A man was traveling and got lost, it was storming so he stopped at a farm. He walked over there and knocked on the door. The farmer answered the door "Whadda you want?" he muttered. The man said "I was wondering if you can let me sleep here for the night". The farmer stared at him and said "Whatever". The man walked into the house and asked "Where can I stay?". The farmer said "You can sleep in my room, I'll sleep on the couch, but before you go to sleep there is one rule. Never go into the basement, and if you do, NEVER touch the creature in there. The key is around my neck, but be warned, I am a very light sleeper". The man nodded and went into the farmer's bedroom. When he got in bed he couldn't sleep because he was so curious what was in the basement. He eventually couldn't take it anymore and went back to the farmer. He was sleeping. And just like he said, there was an old looking key hanging from a string on his neck. The man tiptoed over there and slowly grabbed to key. He carefully pulled the key off the farmer's neck withoutwaking him up, and slowly made his way to the basement. The door was unlocked, but behind it it the room was guarded by a large metal gate. The man got his key and put it in the keyhole. He slowly opened the gate and all of a sudden a big hairy apelike creature started running after him. The man screamed and ran as fast as he could out the front door, he looked back and saw the apelike creature still running after him, he ran towards the lake thinking the creature couldn't swim. as he got to the lake and swam to the middle, he looked back and to his surprise, the creature was swimming towards him. Paralyzed from shock the man just stood there. The creature approached him and when he got within rrange touched the man and the creature stood there and in a frail voice and said... "You're it"

This was in an old book I had, but it was more like this:
A girl goes to spend a summer a her uncles house, and was told to never, ever, go into the attic. Her uncle is a scientist. She hangs around for a month and a couple of weeks, and finally goes into the attic, and a large ape-like creature, like half ape half human, comes after her, touches her, and says, 'Tag, you're it.' The ape creature is revealed to be her cousin after an experiment gone wrong.

Yeah, the music is scary. The fact that this noise could push a strong human mind off the edge of sanity is terrifying. My dad started to play the high pitched sound on the site, but I stopped it before it got far enough >.< Does it say "LEAVE NOW" in clear English or is it text in the soundwaves?

(I mean about the message.)

Here it is....
It's called....

Ready or not, here I come....

[And here it is....] :

The date was the 11th. A Wednesday.
Janet was fourteen years old and had promised to look after her neighbors. An eight year old and a six year old. She had managed to convince her friends to help her babysit. The babysitting took place at night.
The babysitting would start at 8 PM and end somewhere around the time of....Oh, the parents said maybe about the earliest being 11 O'Clock PM and the latest being 2 O'Clock AM.
Lucky for the girls, the babysitting was two nights away, so they got to enjoy themselves for two nights before babysitting two obnoxious, annoying little children.
_____________________________________________________

Janet's friends that were helping babysit, Martha and Carla, came over to her house each night before the babysitting took place. Their night ended with a sigh as they recalled their promises.
All three of the girls slept at Janet's house in her room. They stayed up late savoring the day before their Babysitting Job. They watched scary movies, and when they were all over they chuckled and talked about how fake they were.
Not to mention about how they said that nothing in the dumb movies would ever happen. "Michael Mires, Shmichael Shmires," Martha had chuckled, and they had all laughed about it all night.
Even though it was about 2:30 in the morning, the girls still weren't tired. They discussed some stuff and finally fell asleep around 3 O'Clock.
The 'next' day went by fast. Janet, Martha, and Carla had fun, and then it was finally 8 PM, and time for babysitting.

Readying themselves, the three girls didn't argue when they picked up Alex and Linda, the little boy and girl that their babysitting was forced apon them.
Even though until 10 O'Clock PM they watched TV, the girls were still unhappy because it was little kid's shows.
And worst of all, at 10 PM, when it was completely pitch black outside, Linda and Alex pleaded to go play outdoor hide-and-go seek.
"Dumb kids," Janet had growled. Carla didn't want to go out, being the worrier that she was.
"You two, come on, it'll be fine," Martha had reassured them, and they had listened to her and went outside with the kids.

Or maybe she was wrong, Carla had thought through the whole time. Nextdoor, there was a tiny feild with gigantic woods.
Reluculantly the three girls had no choice but to follow when Linda and Alex insisted on hiding there.

Not wanting to go along with it, Carla was chosen to be the 'seeker' for the game.
Only left by herself, Carla had to wait thirty seconds for Alex, Linda, and her two best friends, Martha and Janet, to hide.
The thirty seconds went by rather slowly for poor Carla, and when they were up, she knew she had to go and find the two children and her two best friends.

"Here I come!" Carla called to alert them, raising her voice, but not too much. Carla was a quiet girl, and it was actually quite a challenge for her to yell....
....Except when she was alone, having fun with Janet and Martha. Then she realized she had forgotten the first part. "Er...."
"....Ready or not!" Carla added with a tiny giggle to herself, so quiet she could barely hear it.
Everything was silent for a few moments. And then there was the tiniest, faintest, most quiet rustle. An accident, it seemed.

It startled Carla a bit, but she ignored her fears and crept towards the noise. "Alex, I knwo your there, and I'm gonna get'cha!" She teased quietly.

Creeping even closer, Carla turned at another sound, though this time it was a whisper. So farmilar....Janet! She decided quickly, almost jumping with excitment, although Carla realized it wasn't for her.
"....Or else I'll smack you outta your shoes! So don't make a noise," Janet was warning someone with a faint chuckle of laughter.
"Make me," Came the reply. No....The replieS. Of Martha, Linda, and....Alex. Carla felt a shiver rampage through her body and her blood turned ice cold. What had make the rustle infront of her?
Even as she was about to scream for help, the scream did come out. But it wasn't only for help. It was in fear and pain as another rustle neared her and the cold, hard, sharp surface of a knife slithered across her throat.
______________________________________________________

The body of Carla was found the next morning after Martha and Janet had fled with Alex and Linda.

Inside the thick cut in Carla's bloody neck was a bloody note.

It read the same message that was writted on this very page.
Though you may not have recignized it.

If you look closely, you'll see that the paragraphs above contain a message.
To discover the message, you must start with the paragraph that begins with these words:
'Janet's friends that were helping babysit, Martha and Carla,' and read from there.
Read each letter starting from the 'J,' AKA the first letter in each line.

If you didn't understand, the message read (With a little extra signature added at the bottom,) :

'Janet, ready or not, here I come.

Signed,
Your buddy Shmichael Shmires.

PS- Have you noticed what day it is?
Friday The Thirteenth, the day you watched my movie. 8') '

Sorry but who asks some kids to babysit on Friday the 13th?
Also if Janet was threatened then why was Carla killed?
Aside from my pickiness, it's a really cool story, and for anyone to be able to do that, is amazing.

Lol thanks. ^^
And it's because they always take away your best friends and family first, xD.
And according to 'Shmichael Shmires,' Janet is next. ^^

And they were adults that asked them to babysit, obviously.
And adults in their around 30's usually don't care about that crap. xD

I may have posted this before.

Subject: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Does anyone remember this kid’s show? It was called Candle Cove and I must have been 6 or 7. I never found reference to it anywhere so I think it was on a local station around 1971 or 1972. I lived in Ironton at the time. I don’t remember which station, but I do remember it was on at a weird time, like 4:00 PM.

it seems really familiar to me…..i grew up outside of ashland and was 9 yrs old in 72. candle cove…was it about pirates? i remember a pirate marionete at the mouth of a cave talking to a little girl
Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
YES! Okay I’m not crazy! I remember Pirate Percy. I was always kind of scared of him. He looked like he was built from parts of other dolls, real low-budget. His head was an old porcelain baby doll, looked like an antique that didn’t belong on the body. I don’t remember what station this was! I don’t think it was WTSF though.

Sorry to ressurect this old thread but I know exactly what show you mean, Skyshale. I think Candle Cove ran for only a couple months in ‘71, not ‘72. I was 12 and I watched it a few times with my brother. It was channel 58, whatever station that was. My mom would let me switch to it after the news. Let me see what I remember.
It took place in Candle cove, and it was about a little girl who imagined herself to be friends with pirates. The pirate ship was called the Laughingstock, and Pirate Percy wasn’t a very good pirate because he got scared too easily. And there was calliope music constantly playing. Don’t remember the girl’s name. Janice or Jade or something. Think it was Janice.
Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Thank you Jaren!!! Memories flooded back when you mentioned the Laughingstock and channel 58. I remember the bow of the ship was a wooden smiling face, with the lower jaw submerged. It looked like it was swallowing the sea and it had that awful Ed Wynn voice and laugh. I especially remember how jarring it was when they switched from the wooden/plastic model, to the foam puppet version of the head that talked.

Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
ha ha i remember now too. do you remember this part skyshale: “you have…to go…INSIDE.”
Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Ugh mike, I got a chill reading that. Yes I remember. That’s what the ship always told Percy when there was a spooky place he had to go in, like a cave or a dark room where the treasure was. And the camera would push in on Laughingstock’s face with each pause. YOU HAVE… TO GO… INSIDE. With his two eyes askew and that flopping foam jaw and the fishing line that opened and closed it. Ugh. It just looked so cheap and awful.
You guys remember the villain? He had a face that was just a handlebar mustache above really tall, narrow teeth.
kevin_hart
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
i honestly, honestly thought the villain was pirate percy. i was about 5 when this show was on. nightmare fuel.
Jaren_2005
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
That wasn’t the villain, the puppet with the mustache. That was the villain’s sidekick, Horace Horrible. He had a monocle too, but it was on top of the mustache. I used to think that meant he had only one eye.
But yeah, the villain was another marionette. The Skin-Taker. I can’t believe what they let us watch back then.
kevin_hart
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
jesus h. christ, the skin taker. what kind of a kids show were we watching? i seriously could not look at the screen when the skin taker showed up. he just descended out of nowhere on his strings, just a dirty skeleton wearing that brown top hat and cape. and his glass eyes that were too big for his skull. christ almighty.
Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Wasn’t his top hat and cloak all sewn up crazily? Was that supposed to be children’s skin??
mike_painter65
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
yeah i think so. rememer his mouth didn’t open and close, his jaw just slid back and foth. i remember the little girl said “why does your mouth move like that” and the skin-taker didn’t look at the girl but at the camera and said “TO GRIND YOUR SKIN”
Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
I’m so relieved that other people remember this terrible show!
I used to have this awful memory, a bad dream I had where the opening jingle ended, the show faded in from black, and all the characters were there, but the camera was just cutting to each of their faces, and they were just screaming, and the puppets and marionettes were flailing spastically, and just all screaming, screaming. The girl was just moaning and crying like she had been through hours of this. I woke up many times from that nightmare. I used to wet the bed when I had it.
kevin_hart
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
i don’t think that was a dream. i remember that. i remember that was an episode.
Skyshale033
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
No no no, not possible. There was no plot or anything, I mean literally just standing in place crying and screaming for the whole show.
kevin_hart
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
maybe i’m manufacturing the memory because you said that, but i swear to god i remember seeing what you described. they just screamed.
Jaren_2005
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
Oh God. Yes. The little girl, Janice, I remember seeing her shake. And the Skin-Taker screaming through his gnashing teeth, his jaw careening so wildly I thought it would come off its wire hinges. I turned it off and it was the last time I watched. I ran to tell my brother and we didn’t have the courage to turn it back on.
mike_painter65
Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid’s show?
i visited my mom today at the nursing home. i asked her about when i was littel in the early 70s, when i was 8 or 9 and if she remebered a kid’s show, candle cove. she said she was suprised i could remember that and i asked why, and she said “because i used to think it was so strange that you said ‘i’m gona go watch candle cove now mom’ and then you would tune the tv to static and juts watch dead air for 30 minutes. you had a big imagination with your little pirate show."
