Chapter 2-Home
Ice stood up and swept down the ladder. I watched, feeling sort of stunned. He went to Badger and spoke quickly to him. Badger nodded and went over to get Flyby. Grasswhistle and Rosethorn smoothly leapt onto the first floor and told everyone the news. Were we evacuating? What the heck? Just on the slim chance we were going to get found out? I watched as Dagger filed out, yanking Coon along behind him.
Snapping out of it, I examined Break, hoping he'd get back to the mood he was in just recently, no matter how malicious and creepy. He stirred briefly, and sat up, hugging his knees to his chest. I felt a throb of sadness. He probably had a personality, a life before his incident. But now he was a broken shell of a person.
I coaxed him into standing up before Badger appeared, Flyby sitting contentedly in his arms.
"I can get him," He said, gesturing that I take Flyby. Gratefully I put my arms around the toddler and left Badger to take care of Break.
I climbed down the ladder with one hand (which is not easy with a toddler in the other arm, by the way). Laurels stood, waiting at the bottom.
"Do you need something?" I asked.
"Nah. I'm just waiting for Break," She said, narrowing her eyes and looking up behind me. Glancing back around, I see Badger's having better luck trying to get Break to move.
I hurry out the door to find Ice, to see and ask if this is really necessary. Everyone besides Badger, Break, Laurels, and of course, me and Flyby, is sitting around the firepit, listening to Ice speak quickly and urgently.
