Roll says... 1: Accept the challenge.
"Alright," you say, with a bold grin. "I'll do it."
Applefoot hops up onto a rock that's halfway in the water, stretching out in the sun. "You get six tries. It doesn't have to be in a row, nor does size matter, just so long as it's a fish. You have to make sure that you're stealthy enough that the other fish will stick around, even after you get one. If they all swim away, you lose automatically."
"What happens if I lose?" you ask.
Applefoot gives you a little smirk. "Then you have to go right back to Divercloud and ask him to finish giving you his speech without eating lunch first."
Well, now you have to win. But you know that you can't be careless about this. you note as you sneak up to the water. The minnows aren't very big, and as far as you know, fish are pretty stupid, so maybe you can get away with this one. Still, cautiousness is the most important aspect here. You inch along the shore, careful to keep your shadow away from the water, watching the little fish swim around.
You notice that they tend to swim along the little grass under water, as if they're seeking shelter. Some of them are a little slower than others, but they all stay tightly knit together. It's going to be hard to grab one by itself.
After about half a minute, two of them stray away from their friends to go pick at a particularly vigorous grain of sand. One of them is bigger, about an inch and a half long, and the other is half that size. The bigger one may struggle harder and call attention to the other fish, but you can at least eat that as a snack (and you're sure that Applefoot wouldn't tattle). The little one won't struggle as hard and may not be missed by the other fish, but you would have to toss it back in because it's too little to serve any use to you.
Catch the big fish.
Catch the little fish.
