Ok...I haven't heard it for a very long time, so it may seem a bit weird at first. Ahem. I shall start. Actually, now that I think about it, it isn't very scary....I was...8 when I heard this story, so I guess it seemed scarier then.
Madness of the Fever
---1986
There was once a young girl named Emma, who lived on a farm with her parents. Then, during a long summer, both of her parents died from a strange fever. Since Emma was an only child, her Aunts Anna and Sandy came to care for her. Sandy was a sweet woman who loved Emma, and was very beautiful. But Anna, her older sister, was ugly and fat and was jealous of Sandy's and Emma's beautiful looks.
One day, she asked her sister and Emma to walk with her in the woods. Sandy, being a wonderful sister, agreed. Emma knew Anna wanted to kill her and Sandy, but she still went. When they reached the woods, Emma let herself fall behind until she could no longer see her two Aunts. She quickly ran back home, and waited for them to return.
Sandy and Anna soon returned. Sandy, who had been worried sick, asked where Emma had gone. Emma told them she had gotten afraid and had ran back home. Sandy believed her, but complained of feeling feverish and went to bed. Anna cooked them super, then went to check on Sandy. Three days later, Sandy was dead. The strange illness that had killed Emma's parents had killed Sandy too. Emma, still knowing Anna wanted to kill her, ran away and lived in the blacksmith's barn. The blacksmith loved Emma, and he kept her hidden so Anna couldn't find her.
Then, after several days of the blacksmith bringing her food, he didn't come. Emma thought there was a logical explanation. She sat for three weeks, waiting for him to come. He never returned.
Emma, driven by madness of hunger, ran home to Anna. She went there only to find Anna married, thinking Emma had died. Emma, angry and suffering from fever, killed both Anna and her husband. Then, after she had eaten and calmed herself, she went looking for the blacksmith. It turned out he had died from fever. The illness everyone Emma had known had died from.
Emma went around her home village, and soon everyone had died from the strange fever. Alone on her barren landscape, Emma went into madness from the fever she knew she could never die from. She went into the forest and never came out.
Unknown to her, Emma had an older brother. When he heard all of his village had died, he returned to get Emma. He went to the village, only to find her gone. He searched the woods for her, but never found pretty little Emma. Now, the forest near the village echoed with the last cries of Emma, tortured by her fever soul.
Family legend says that if you ever go camping in any woods anywhere, always bring a non-family member. Or you could catch the fever, which has no cure and no name.

The brother's name was Alexander. Alexander is my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather. True story. About 14 years ago my two cousins went camping in the woods up in Washington. My older cousin brought my other cousin to the hospital after 3 days because he had "the fever". Three weeks later, my cousin died.
I'll tell the rest of my stories later, ok?
If you only face forward, there is something you will miss seeing.
