In the gym, Mr Davis made us all stand by the wall. He looked at us all, his eyes shifting from left to right as if he could see our sport talent by staring at us. Then when he came to me, his pupils enlarged and he opened his mouth, his beard twitching on top of his chin. "SPORTSWEAR!"
I rolled my eyes. "What about it Davis?"
"It is SIR to you! And as for your clothes, they are not... correct! Hoodies are not allowed! Trousers are to be worn properly!"
"It says in the rule book, SIR, that protection of the arms is allowed to keep my body warm. And it doesn't say anything about turning pants- I mean trousers into shorts."
Sir went red in the face as he turned around, and fetched a basketball. "Ahem. You're new in my P.E group, aren't you? Well, you pick a team. Let's see how good you are at basketball, eh?"
I caught the ball and stood in the middle of the hall. Looking around, I guessed who were the sporty people in the class. I shouted Ellie over, then Jess, then Lily and finally Amy. We stretched blue bibs over our chests and marched over to the left, a basket hoop above us. The rest of our small P.E group shuffled over to the other side in green bibs, and I cracked my knuckle, waiting for the whistle.
It blew, and the game began.
