Roll says... 5: Stay outside.
"Sorry, Charlie." You stand your ground and stare up at her determinedly. "I appreciate the offer, but I've got too many reasons to not go in there."
Willpower +1.
Charlie looks down at you silently. As the cover opens up, she says, "Alright. Stick around outside, then, and I'll meet you in the morning. The alleys on either end of this house are safe. Maybe not that clean, but safe."
"And alleys are..."
"Those little straightaways between buildings." She nods to her left and right. You peer into one of the gaps curiously.
The twoleg who opened the den cover makes some high pitched, kit-like noises. Charlie turns around and purrs as loudly as possible while giving you a quick bat with her tail. You immediately scramble for the closest 'alley', which happens to be the one on the right. As you run off, you hear Charlie call to you, "And don't chew on your stitches!"
The darkness is a little daunting in this strange place, but you walk with confidence down to the very end of the alley. It's colder than you expected, and a little damp. There's several ledges and tall, round rocks with flat tops that are covered in something soft. You try to jump up and examine them more closely, but with only one back leg, you lack the power, and are forced to sit on the cold, hard ground, assessing your situation.
Okay, so you're who knows how far away from home, in a completely unfamiliar location, you're missing a leg, there's no water or prey to be found out here, and currently your only hope is a heavily-scarred kittypet the size of a badger who just left you by yourself until the morning. You can work with that. Maybe. Possibly.
You slump against a cold rock. You're beginning to feel the weight of everything. This thought makes you look at your new stump.
Notail, before she died, would often talk about how she could sometimes feel her tail again, moons after she lost it, and be startled whenever she couldn't climb a tree like she used to, or just try to puff it up, only to discover that she couldn't, because it was gone. It took her a long time to start remembering on her own that her tail wasn't there anymore.
Well, you can feel your stump, alright. The pink skin seems white in the dimness of the alley, taunting you with those stark black lines. They itch like crazy, and they hurt a lot, but you remember what Charlie said, and you simply glare at it, hoping to fix it with eye power.
The sounds of this place never quite die down, and as you listen, you feel exhaustion creeping over you. You usually don't sleep during the night - that's not your way - but you could go for a nap right now. Still, you think, as you look down the alley, this is a new place. Even Charlie can't be right 100% of the time.
Get some sleep.
Wait until morning.
