"Don't touch her!"
Fabian bit his lower lip and got up. Tears rolled off his chin as he screamed, "You!" Sabastian readied himself for fist but it never came. He lowered his hands to catch Fabian stalking off.
Turning to Drew, he muttered, "Maybe you should, uh..."
Drew woke from her dreamland. "Right." Her footsteps echoed on the dirt floor of the barn as she caught up with Fabian. "Hey."
His darted to her. "Back to taunt me?"
"No, I, uh, just wanted to tell yo-"
"That you don't want to be friends? That you want to make "goo-goo" eyes at pretty boy? That you hate me?" He paused to sniffle and wipe his nose. "'Cause, I want you to know..." Lurking behind his teeth, Fabian's tongue dared to venture to Drew. He began to lean in but caught himself. "...love you..."
Drew stared into Fabian's eyes. She watched tears brim over and sighed. "I know, Fabian. But," Her eyes drifted to Sabastian who was leaning against the stall door, looking into the light.
"Yeah, you love pretty boy." He glared into the dirt. "Well," He raised his hands and showed her his middle finger. "Get this!" Something was thrown at Drew's feet. She watched Fabian leave before she picked it up. As she unfolded it, her breath caught in her throat.
She read to herself,
I watch a dove fly to its nest
Little birds squealing for food
You are the dove
I am the bird
The food is our love.
I need you
Like I need air
But without it
I disappear
Into dust.
Don't leave me
That dove
My dove
Will always be
Forever
In my heart.
It was a love poem. From Fabian. Drew realized how heart broken he must be. She fell to the ground, her head in her hands and cried. Fabian loved her. He loved her. Not a crush. Not because he thought she was "sexy". But because it was true love. Sabastian heard the muffled crying and walked over.
"Hey, what's wrong?" He frowned.
"Sabastian, what are we doing?"
He looked at her, confused.
"We just met and,"
"We're going too fast."
They're eyes met and Drew sighed. "I-I just can't do this any longer. I'm not ready." Sabastian nodded. He scribbled something down and handed it to her.
"That's my number. Call me if you ever wann-"
"Thanks."
Sabastian nodded and ran a hand through his hair. "I guess I'll, uh...see you around."
"Bye."
