Stretching in his nest, Droserathorn opened his jaws in a wide yawn. His eyes slowly opened, adjusting to the dim light of his nest room. The tom’s ears picked up chatter from outside the stone walls. It grew closer, and he soon realized that the noise was coming in his direction. He groaned in annoyance at the thought of having visitors so early, but he still rose to his paws and worked out the stiffness in his hind leg. The shaman now identified one of the voices as Riversnap. A small smile flickered at the end of his mouth. He enjoyed seeing the she-cat around, but he didn’t know if she felt the same, so he made sure he gave her space. His assumption was right, as the she-cat entered the shaman’s den with two other she-cats trailing behind her. Riversnap seemed to be conversing with the brown cat, while the white one stayed rather silent, a consistent small smile her only sign of emotion. “Good morning,” Droserathorn sighed “How can I help you?” His question wasn’t sarcastic, just smothered in exhaustion. “This is Antlerpool and Snowdrift. We found them on the dawn patrol this morning. They’re looking for a home.” The tom nodded and blinked roughly, clearing his eyes of the sleep. “Neither of you are pregnant are you?” He asked monotone. “Droserathorn!” Riversnap huffed, flicking him with her tail then, turning to her companions, added “I’m so sorry. He forgets his manners sometimes.” Her mew was pointed, raising a bit of agitation in Droserathorn’s chest. He shoved it down. He had made a promise to himself that he wouldn’t be the instigator of any conflict anymore. “Sorry.” He meowed, heaving a deep sigh “I’m just tired. Our nursery already has two residents and I don’t have the supplies at the moment to take on another queen.” The brown cat, Antlerpool, gave a chuckle. “It’s alright, Droserathorn!” She meowed kindly “I know what it’s like to be sleep deprived.” The ginger tom flashed her a smile and stood up taller. “So, what is it you need from me? Are you feelin’ sick?” he asked, shaman skills kicking in. Antlerpool shook her head. “No.” She answered “But I figured you might want to check us just in case.” The shaman nodded. “Sure thing.” He meowed “What about you, Snowdrift? Are you feelin’ alright?” Snowdrift swallowed and looked to her friend. “She doesn’t talk.” Antlerpool explained “I think she’s mute.” Droserathorn tilted his head in interest. He had never met a mute cat before. The white she-cat shook her head, though, communicating that she felt fine.” Droserathorn sat and itched a spot behind his ear. “Okay, then. If you want, you can spend the day here while they build your nests. I can check you for ticks or anythin’ nasty like that, but I can tell you now, you look healthy.” He reported. The two she-cats looked at each other and shared a nod. “That would be great. Thank you, Droserathorn.” Antlerpool purred, dipping her head respectfully. He nodded back and got up, leading them into the nesting room.

Antlerpool and Snowdrift were cleared for the Clan, and were now being shown around the territory. The camp was quiet, the perfect ambiance for Droserathorn to sort his herbs he had collected. That is, until a piercing cry shot through the air. The shaman grimaced, instantly recognizing the call of the crow. He slowly turned his head up, begrudgingly making eye contact with the crow, who was peeking through the hole in the roof. “Great.” he muttered “Okay, fine, gimme a moment.” The crow cawed and flapped away from his perch. Droserathorn sighed and closed his eyes for a moment before taking a deep breath and exiting into the camp. He slithered along the side of the building, staying in the shade and making his way over to the headstone the black bird was sitting gracefully on. But before he could follow the bird, a small tap on his rump made him whirl around in surprise and fear shoot up his spine. Wrenpetal was there, silently watching him. “Sorry for startling you,” She murmured sheepishly “But are you going out of camp?” Droserathorn’s heart was still racing from the scare, but he forced himself to remain cool. He flicked his ear and blinked at the queen. “Yes, I am. Did you need something?” His eyes skimmed across the queen, checking quickly for signs something could be wrong. She shuffled her feet. “W-Well, kinda.” She whispered “See, the kits are asleep. And everyone else is showing Antlerpool and Snowdrift around, or hunting, or patrolling, or whatever. But Marsh doesn’t have anything to do. I don’t think he should be cooped up in camp for this many moons. So, could you maybe take him out for a while? Have him stretch his legs.” The shaman inwardly cringed at the thought of having to drag the elder to the cave. Wrenpetal caught on to this, and gave him a sweet smile. “I’m sure it will be fine!” She purred “Besides, I know nothing bad will happen with you there, since you’re such a strong tom.” Droserathorn narrowed his eyes in doubt. He was definitely not a ‘strong tom’. He was lithe and tall, with little visible muscle. But he got the message and the gentle gleam in the queen’s eyes was hard to deny. So, with a groan, he begrudgingly accepted. He waited as Wrenpetal led Marsh over to him, and the two set off with the crow leading them.
Droserathorn wrinkled his nose, trying to block out the noise of Marsh’s story. They were almost to the cavern, but the entire journey had been filled with the elder’s tale of a skirmish with a fox. It wasn’t a bad story, in fact the shaman found it quite interesting. However, the thing that made him want to thwack Marsh with his tail, was the fact that he was retelling the story to the crow. “Then, I pounced on the beast’s back! It was crazy! It was howlin’ and barkin’ and tryin’ to throw me off. But I was able to cling on. I have long claws, ya see, which get tangled in fur whether I want ‘em to or not.” The bird gave an interested squak, obviously understanding and enjoying the entertainment. Droserathorn rolled his eyes. “Of course the two bird-brains would get along.” He muttered under his breath. Thankfully, they reached the mouth of the tunnel soon, and Marsh finished his story. The shaman stepped close to the entrance and looked at his companion. “Stay close to me, okay?” He ordered “Don’t wander off into any side tunnels. Hold on to my tail if you have to, but there’s no way I’m losing track of you.” Marsh smiled and nodded. “Sure thing, son. Lead the way!” Droserathorn closed his eyes for a heartbeat and sighed, turning to the tunnel and following the bird inside.
When the shaman opened his eyes, he was thankful to see he was alone in the starry forest. He didn’t think Marsh would have followed him, but it was good to know this conversation would be private. It wasn’t long before a familiar black pelt weaves through the towering tree trunks. “Greetings, Droserathorn.” The guardian meowed. “Aita.” He dipped his head respectfully “I assume you have a reason for this visit. I didn’t call Voire. Did I?” He flicked an ear at the crow, who was perched on a low branch above Aita. He shook his head. “No, no I sent her.” He confirmed “I’ve been sensing some stress in you, Droserathorn. You’ve been thinking about a lot of things, lots of questions. I figured you’d might want to ask me some, considering I’m an all-knowing deity and all.” The guardian flashed the cat a warm smile, but Droserathorn just blinked in confusion. “Questions?” He echoed “I’m not sure I understand. My minds been pretty clear these past few moons. Not much has been going on besides caring for the Clan’s health.” Aita tilted his head. “Not all thoughts are in your head, my friend.” He meowed “Sometimes our deepest questions lie in our hearts. For example, you know deep down that you won’t always be RavenClan’s shaman. One day you’ll join me here.” He waved his tail to gesture to the forest. Now that he mentioned it, Droserathorn realized he had been thinking about the distant future. He saw Cypresspaw and Spikepaw, as well as the two kits born. They were the future of the clan. “You want to know who will carry on your legacy.” Aita finished. The cat nodded slowly. “Well, I can answer that!” The black tom revealed “Not everyone can speak with me like we are, Droserathorn. You have a special gift. One that I gave you, yes, but one that not everyone is able to possess. This gift needs to be passed on, obviously, to the next shaman. I can’t help your Clan if I can’t communicate with you.” The shaman tilted his head. “How does it pass down? Is there a special ritual or something?” Aita smirked. “Not quite. It’s actually pretty simple.” He explained “The gift is like a gene. It’s passed on from generation to generation. That means that one of your kin will be your successor. One cat of your direct bloodline. It can be one of your kits, or the kit of your sibling. Either way, it’s a family thing. I sense strength in you, and I know your descendants will carry that same strength.” Droserathorn nodded. “That makes sense.” He murmured “But how will I know who it is?” Aita smirked widened. “You’ll know, don’t worry. There will be signs. Plus, it’ll be in their nature to want to become a shaman. I’ll be guiding them along from the moment they’re born.” The shaman flicked an ear, but noticed that his surroundings were starting to fade. “Has it been all night already?” The tom gasped. “Time works differently up here.” The guardian meowed nonchalantly. He started to turn, but stopped half way. “Oh, and Droserathorn, there was one more question that’s been radiating off of you. The question you’ve been thinking about non stop.” He added “And the answer is yes.” With that, he left the mortal cat, merging with the shadows and disappearing with the rest of the forest as Droserathorn woke up.
The ginger tom started as he woke, panting wide-eyed. He swung his head around, slowly realizing and remembering where he was. He sighed and swallowed, dipping his head and letting the calm trickle of water soothe him. “You alrigh’, son?” Marsh asked, walking up to him. He settled beside the tom, examining him with worried eyes. “I’m fine.” He grumbled. He wanted his limbs to get up, but he didn’t have the energy or will to do it. “No yer not.” Marsh sighed “You take care of everybody, but who takes care of you?” Droserathorn shot Marsh a look, but didn’t say anything. “I know you’re tired, son. You don’t have to pretend.” Marsh scooted closer to his companion “When was the last time you checked yourself for ticks? Well, obviously not recently. You look like you got spit out by a tornado.” The shaman huffed, and flinched away from him as the elder started paying through his fur. Eventually, though, he accepted his exhaustion and let Marsh work through his knotted pelt. “Hey, Marsh?” the shaman yawned, eyes closed. Marsh hummed in acknowledgement. “I’m sorry.” He sighed “I’m sorry for constantly snapping at you. I know I can be a bit rough, but you’ve been such a great friend to Wrenpetal and you’re great with the kits. You don’t deserve being scolded by a hot-headed bee-brain like me.” Even though his eyes were closed, he could feel Marsh smiling. “Don’t you worry about it Droserathorn. You’re definitely not the nastiest cat I’ve met. I know you don’t mean to be mean, and I forgive you.” Droserathorn leaned against the tom and his eyelids grew heavier. Before he knew it, the shaman had drifted off into sleep, feeling safe and, for the first time in moons, peaceful.

The sun beat down on Weaselstar as he jumped onto a headstone overlooking the main square of camp. “Let all cats of age gather before me!” He yowled as he sat down. Cats emerged from their dens and eventually, all of RavenClan was seated looking up at him. Wrenpetal watched from the edge of the camp, Marsh beside her. She decided to stay next to the nursery to watch over her sleeping kits. “Today’s meeting has a very exciting purpose!” Weaselstar purred “Cypresspaw has been training hard. He was the Clan’s first apprentice and has been working over the past moons with Kitewhisker, good job both of you! Last moon, he took and passed his final assessment. Today is the day that we honor him and recognize him as a full warrior as RavenClan. Cypresspaw, please step forward.” The apprentice rose to his paws. He looked back at Spikepaw, who gave him an encouraging nod, and walked forward. It was evident that he was trying to look reverent and respectful, but his eyes portrayed his excitement and pride. The young tom reached the headstone and looked up at his leader. “You have spent your apprenticeship learning skills and codes that will benefit the Clan. Do you, Cypresspaw, promise to uphold all that has been taught to you?” Weaselstar boomed. Then, after seeing the tom’s confused look, whispered “Say ‘I do’.” with a smile. Cypresspaw clenched his jaw and stood tall. “I do.” He stated firmly. “Do you promise to protect your Clan? To stay loyal through the good times and the bad, and to give everything you have for it?” The leader continued. “I do.” The apprentice repeated. “Then, by the power of the Guardian, I am honored to give you your warrior name. From this moment on, you will be known as Cypresstail. May you continue to be a strong and true warrior!” Weaselstar finished his ceremony, leaping down and touching noses with the new warrior of RavenClan. Cypresstail turned to face the gathering, beaming with pride and joy. “Cypresstail! Cypresstail!” The clan cried, filling the skies with their encouragement and excitement.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Lionkit and Marshkit skidded out of the nursery. They were rejuvenated by their midday nap and fully energized, ready to explore the camp. They had only been out of the nursery for a moon, but they already had quite the reputation. Owlgaze tucked her meal closer to her to prevent the kits from tripping as they haphazardly sprinted across camp. Once they zoomed past her, she and Skinknose exchanged loving giggles and shakings of their heads. They were dashing towards the elder’s den, a small, but cozy tree stump in between the warriors and apprentice’s den. Lionkit burst ahead of his sister and skidded to a halt beside the tree stump. “Beat you!” He gasped breathlessly. “Only because you had a head start!” Marshkit protested, having more energy than her tired brother. “Did not!” Lionkit meowed indignantly. “Did too!” She shot back, raising her voice. Luckily, a large, fluffy tom peeped his head out from the stumpy elder’s den. “What’s goin’ on out here?” Marsh grumbled, looking down at the kits “Now what did I tell you lil’ ones ‘bout tormentin’ each other?” The pair looked down, ashamed. “Not to.” Lionkit mumbled. “Then why are ya arguin’? You’re siblings, you should love each other, not go fer each other’s throats.” Marshkit shuffled her feet. “Sorry, Marsh.” She whimpered. The elder’s stern face turned back into his usual cheery smile. “Now don’t get sad,” He purred, nuzzling the two “Jus’ don’t be arguin’. I’m jus’ makin’ sure y’all are the best cats you can be, that’s all.” He stood up and motioned for the pair to go into the den. “It’s time fer yer daily story.” He reminded them “What will it be today?” The kits returned to their bubbly, energetic selves as they bounded into the stump. They spewed out ideas. “What about the fox story?” Marshkit suggested. “He told that story a few days ago.” Lionkit groaned. “Well, I want to hear it again!” Marshkit meowed. The two’s suggestions dimmed as they walked into the den, followed by Marsh, who was shaking his head and rolling his eyes while chuckling. He loved these kits to death, but they could certainly pester each other to no end.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
“Weaselstar!” Agaricthroat called. The leader looked up from his lounging spot beneath the willow that stretched from the middle of camp. He saw his patrol surrounding a very wary-looking stranger. Weaselstar got to his paws and padded lightly over to the group, wearing one of his signature smiles. “Hello.” He greeted, making eye contact with the cat “Who might you be?” Agaricthroat stepped aside to allow the cat to walk forward. “We found him on patrol.” The warrior whispered to his leader “I don’t think he knows where he is.” The golden tom took a shaky step forward. “U-Um. My name is Haypelt.” He murmured, eyes flicking across the camp “Is she here?” Weaselstar tilted his head in confusion. “Who? Is who here?” He pressed, but the tom just shook his head, eyes growing large and watery. He took a step back as he started to ramble. “S-She said she would be here.” He whispered “Why isn’t she here?” He started to panic, taking deep breaths and looking around furiously. “She...She can’t be gone. She told me she would be okay. Those cursed lizards! I knew she shouldn’t have fought them alone!” He sat down and started to hyperventilate. Agaricthroat and Weaselstar exchanged a look of pity and confusion. The leader hurried to the tom’s side. “You must be exhausted.” He soothed, licking the tom’s forehead “Why don’t we go see our shaman. He’ll help you calm down.” Haypelt nodded, clearly dazed, and stumbled along side the leader to Droserathorn’s den. The cats on patrol were left to gaze at each other and theorize what trauma Haypelt had sustained.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Kitewhisker enjoyed patrolling the north border. The tall trees, chirping birds and pine scent made her able to relax. That is, until she heard major rustling coming from a line of hedges. The deputy immediately stopped, raising her tail to halt the rest of the patrol. Suddenly, a white figure emerged from the shrubs. The she-cat stood tall, a fierce look in her clear green eyes. Kitewhisker matched her look, widening her stance and keeping her ears alert. “Who are you?” The deputy asked sternly “Are you aware that you’re trespassing on RavenClan territory?” As soon as the clan name left Kitewhisker’s lips, the she-cat seemed to relax, and the rigidness in her eyes melted instantly. “RavenClan?” She gasped “Oh thank StarClan! I’m not sure what I would do if you were a band of rogues! I’m not very battle-inclined.” Kitewhisker looked back at Antlerpool, who just shrugged, just as confused as the deputy. “S-Sorry, were we supposed to be expecting you?” She asked, then realization hit her “Oh, do you know Haypelt?” The white cat tilted her head, thinking. “No, I don’t think so, sorry.” She shook her head “My name is Lynxshine. And a bird led us here.” With her words, a caw echoed through the trees. A black bird flapped overhead, carrying the wind with her. “Voire?” Kitewhisker gasped. A breeze whisked around the patrol. A scent filled Kitewhisker’s nostrils. She tried to figure out what it was from, but she couldn’t place it. “That smells like Marsh.” Cypresstail realized. “Marsh?” Lynxshine meowed, eyes widening “You do have him! That’s why we’re here, to take him back to TwistedClan!” Antlerpool blinked. “We?” She echoed the she-cat’s words. The TwistedClan cat nodded and looked over her shoulder. “Come on out guys, it’s safe.” She called into the bushes. At her invitation, four head slowly appeared from behind a bush. Kitewhisker raised her eyebrows at the group. Cypresstail took a step forward. “Fogpaw? Mistpaw?” He asked, squinting. The two apprentices blushed. “Cypresspaw?” They said in unison. “Cypresstail, now.” He corrected “I...I can’t believe you’re here.” They were quick to leave their hiding spot, prancing over to the tom and settling close to him. “We’re here to rescue Marsh!” Fogpaw announced. “Not that he needs rescuing, but we miss him back home!” Mistpaw added. Cypresstail nodded with raised brows. He looked to Kitewhisker for help, but she shook her head and smiled, seeming to say, ’There is no way in the guardian’s reign I’m helping you’. Mistpaw and Fogpaw looked up at Cypresstail with wide, excited eyes. “I’m so happy we got to see you again!” Mistpaw purred. “Yea, you left so suddenly at the gathering.” Fogpaw agreed. The young warrior shrugged, not sure what to say. “I-I mean, Weaselstar didn’t want to get home too late.” He lied. The sisters looked at each other, seemingly satisfied with his answers. Snowdrift tilted her head at Ashpaw. The white warrior sniffed her, trying to uncover what she smelled. Ashpaw tilted her head back. “You know, you look really familiar.” The apprentice thought out loud “You must have a really generic face.” Snowdrift blinked in surprise She pouted and furrowed her brow, lashing her tail as she left the cat for Antlerpool. She picked up her and Kitewhisker’s conversation with Lynxshine. “This is Frostpaw. He’s our medicine cat apprentice.” She explained. The deputy dipped her head. “Hello Frostpaw.” She purred “You must’ve met our shaman at the gathering. Droserathorn.” The apprentice flicked an ear and pushed past the she-cats, walking further down the path. Voire was sitting on a pine branch a little ways ahead and he was clearly still more interested in following it that any conversation. “Don’t mind him.” Lynxshine sighed “He’s had it rough lately.” Kitewhisker nodded. “I understand.” She meowed “Well, let’s get you back to camp. I’m sure Weaselstar will be excited to hear from you again.” She turned before Lynxshine’s cheeks turned rosy at the mention of the leader. The deputy led the cats towards the RavenClan camp.
Weaselstar nearly choked on his dinner when he saw the TwistedClan cats. It was starting to get dark, but he would recognize that beautiful white pelt anywhere. “Lynxshine.” He croaked, clearing his throat “I-It’s great to see you again.” She nodded. “Yea it is.” She purred “Um, we’re here because of-” She was cut off by a gasp. “Lynxshine? Ashpaw? What...What are you lot doin’ all the way out here?” Lynxshine brushed past Weaselstar to approach Marsh, leaving the leader to frown in the dark. “Thank StarClan you’re okay!” She gushed, examining the elder. Ashpaw dashed behind her, nuzzling Marsh. “This is where you’ve been all this time? We’ve missed you, Marsh!” She meowed, hurt flashing in her eyes. The elder looked down in shame. “I’m sorry if I’ve caused any trouble, I just wanted to explore, an’ then these real nice cats allowed me to stay.” He explained. Then, Lionkit and Marshkit bounced out of his den, looking sleepy but content. They saw the strangers and instantly hid behind Marsh’s hind legs. “Who are these cats?” Marshkit whispered to him. “Are they intruders?” Lionkit asked in a hushed voice. “No.” Marsh chuckled “They’re from my Clan. They’re jus’ here for a visit.” Ashpaw blinked up in awe. “N-No, we’re here to take you home!” She meowed firmly. Lionkit looked up wide eyed at his father figure. “Y-you’re leaving us?” He mewed, a pitiful and tearful look in his eyes “You promised you would stay for our apprentice ceremony.” Marsh nodded. “Don’t worry, lil’ one, I’ll be here when you’re apprenticed, I’ll make sure of it.” Ashpaw lashed her tail. “You can’t stay here!” She cried. Lynxshine tried to nudge her away from Marsh, but the apprentice glared at her. “You have to come home with us right now!” Marsh was about to retort, but Weaselstar intervened. “It’s getting late. Why don’t we discuss this tomorrow.” He meowed calmly, but firmly “Kitewhisker will show you to the apprentice and warrior dens. We’ll get some nest set up for you.” Lynxshine gave a grateful nod. “Wonderful idea. Come on, Ashpaw. I know you’re tired.” The apprentice reluctantly left Marsh and followed Cypresstail and the sisters to the apprentice’s building. Weaselstar flashed Lynxshine a goodnight smile as Kitewhisker led her away. Frostpaw wlaked up to the leader. “I heard Droserathorn is here.” He meowed tiredly “Where is he?” Weaselstar turned and nodded to the shaman’s den. “Uh, he’s over there. Here I’ll drop you off.”
Droserathorn was about to curl up in his nest when he heard someone clear their throat. He turned to see a familiar face. “Frostpaw?” He meowed, somewhat interested “How interesting.” Weaselstar said goodnight to the pair. Frostpaw entered the den with caution, taking in his surroundings. “Why are you here? I thought you found me annoying.” The shaman asked, whiskers twitching. “I do, or I used to. But it was one exchange at a gathering that neither of us wanted to be at.” He murmured “Technically, I’m here on a patrol to retrieve Marsh. But I’ve been having these dreams.” He added. “Lots of cats have dreams.” Droserathorn murmured, turning to head to his nest. He was really not in the mood for a conversation. It had taken a long time to calm Haypely down and now he just wanted to sleep. “Not like these.” Frostpaw persisted “I...I don’t have a mentor. So StarClan teaches me my skills. Over the past several moons I’ve been having this constant, nagging crow trying to tell me something. It kept trying to lead me to you.” This caught the shaman’s attention. “Nagging bird, you say? Sounds a lot like Voire.” He meowed “What was she telling you?” Frostpaw shifted his weight, unsure of himself. “Oh, come on. You’ve come all this way, you have to tell me now.” He pressed gently. “I think she wants me to learn from you. For you to mentor me in my remaining skills.” He whispered “StarClan cats can’t teach me everything. I think...I think we’re connected in some way. Like you are meant to train me.” Droserathorn clenched his jaw and swallowed. After a while, he nodded slowly. “Okay.” He sighed. “Okay? That’s it?” Frostpaw meowed. “Well what do you want me to say? ’Oh, Frostpaw I’ve been waiting for you! The peevish bird has been speaking to me too’?” The shaman chuckled. “That does sound like something I’ve heard, though. We’ll discuss the details in the morning, but I suppose I’ll indulge the bird.” He jerked his head to his nest room. “There’s an extra nest in there. Make yourself comfortable.” He invited. Frostpaw dipped his head thankfully and trotted into the room. It wasn’t long before Droserathorn could hear the tom’s soft snores. But the shaman was far from sleep. His mind was whirling. He couldn’t keep one particular thought out of his head. ‘It’s like we’re connected’. The tom sighed. It couldn’t possibly be true. But still, he couldn’t help but wonder. The conversation he had had with Aita just the moon prior. He was supposed to train his kin in the ways of the shaman. Maybe it didn’t matter if Frostpaw was from a different clan or already being trained. Destiny was a tricky snake, and Droserathorn didn’t know what was right and wrong. Maybe it was possible that they were somehow related. Maybe not. He had no way of telling. And he wasn’t in the right state of consciousness to try.

Number of Cats: 10 toms ; 10 mollies ; 20 total| Next Starclan Visit: now | Serving Size: 4 | Mod Notes: please no deaths atm!archive
Frostpaw huffed in exhaustion. While Littlefawn’s kitting had gone successfully, it was also long and tiring. Now, the apprentice was struggling keeping his eyes open. They had started midday, and it was now well into the night. Thankfully, the moonlight was vibrant, and the joy in the new mother’s eyes shimmered just as bright. “They look beautiful.” Skinknose gasped. She was a new addition to the nursery, and was expecting the kits of a tom named Ritcherscreech. Droserathorn wasn’t overjoyed about the new queen, but he was set of supplies, so he soon became overjoyed. But Frostpaw could tell that the only thing the shaman felt now was the overwhelming desire for sleep. “Thank you.” Littlefawn purred. She looked up at the two toms and smiled widely at them. “Thank you. Thank you both so much for helping me complete my family.” Frostpaw smiled genuinely down at her. Droserathorn gave a curt nod with a sweet smile and nudged his apprentice, signalling it was time for him to leave. The two left the heated nursery into the cool night. Frostpaw took a deep breath and allowed the breeze to evaporate some of the sweat that formed beneath his fur. It only lasted a moment, though, as the shaman was eager to get back to his den. They still had to put away all of their supplies before they rested, and Droserathorn was obviously keen to begin. Frostpaw padded behind the red tom, enjoying the rare quiet of the camp. It was late, and everyone had gone to sleep hopeful. He would be glad to announce the birth of the kits in the morning. As the pair entered their den, a cat was waiting for them. Weaselstar, clearly still half-asleep, was sitting anxiously near the door that branched off to his den. “Well?” He pressed, getting to his paws. “Three healthy kits.” Droserathorn murmurs “Two toms, one she-cat. Littlefawn’s doing great.” The leader’s face lit up. “Oh, oh that’s wonderful!” He purred “Well done! I’ll have to go congratulate her.” The shaman waved his tail. “In the mornin’. Everyone’s exhausted. They need their rest.” He told him with a smile, then bid his friend goodnight.
As the two were putting their herbs away, Droserathorn was becoming more and more delirious. He hadn’t been sleeping for the past few days. Littlefawn was overdue, and he didn’t allow himself to get too comfortable. He knew that if they waited too long, the kits and/or the mother would get hurt, and that was one of Droserathorn’s biggest fears. His drowsiness often led to a lack of thinking, so he was spewing out questions to Frostpaw. “Sorry if this seems invasive, but if I’m going to train you, I should know a bit about yer past, y’know?” He rambled “So. Were you born into TwistedClan?” He started at his new companion as he shoved a splintered stick into a crevice. The tom shook his head. “Do you have any family?” He continued. Frostpaw blinked down at his paws. “My brother. Didn’t know my parents.” He meowed quietly. Droserathorn lifted an eyebrow. He felt his heart pound. His theory had grown stronger since last moon. By now, it would take devine intervention to convince the shaman that he wasn’t related to the young tom. He didn’t know how. Maybe his brother had gotten frisky before he left. Or, the more plausible option, he wasn’t made aware of information. He had learned that the tom was around twelve moons old, born when Droserathorn was still a loner. A loner with a very close friend. He rejected that train of thought before it got too far. Shaking out his pelt, he watched as Frostpaw tucked the last lump of moss into its storage spot. “You did well today, Frostpaw.” Droserathorn praised “You earned a long rest. We won’t go early morning herb hunting. Wake up when you feel like it, alright.” The apprentice nodded and smiled appreciatively. The two entered their sleeping room and curled up in their respective nests. Droserathorn thought he would be able to stay awake for a moment, but he was instantly hit with a dark, comfortable sleep. He opened his eyes in a dream. But this was no ordinary dream. He wasn’t in the forest with Weaselstar, or by the water with Riversnap. There was no setting. Only inky black nothingness. He took a hesitant step forward, curious about what this place was. It wasn’t the star forest, even it had outlines of foliage, but it was like he was standing in dark clouds. After a few steps, a beam of light shot out from beneath his paws and slithered along the black ground. It ended a few cat lengths ahead of him, forming a circle of light. Figures started to mold out of the clouds. Soon, Droserathorn was looking at four cats, two adults and two kits. Squinting, he took a pace forward and recognized a kitten as a young Frostpaw. He was hanging from a tom cat’s jaws. His white pelt was splashed with black and brown patches. He was looking back at a she-cat, presumably his mate, who was carrying another brown and white kit. Something told him it was Frostpaw’s brother. She looked like Frostpaw, with a dark mask and paws, but a snowy white pelt. The shaman recognized neither of them. Realization hit him after a few moments of confusion. Those were Frostpaw’s parents. And Droserathorn was nowhere to be seen. He had no clue who they were. A breeze swirled around him, blowing the figured back to dust. He heard whispers in his ear. Frostpaw wasn’t anyone special, just a cat that had been placed in his path for him to train. They didn’t share blood, only their rank. Satisfaction filled the shaman. He felt himself tumble backwards and he drifted into a happy dream, filled with fishing and sunbathing.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
The next morning, everyone was fawning over the new members of RavenClan. “I can’t wait to hear the names.” Weaselstar gushed “My favorite part about this is the names.” Droserathorn chuckled at the leader as he shifted his weight excitedly. The shaman had already seen the kits, but today was the day that they were formally presented to the clan. All of the clan was waiting in a large half circle in front of the nursery, ready to accept the kits with happiness. The vines that hung from the building’s door started to sway as Littlefawn’s head poked through. She got halfway out before turning and nudging her kits out. They tumbled out slowly, stumbling over air. Owlgaze held back a squeal of adoration as all three finally stopped on shaky legs. Their eyes were wide and absorbent, taking in everything in the camp. Littlefawn followed slowly behind, taking care that none of the ktis fell. Once they were all settled, she turned to the Clan proudly. “I am overjoyed to present my three kits.” She announced. She nudged the small brown and white tom. “This is Dashkit, Cometkit (she nudged the solid brown tom), and Vixenkit (she nudged the red tabby she-kit).” The crowd yowled their approval, then dispersed to meet the kits for themselves. They looked thrilled, adorned with all of the attention, though Cometkit took a bit of time to warm up to his clanmates. Weaselstar hung back with his shaman, he would make a personal visit later. “Speaking of names,” He sighed “I’ve realized that your name i difficult to say sometimes. ‘Droserathorn’. It flows well, but it’s hard to pronounce.” The tom lifted his head. “When have you ever had trouble saying my name?” He huffed. The leader’s face reddened in embarrassment. “When I first met you, it took me all night of practicing before I got it right.” He admitted sheepishly. “Really?” The shaman laughed, smiling giddily at the secret. “Yes!” Weaselstar pressed “Anyways, I thought you should get a nickname.” Droserathorn blinked. “A nickname?” He echoed. “Yes.” his friend confirmed “Something classy, but short and easy to say, while still sounding like your name. Like, uh… um… like ‘Sera’.” Droserathorn just blinked at the tom, staring at him. “Sera?” he repeated. “Yea, d’you like it?” Weaselstar meowed cheerfully. “No.” Droserathorn said plainly “Don’t call me that, I beg of you.” Riversnap padded up from the group meeting the kits. “Hey, Sera. What’s up?” She purred. Droserathorn scowled. “Oh, not you too!” He groaned, making the other two burst out in laughter “You’re lucky I like you.”
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Ashpaw flopped down beside Marsh with an exasperated sigh. “I don’t know how you can stand this place.” She huffed. The elder tilted his head. “What d’you mean?” He asked, taking a bite from the mouse he was eating. “I mean it’s weird. What was up with that kit presentation? It’s like they were going to sacrifice them.” She meowed with distaste. Marsh chuckled. “These aren’t the sacrificin’ kind of cats.” He purred “But I have a story about some of you wanna hear it.” Ashpaw shook her head. “If you’re talking about the clan in the mountains with the bear, Starlingsky already told me it. She was from that clan.” The apprentice meowed “I don’t know how you’ve stayed here so long.” Marsh shrugged, looking to the nursery, where Lionkit and Marshkit were playing outside, no doubt to give the new residents some quiet time. “These cats are nice. Wrenpetal an’ her kits have been like family to me. I want to watch these lil’ ones grow up.” He explained lovingly. “Well, we’ve come to rescue you from this nightmare. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure they let you go.” Marsh lashed his tail. “Stop it, Ashpaw.” He warned. Ashpaw blinked one surprise. “What? You really don’t see anything odd about this, Marsh?” She meowed intensely “They haven’t even tried to contact us or help you find your way back to TwistedClan. They’re too nice, almost sickeningly hospitable. They’re probably planning to hold us here and murder us in our sleep.” Marsh snapped his gaze to her. “Stop it right now.” He scolded “Yer lucky they’re as nice as they are. They could have kicked me out. They could have killed me, but they didn’t. Though not everyone was happy at first, they all accepted me and welcomed me into their Clan. Wrenpetal allowed me to be near to her, and watch after her kits. I feel welcome and happy ‘ere, Ashpaw. I’ll go home with ya, but I’ll always have a place here. So, please, don’t disrespect my friends.” He flicked an ear and returned to eating. “Sorry.” Ashpaw murmured, but she was only sorry that she got yelled at, not the words she said. She got up and slunk over to the apprentice den.
Spikepaw was grinning as he sorted his rocks. He had collected them from around the territory while he and Agaricthroat were training. His mentor approved of his hobby, and said everyone deserved to have a little escape. Cypresstail had even given him one. It was an unnatural purple color, probably dropped by twolegs. Spikepaw loved it, though, and he protected his collection at all costs. He knew it was odd, though, and had been hiding it from their visitors. At least he was, until Ashpaw came waltzing in while he was sorting the pebbles. “Hey, uh, you.” Ashpaw greeted. She hadn’t been bothered to introduce herself formally to the other cats. “Have you seen Fogpaw and Mistpaw?” Spikepaw whipped his head quickly to face her. Panicked, he kicked his nest over his rocks. “U-Uh,” He stammered “I think they were hanging around Cypresspaw-tail.” He corrected. His friend had been a warrior for a moon, but he still hadn’t gotten used to it. “Oh okay. Thanks…” She trailed. “Spikepaw.” The apprentice introduced himself. He took a step forward and his nest slipped off of the pebbles, revealing them to Ashpaw. “What’s that?” She asked, pushing past him and tugging the rest of the nest off the pile of pebbles. “Are these rocks?” Ashpaw scoffed. Spikepaw cleared his throat. “U-Uh yea. I’ve been collecting them during my training sessions. What do you think?” He meowed cautiously. “That’s kinda dumb.” Ashpaw huffed “You should be training during your sessions, not collecting trinkets like a kit.” She waved her tail and swished away some of the pebbles. “Whatever. Thanks for the info, Sharppaw. See you later I guess.” She meowed, walking swiftly out of the den. “Spikepaw.” He corrected quietly, though she was already gone. He turned to look at his scattered collection. All of his work he had completed in sorting was reset. He sighed and turned back to them, blinking away the beginnings of tears as he regathered his pebbles.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Weaselstar napped gently beneath the tree in the middle of camp. His eyes were closed and he was soaking up the sunshine, enjoying the soft singing of the birds. Suddenly, a shape blocked his sun. He was about to scold Droserathorn, because who else would it be, but when he opened his eyes, he saw a very familiar, very pretty pair of eyes looking down at him. “Lynxshine.” He meowed surprised. “Hey Weaselstar.” She purred with a smile “Do you mind if I join you?” The leader shook his head quickly and scooted to the side to make room for her. “Of course not!” He exclaimed “What’s up?” Lynxshine settled beside him, making the tom tense up as their fur brushed. “I just spoke with Marsh,” She sighed “He said he wanted to stay here until Marshkit and Lionkit become apprentices. If that’s okay with you, of course. I don’t want to be a burden.” Weaselstar shook his head. “No, no! I mean, yes, that’s fine!” He chuckled “You’re not a burden at all. I quite enjoy your company. It’s been nice getting to know you over this past moon.” Lynxshine giggled. “Yea it has been. And I’m glad you said yes.” She admitted “To be honest, I like it here. Everyone’s so nice. Plus..” She paused, looking at her paws “staying here gives me more time around you.” Her words clawed Weaselstar’s heart with hope. He was lucky his pelt was red-tinted. If it weren’t, Lynxshine would be able to see the blush that burned his face.

Cypresstail laughed. “There’s no way that happened.” He purred. Fogpaw straightened her back. “Are you calling us liars?” she huffed. “I swear it’s true!” Mistpaw added “There were so many rogues! More than the ants in an anthill!” Cypresstail twitched his whiskers in amusement. “Then you two must be the strongest, bravest apprentices ever.” At his words, the two she-cats puffed out in pride. They were about to say something when Lynxshine called them from across the camp. Mistpaw rolled her eyes. “What does she want? We’re busy.” She huffed. Fogpaw shrugged. “We should still go.” She sighed “See ya later Cypresstail.” Mistpaw nodded and got to her paws “Don’t have too much fun without us.” The two apprentices left him alone, following Lynxshine out of camp. It was only a few moments before the young warrior felt someone slump beside him. Looking over, he realized it was Spikepaw. “What’s up, bud?” The tom greeted. Spikepaw just slunk to the ground, burrowing his nose in his paws and curling his tail tight around his body. Cypresstail’s jaw clenched. He had spent enough time around his friend to know that something was wrong. Spikepaw wasn’t exactly an expert at relaying his emotions, so the warrior scooted closer to him for comfort and prepared to draw out the necessary description of events. “What happened, Spikepaw?” He meowed gently, licking the apprentice’s ear. Spikepaw looked up at Cypresstail with wet, large eyes. He sniffled and looked back down at his paws. “I was sorting my rocks last moon and Ashpaw walked in. She called it dumb. Ever since, she’s been calling me a ‘stupid pebble-brain’.” He sighed quietly “I’m just overreacting, that’s all. I’m fine. Sorry for imposing, I just don’t want to be near her right now.” Cypresstail bristled in anger. How dare she. He would not allow anyone to pick on Spikepaw, even if it wasn’t intentionally cruel. “Well she’s an idiot for telling you that.” He huffed “I think your collection is very impressive. She’s just not cultured enough to see the appeal.” Spikepaw furrowed his brow, clearly not comforted. Cypresstail blinked and sighed, leaning down to his level. “Do you want me to talk to her about it?” He suggested gently. His friend’s head shot up. “No!” He gasped “No, please don’t. I don’t want her to think I’m whining about it. She thinks I’m a kit already, I don’t want to prove her point.” The warrior nudged his shoulder. “You’re not a kit, Spikepaw.” He pressed “I won’t say anything if you’re not comfortable. But please know that you’re incredible. Who cares what she thinks. Ashpaw is some arrogant she-cat who doesn’t even know you. I know you, and I know that you are the best cat I’ve met. Don’t give up the thing you love just because someone tells you it’s not worth it. Besides, if they don’t support you for who you are, they’re not someone you want to be friends with.” Spikepaw’s tears turned into appreciative ones. A smile painted his face and his cheeks puffed out with his grin. “Thank you Cypresstail.” He purred, nuzzling his friend “I don’t know what I would do without you.” The two toms stayed in their hug for several heartbeats, enjoying the feeling of closeness. After a while, though, Spikepaw pulled away. “That was great, but Agaricthroat wanted to take me out for another hunt today.” He sniffed and got to his paws. After licking Cypresstail’s forehead, he turned and padded to his mentor. The warrior could tell that his friend had regained his usual energy, and he had a new air of confidence to him. Cypresstail chuckled and looked around. He spotted a cream pelt, the new apprentice. He tilted his head and gave a small smile. She was sitting alone, looking confused about what she was supposed to do. He hadn’t introduced himself yet, but decided he should. So he got up and padded over to her.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Agaricthroat yawned. His hunt with Spikepaw had worn him out. But a conversation with his closest friend always gave him a burst of energy. Riversnap stretched, her paw poking into the side of his face. He batted it gently away, huffing at her. “Oh, sorry.” She meowed, faking her apology “Do you not like it when I’m in your space.” She dramatically flopped over, sprawling out and kicking a leg over his rum and her paw dangling in his face. He laughed and rolled on top of her. She squealed. “Ack, Agaricthroat!” She gasped “You’re crushing me!” The tom wiggled, making himself comfortable. “Oh, sorry.” He meowed, mocking her “I didn’t see you there.” Riversnap was able to shove him off of her, both laughing the whole time. They let out a satisfied sigh as they settled in their resting spots. “Sometimes I wish we could go back to when we were kits.” Agaricthroat hummed quietly. Riversnap nodded in agreement. “I’m glad we’re here, though.” She meowed “They gave us homes when we were alone. Besides, you would have never met your little boyfriend. How is Ghostspirit doing?” She nudged him playfully. Agaricthroat’s eyes snapped open. He frantically looked around and hissed at his friend to be quiet. “Oh, sorry.” She meowed, lowering her voice. “I can’t believe I told you.” He groaned “It was supposed to be a secret.” Riversnap twitched an ear. “Yea, I never understood that.” She sighed. “His clan is strict.” He hissed quietly “But...I have some good news. We found a surrogate!” He purred, and Riversnap squealed with glee. “Oh, Agaricthroat! I’m so happy for you!” She purred, nuzzling her friend “It makes up for your little crush on Weaselstar, huh?” Agaricthroat rolled his eyes and shook his head, laughing. “What about you?” He asked “How’s your love life.” Riversnap scoffed. “Nonexistent.” She responded “But, I mean, Droserathorn and I are getting close.” Agraicthroat rolled his eyes again, whisking his tail over the ground. “Droserathorn.” He repeated with distaste. “What?” The she-cat pushed. “Nothing, it’s just...are you sure he’s the right tom to be talking to?” It was Riversnap’s turn to roll her eyes. “It’s not like we’re mates, we just talk sometimes.” Her friend shrugged. “More like all the time.” He meowed “I just want the best for you. And if he hurts you I will personally-” Riversnap covered his mouth with her tail. “Alright, mr. tough guy, we get it. You’re there for me no matter what. But he’s a good cat, Agaricthroat. I like him.” She rose to her paws. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some mingling to do.” She meowed, flicking his chin with her tail before making her way across the camp to Droserathorn’s den.
“Hello, Frostpaw.” Riversnap introduced “It’s nice to meet you, my name is Riversnap.” Frostpaw dipped his head in greeting. He had been practicing his medicine skills with Droserathorn since he arrived. She leaned in close and looked over her shoulder at the tom who was counting his supply. “Sorry you have to put up with him,” She murmured, “He can be uptight.” Frostpaw chuckled, but Droserathorn heard him. “Oi, I am not!” He protested. The two cats started laughing. “No, he’s alright, actually. Just a bit prickly, like a cactus.” Frostpaw elaborated. Droserathorn stuck his nose up. “Well, jokes on you, I happen to love cacti.” He announced with pride “It’s an honor to be compared to one.” Riversnap rolled her eyes and brushed up against Droserathorn. “Your fur is just as spikey too.” She meowed “Did you walk through a briar patch or something?” The shaman rolled his eyes and laughed sarcastically. “Haha, so funny. Yer a real comedian.” He chuckled. “C’mon prickle pants. You promised me a walk.” She pleaded. Droserathorn got to his paws and looked to Frostpaw. “Can you hold down the fort for a bit?” he asked. The apprentice nodded and took his mentor’s position at the stores. “Have fun.” He meowed.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
The two stared at the sky. They had been visiting the same meadow that they had discovered moons ago. They considered it their territory. It was unclaimed, and both of them felt peaceful there. Clouds swam above them. “Did I tell you the seed is starting to grow?” Droserathorn meowed, turning his eyes from the sky to his beautiful companion. Riversnap shook her head. “No, I don’t think you did.” Droserathorn hummed. “Well, it’s not much yet, only a little sprout, but I’m tryin’ my best to help it, but I’m no expert.” The she-cat chuckled. “Aren’t you a shaman? I thought plant expertise came with the job.” She joked. They fell into a comfortable silence. “So have you been called ‘Droserathorn’ your entire life?” She started “I can’t imagine you as anything else.” The tom huffed and rolled to his side, getting more comfortable. “I’ve always been Drosera. My brother’s name is Venus. After the venus fly trap. I guess my mum was obsessed with poisonous plants.” Riversnap smiled. “I suits you.” She murmured. “What part, the ‘poison’ or the ‘plant’?” He chuckled. She didn’t answer, only shaking her head in amusement. “What about you?” He continued “What’s your story?” She rolled to her side as well, facing him. “I was born into a clan not too far from her. I grew up with my two sisters, we would always play around the warriors to annoy them. I became an apprentice, then a warrior. I watched as my sisters had families and became the best babysitter ever.” This made both of them chuckle “And then...well, I left.” Droserathorn scooted closer, furrowing his brow. “Why’d you leave?” He asked “I mean, don’ get me wrong it’s great having you here, but your life sounded nice.” Riversnap looked down. She worked her claws through the tufts of grass that sprouted under her paws. The shaman noticed this and jumped to his paws quickly. “I-I’m so sorry, I didn’ mean to bring up any bad memories.” He stammered “Y-You don’ have to tell me if you don’ wanna.” Riversnap shook her head and reached out a paw, placing it on his. “No, no, I want to tell you.” She insisted “Please, Droserathorn...stay.” He swallowed and returned to his position with a sweet smile and nod. “I’ll admit some parts were amazing. Agaricthroat and I were great warriors. My sisters’ kits were adorable. But...not everything is as good as it seems…” She told him her story. Everything. The good, the bad, and the ugly. And when she had finished, he spoke about his past. About his family, his journey, random stories from his kithood, anything that came to mind. The two relayed their stories, truly delving into each other’s histories. They stayed there, laughing and crying together, until sunset. And by then, they realized something. They realized that they had formed a strong bond of trust. A bond that would never break, and would always hold them together...forever.

Droserathorn padded down the meadow. He knew he was dreaming, but he didn’t try and wake himself up. The sun was warm, unlike the real world, and he enjoyed the feeling of the flowers brushing up against his pelt. He paused, looking at the puffy white clouds lazily floating through the azure sky. He found a nice spot to rest in. So he sat, taking in the atmosphere. He was enjoying the calm, but then it was disturbed. A familiar scent wafted towards and swirled around Droserathorn. The shaman shook his head. “That’s not possible.” He meowed to himself. “Anythin’s possible in a dream.” A silky voice pointed out behind him. He turned to see a ginger tom making his way through the flowers. “Ve...Venus?” Droserathorn breathed, jumping to his paws. “‘ello brother.” Venus purred, padding towards his brother “Long time no see, eh?” The two met in a nuzzle, sharing excited glances. “I knew this meadow looked familiar.” Droserathorn muttered “Getting better with your dream manipulation, I see. How far away are you?” Venus’ ears drooped. “Y-Yea, well uh, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about.” He chuckled “I’ve gone home.” Venus swallowed nervously. Droserathorn just blinked. “You what?” He whispered. “I-I found a two-leg that was goin’ back over the sea. I’ve met a group.” The shaman lashed his tail. “A group? I thought you said we would find one together! Venus-” His brother cut him off. “I know what I said!” He snapped “But I can’t help it. I was curious, you know I always ‘ave been.” Droserathorn rolled his eyes and was about to retort when the dream started to get fuzzy. Venus looked around, like he was fading, and opened his mouth, but no sound came out. Soon, Droserathorn became aware of the hard ground beneath his body, and felt his mossy nest move around him as he stirred. It wasn’t long before he was fully awake in his den. Jolting up, he looked around the room for any traces of his brother. All he saw was Frostpaw sleeping peacefully across the room from him. The shaman rubbed his eyes with a paw and sighed heavily, stretching as he got up. He pushed the dream to the back of his mind and prepared for the work of the day.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Bananapaw shivered nervously. ‘Cypresstail said it would be fine.’ She reminded herself. She nodded her head and took a deep breath, walking into the apprentice’s den. Spikepaw heard her and spun around, surprise and hints of fear evident in his wide eyes. He relaxed once he realized who it was. “Oh, hey Bananapaw.” He sighed. “Sorry if I startled you.” She meowed, walking further into the den. He shook his head. “No, you didn’t. I just thought you were someone else.” He elaborated. “Well, I...I just, uh, well, I wanted to give you something.” The apprentice meowed, sitting and curling her tail over her paws. Spikepaw’s interest was piqued and he turned his full attention to her, sitting in front of his denmate. She moved her tail to reveal a shimmering silver clump of rock. Spikepaw’s eyes widened at the sight. “I don’t know if this is a good one,” Bananapaw sighed “But I saw it during training this morning, and I thought of you. I think your collection is really cool! I hope this is okay…” Spikepaw flickered his gaze from the rock to her and back to the rock again. He extended a paw and curled the stone closer to him. The rock had small crystals embedded in its bumpy surface. “I beautiful.” The tom breathed in awe “Thank you so much.” Bananapaw nodded curtly, unsure of his reaction. She rose to her paws and cleared her throat. “Y-Yea sure. Okay, well, I’ll um...stop bothering you now.” She flashed a smile and turned to leave when Spikepaw leaped to his paws. “No!” He cried “I mean, please stay!” They held eye contact for a few moments before Spikepaw swallowed. “I always enjoy your company. W-Would you mind sticking around a bit?” Bananapaw smiled wider and nodded sweetly, returning to her spot and nestling beside her friend.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Lionkit paced nervously around the nursery. “Calm down, son.” Marsh sighed. They were the only two left in the den. Everyone else was outside enjoying the warm morning. But Lionkit was too nervous to sunbathe. Today was his and Marshkit’s apprentice ceremony. “How can I calm down?” The kit snapped “You’re leaving us!” He lashed his tail and continued to pace. Marsh sighed. “Sit down, lemme tell ya somethin’.” Lionkit hesitantly obeyed, flopping down on his behind. “I know it’ll be hard, alrigh’?” The elder confided “But I promise you, you’re going to be a great apprentice. And then an even better warrior.” Lionkit dipped his head. “I don’t know what I’m going to do without you.” He murmured “You helped raise me, you’re like my grandfather. I don’t want to say goodbye.” He let out a little sniffle and curled his tail tightly around his paws. Marsh sighed again and moved to him, licking Lionkit’s ears. “Oh, son, don’t be sad!” He cooed, nuzzling him “Listen to me, I’ll always be with you. You have the memories we shared, and all the stories I’ve told you. And if you ever need me, ever, I’ll be in TwistedClan. Don’t be afraid to come visit! I’ll miss you too, more than you could imagine, but I know you’ll be an amazin’ cat, Lionkit. I know you will.” The tom only let out a deep sigh in reply. Marsh got to his paws. “Alrigh’, c’mon now. ‘S time for you to become an apprentice!”
“Let all cats of age gather before me!” Weaselstar yowled from the headstone. The cats of RavenClan settled beneath him, stirring in excitement. As he looked down, he could see that the TwistedClan cats were sitting close to those they cared about, obviously sad at their looming departure. Ashpaw was the only one who looked eager to leave. The leader flicked an ear, returning his attention to the ceremony. “Today, we are gathered to promote two kits. As the first kits born into RavenClan, I am very excited to see them grow up and make our clan stronger. Marshkit, Lionkit, please step forward.” The pair of kits looked at each other and approached their leader. Marshkit’s fur was puffed out in excitement, while Lionkit was much more calm. “Marshkit, Lionkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Marshpaw and Lionpaw. Your mentors shall be Riversnap and Antlerpool. They have demonstrated their skills and are strong warriors ready for apprentices. I hope they will pass down all they know on to you.” As Weaselstar touched his nose to the apprentices’ heads, the gathering erupted into cries and shouts of praise and encouragement. “Marshpaw! Lionpaw!” They yowled. The two siblings were filled with pride, and bounced to see Marsh and Wrenpool.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Marsh pushed his way into Droserathorn’s den. “I suppose it’s that time, then.” The shaman sighed. The elder dipped his head. “Unfortunately, yea.” He sighed. “And you came to say ‘bye’ to me, eh?” Droserathorn chuckled. He abandoned his chores and sat in the middle of the den, engaging in the conversation. Marsh shrugged. “I figured I would see the cat that actually foun’ me out there.” He meowed. The shaman nodded with a smile. “I apologize for how we got off in the beginin’.” Droserathorn meowed “I know I can be a bit bee-brained.” Marsh let out a hearty laugh. “Droserathorn, believe me when I say that you aren’t a bad cat in the slightest. You may have a temper, but everyone has a fault. You truly have been a good host, and have become an even better friend. Thank you, son.” He purred. The shaman beamed at Marsh. The elder turned his gaze to the bed of soil that bordered the back wall of the den. “I see your plant is sprouting.” He pointed out. Droserathorn sighed, getting up and walking over to it. He gently nudged the small stem that peaked through the soil. “I want it to grow healthy. Riversnap gave it to me, and I want it to be strong.” Marsh examined the sprout, tilting his head. “Y’know, son, I heard somewhere that talkin’ to plants helps ‘em grow.” He offered “That, and plenty of water.” The shaman considered this. After a moment, he started to nod. “Yea. Well, I’ll try it, see if anythin’ happens. Thanks, Marsh. I’ll miss you.” The elder tipped his head. “Same here, son. Don’t be afraid to visit.”
“Are you sure about this?” Lynxshine sighed. Frostpaw nodded eagerly. “This is something I have to do.” The apprentice stated firmly “I still have a lot to learn, and Droserathorn is a good teacher. I’ll be safe, promise. Just...say hi to Volépaw for me, okay?” The she-cat smiled kindly and nodded. “Can we go now?” Ashpaw pushed fervently. Fogpaw and Mistpaw murmured some sort of quiet agreement. Though they were sad to be leaving Cypresstail, they were ready to go home. Marsh waved his tail to silence her, and he stepped forward to meet Weaselstar. “I’d just like to apologize again for kidnapping you.” The leader chuckled, twitching his whiskers in amusement. Marsh reciprocated his laugh. “In all honesty, Weaselstar, being here in RavenClan has been one of the best experiences of my life. I truly want to thank you for accepting me and, well, not murdering me.” He purred and, turning to Lionpaw, Marshpaw, and Wrenpool, added, “I will always consider you as my family. I’ll make sure to see you again.” The three rushed to him and embraced him in a nuzzle. Ashpaw rolled her eyes. “Okay let’s go!” She decided, turning to leave. The cats said their final goodbyes and reluctantly, but happily, started their journey back to TwisteClan knowing that their adventure would always remain with them, and the friendships formed would last forever.

Kitewhisker glared at the tom. “I just don’t think I see the problem, sweetheart.” He meowed. The deputy lashed her tail. “The problem is that you two are in RavenClan territory.” She growled “And don’t call me that.” The apprentice next to the brown stranger looked between them. “I-I’m sorry, ma’am. We’ll leave.” He stammered, nudging his friend harshly, but he ignored him. “Why is that a problem?” The tom continued “I mean, everyone here is in RavenClan territory.” When Kitewhisker didn’t indulge him, the stranger’s ears fell a bit. “There has to be some way I can earn your favor.” He meowed. “You can start by telling me who you are and why you’re here.” Kitewhisker meowed stably. “W-Well, my name is Cubsnarl.” He introduced “And this is my nephew, Bluepaw. We, uh. We’re lost.” Cubsnarl let out a little nervous chuckle and Bluepaw shook his head hopelessly. “We’re more than just lost, Cubsnarl.” the apprentice huffed “I’m so sorry he’s being so annoying, but we really need a home.” Kitewhisker’s face softened. She nodded and jerked her head after a moment. “C’mon. I’ll take you to Weaselstar.” The two toms paused before following her. “Think with your brain for one minute, please.” Bluepaw huffed “Just because you see a pretty she-cat doesn’t mean you get to be weird.” Cubsnarl blinked and swallowed, following Kitewhisker with embarrassment clinging to his pelt.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Riversnap and Agaricthroat were lagging behind their patrol, as they often did. They weren’t talking about much in particular, maily just enjoying each other’s company. Riversnap was thinking, as per usual. Thoughts from the past few moons had been swirling in her head all day. She thought of the times she and Droserathorn had spent together. When she pictured the handsome tom, a small smile spread on her face, and her heart beat happily. Agaricthroat noticed her change, and smiled along with her. “Why are you smilin’.” He meowed coyly. When she rolled her eyes, he persisted. “Ooooh, is someone thinking about her crush?” He purred, flicking her with his tail. Riversnap’s eyes snapped open, and she pushed him with her paw. “Agaricthroat!” She squealed “I do not have a crush on him!” The tom tilted his head skeptically. “Right, it’s totally normal to think about, talk about, and dream about a cat all the time. No romance involved.” He huffed “Why don’t you just tell him? It’s obvious he likes you too.” The she-cat shook her head. “I don’t know, Agaricthroat.” She sighed. She started to speak more, but the tom was suddenly taken from the conversation. A drifting scent nestled into his brain and captured his attention. A muddy scent with a sting. A scent he knew all too well. “Stop talking.” He meowed weakly. Riversnap tilted her head in confusion. “What?” She asked. “Shut up!” Her friend snapped. The she-cat blinked in surprise. “I-I was just trying to tell you about my feelings. You didn’t have to be rude about it.” Agaricthroat shook his head in irritation. “No, just...scent the air.” He sighed, his tone more gentle. After a moment of hesitation, she obeyed. As the air passed through her nostrils, recognition and horror lit up her eyes. “Is that?” Agaricthroat nodded. “Their territory shouldn’t be this close.” She gasped. “No, it shouldn’t be.” He agreed “They’re moving their borders.” Riversnap swallowed. “Should we tell Weaselstar?” She suggested. The tom shook his head. “I don’t know...I mean, do we really want them to know?” Riversnap flattened her ears. “Well they’re going to find out either way. You know that group as well as I do. RavenClan is our home now, don’t you want them to be prepared?”
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Weaselstar swallowed nervously. Riversnap and Agaricthroat were sitting in front of him. “You wanted to tell me something?” The leader started. The two cats looked at each other and nodded. Riversnap looked to Droserathorn, who was sitting to her side for emotional support at her own request. He gave her a reassuring nuzzle and entwined their tails for comfort. Riversnap took a deep breath and started her story. “The group Agaricthroat and I are from was nothing like RavenClan. When I was a kit, our leader was a kind and benevolent cat. She would always treat us all like family. I felt safe, and I had a good childhood. The group felt like one big, safe community, full of loving, caring family. Even when my mother died, I was still perfectly happy with my life while I grieved. But, then….well, then he came. It was sometime in leafbare, we were just made warriors and loving all the new privileges we got. Our leader was sick, but none of us were worried since we had a stellar medic. Hunting was scarce, I remember that. One of my sisters overworked herself trying to find a warren of rabbits, and she caught a cold. She was so upset that she couldn’t fully celebrate her promotion because she was stuck in the medic’s den all day. (Riversnap let out a little chuckle, but her eyes started to grow watery. She swallowed and took a deep breath before continuing.) They came in the middle of the day. It was snowing lightly, and there was a blanket of ice, so we didn’t want many cats out on patrol. But the one patrol brought back a small group of cats. A large tom named Caesar and a few of his buddies. They pleaded with us to let them stay, that they were starving and would do anything for a few moons of shelter, until the weather got better. Our leader, though she was sick, obviously agreed. I don’t think she ever did a cruel thing in her life (At these words, Agaricthroat dipped his head, hiding his sorrowful smile of remembrance). Anyways, she allowed them to stay. It was a few moons later, leafbare had passed and the weather was getting good again. I had become a good warrior by that time, and there was even talk of me getting an apprentice. Point is, things were good. The strays we had taken on had proved their viability and had become solid members. Until one new leaf morning. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was before dawn, and everyone was still asleep. Doe, our leader, wasn’t getting any better, but she also wasn’t getting worse. But that morning, I could hear her scream, everyone could. The warriors immediately got up and sprinted out to see what was wrong, and I was among the group that saw it first. (She took a deep breath and sniffled. Droserathorn presses against her for comfort). Caesar was standing over Doe. She was in a pool of blood, with a huge gash in her throat. She was obviously dead, and he had blood all over him, with tufts of her fur in his claws. He was obviously the one who killed her. He laughed, bragging about it. How could he laugh?! (She let out a quiet sob, taking a moment to compose herself before continuing). Everything changed after that. His goons had helped him tale over our group. Cats started to enjoy the new way of life, filled with pillaging and murder. Caesar has taken a liking to my sisters, I had three. He wanted them to bear his kits. The oldest two didn’t see another way around it, so they agreed. They were perfect litters and I loved them so much, even though I despised their father. Kits don’t chose who their parents are, so why should anyone treat them like they did? Anyways, my nieces and nephews grew up, and so did we. When his first two litters were apprenticed, Caesar wanted more. He seemed to reciprocate my feelings for him, so he skipped over me and went to my younger sister. She was from another litter, but she was only about four moons younger than me. I adored her. Being sensible and a bit naive, she rejected him. He went berserk and started spitting insults at her. I was standing there and he ordered me to...to kill her. Obviously I detested his idea, and I even landed a few swipes before his closest deputies tore me away. He killed her anyways. Agaricthroat tried to stop them, but he ended up getting beaten too. They chased us both out. It’s a wonder they didn’t kill us…” Riversnap trailed off, blinking at her paws. “The reason we’re telling you this is for warning.” Agaricthroat added “We scented them on the territory during our morning patrol. They’re terrible cats, Weaselstar. All they do is take and take until everything is theirs. They’re horrible and they’ll do horrible things. This is our home, our lives, there are cats we love here, we can’t let them do that. Not again.” As Agaricthroat finished, the den grew silent. Weaselstar’s head was bowed and there were dark spots by his paws made by scattered fallen tears. He looked up after a few heartbeats and looked at them, firey passion in his eyes. “I promise you, we won’t let that happen. Together, we will be strong. We won’t go looking for a fight, but we’ll keep an eye out. I want you two to lead two patrols, and make sure everyone has an eye out. Don’t cause any panic, since we don’t know what they want. Maybe they’re just scouting us out.” The leader decided with purpose “We will be prepared. RavenClan does not go down without a fight. Thank you both for telling me, it took great bravery, and you don’t know how much I appreciate it.” After a few more words, the group split off, returning outside into the night.
Riversnap has calmed down from her story telling emotions. Droserathorn has accompanied her to one of the tombstone grass patches just past the cement-floored camp. The grass was soft that night, and the moonlight sparkled above her. The tom rolled on his back, breathing deeply and taking in the sky. “Thank you, Droserathorn.” The she-cat said quietly “Thank you so much. I don’t know if I could have told him about my past alone. You really were there for me tonight, and I deeply appreciate it.” The shaman smiled sweetly at her. “And I’m very proud of you. It took a lot of courage, even with my presence. But you did perfectly. And you were very brave for speaking up in the first place. You did the right thing.” She started to purr and nuzzled close to him, tucking her head under his chin and being soothed by the steady pace of his heartbeat. “I don’t know what I would do without you.” She said sleepily, just above a whisper. Droserathorn blinked down at her. It was that moment when realization hit him. He finally realized that feeling, that nagging that had been chewing at his heart. He realized what he felt for Riversnap. Love. He loved her. And it was a strong, pure, unyielding love. He would do anything for her, even if it meant risking his own life. He would be there for her no matter what, through thick and thin, until they were both bouncing happily in the Garden side by side. He knew what he had to do. It wouldn’t be soon, but he would make sure it would get done, even if it killed him. But now, he enjoyed the feeling of her soft breaths ruffling gun his chest fur. He curled up around her, and the two cats slipped into a peaceful sleep

Skinknose smiled as Droserathorn passed Picklekit back to her. The new mother let her kitten snuggle up against her siblings, watching them with eyes full of adoration. “Oh, Droserathorn, I’m so in love.” Skinknose sighed. The shaman let out a small laugh. “Well, they’re all healthy. Did Tritonkit and Scinquekit make it okay to ChessClan?” Skinknose nodded curtly. “Yes, Richterscreech said they’re doing well.” There was a little scuffling noise in Littlefawn’s direction and she suddenly whispered roughly to Dashkit. “No, not yet.” She scolded “They’re too little still.” Dashkit rolled his eyes. “But they’ve opened their eyes.” Vixenkit popped up next to her brother. “And they’ve been walking around near our nest, why can’t we go visit them?” Cometkit answered his siblings before his mother could. “Because,” he sighed, curled up neatly next to Littlefawn “We’re almost apprentices, and they’re newborns. We would crush them.” Dashkit huffed. “Well, we’re not clumsy like you, Cometkit.” He meowed “We don’t trip over pebbles.” Cometkit’s cheeks grew hot, and his ears flattened in embarrassment. “One time.” He muttered. Littlefawn cuffed Dashkit lightly. “Stop it.” She meowed “Get back here. Just because they were presented to the Clan doesn’t mean they’re ready for your antics.” She shot an apologetic glance to Skinknose, who just purred. “We’ll see next moon how they’re doing.” She promised the kits. Dashkit got excited and Vixenkit purred, tackling her brother to the ground. Littlefawn gasped as they got dangerously close to Turtlekit, who had wandered lazily from the nest. “Outside!” She ordered her kits. Dashkit murmured an apology and chased his sister into the main camp. Cometkit sighed and shook his head, resting his chin on his paws and closing his eyes. Droserathorn herded Turtlekit back to her mother, and bid the queens goodbye. He almost tripped over Vixenkit on his way out, as she dashed between his long legs. “Hey!” He shouted, but the two paid no attention to him, and continued to run around the camp. He snorted and found Riversnap laughing at him. He raised an eyebrow and walked over to her, sitting under the shade of the willow tree. “What’s so funny?” he grumbled “They’re going to hurt someone”. “Oh, Droserathorn, lighten up.” She giggled “They’re just kits. Let them play.” She sighed longingly and laid down, sprawling out against him. “I can’t wait to see my kits running around.” She said quietly. Her back was turned to him, but Droserathorn’s mouth turned in a smile and his cheeks grew red and heated, making his final decision.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
“Well, it’s about time!” Weaselstar cried, beaming with joy. Droserathorn blinked. “W-What d’you mean?” He murmured. The leader rolled his eyes and prodded his friend, laying on the cold stone of his den. “Oh please.” He scoffed “Everyone can tell how hopelessly in love with Riversnap you are! It’s about time you do something about it! I’m so happy for you!” The shaman flicked his tail nervously. “I-I haven’t even asked yet, she might say no.” He sighed. “Get over yourself, Droserathorn. You two were destined to become mates. Why in the Guardian’s reign would she say no?” The tom shrugged sheepishly. “I dunno.” He murmured, kicking a small pebble “Maybe I’ve been misreading her signals this whole time. What if she hates me?” Weaselstar broke out in laughter. “Brother, if she’s faking it, then either she is a master manipulator, or we are all as dumb as a rock. You two have been practically screaming your affection for each other. In fact, I think the only ones who don’t see it are you two.” Droserathorn looked down and curled his tail tighter around his paws. Weaselstar sighed. “Listen,” He sighed, scooting over to his best friend “I believe in you. You’re perfect for each other. You make her happy, and she makes you tolerable, which is not an easy task.” This caused both cats to chuckle. “If you need my help, I will be here to support you, one hundred percent.” Droserathorn looked up at him and smiled. “Thanks, Weaselstar.” He purred “I dunno what I’d do without you.” The leader blinked affectionately. “Nothing. We complete each other. You can’t function without me.” Droserathorn laughed. Weaselstar shifted and looked excited, and asked him, “Okay, so tell me. How are you going to ask her?”
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Droserathorn took a deep breath and stepped forward. He cleared his throat and Riversnap looked up, pulled from her conversation with Amberclaw. “C’mon.” He order gruffly, swallowing nervously. Riversnap raised an eyebrow. “C’mon where?” Riversnap asked nonchalantly. “We’re going for a walk.” The she-cat giggled and nodded. “Yes sir.” She said with a smile, saying goodbye to Amberclaw and following him. They stopped once they reached the grass. “Oh, um.” Droserathorn paused “You need to close your eyes.” Riversnap blinked. “Pardon?” The shaman smiled sweetly. “Please. It’s a surprise.” His companion tilted her head skeptically, but obliged, shutting her eyes. “Fine, but if you kill me, I’m coming back to haunt you.” Droserathorn chuckled and draped his tail over her shoulders, weaving her carefully through the headstones.
“Okay.” He meowed “You can open your eyes now.” Riversnap slowly opened her eyes, squinting at first to adjust to the sunlight. After a while, she blinked and looked around. They were standing at the edge of the lake. The lake where they had met so many moons before. Riversnap put on a confused smile and turned to look at Droserathorn. “What are we doing here?” She asked gently. The shaman took a deep breath. “Riversnap,” He meowed “When I first met you, I thought you were a stuck-up annoying kit-cat.” The she-cat blinked. “Wow, thanks.” She huffed. Droserathorn smiled wider. “But, getting to know you has been one of the best decisions of my life. I severely misjudged you. You are such a beautiful, kind, caring...sometimes patient cat. You trusted me with your past. And I trusted you with mine. You are so strong, and I’m so glad that you looked past my shell and got to know me. You’re so incredible, Riversnap.” He shifted his paws nervously. “I-I really feel like we’ve grown close over time, and I truly think we were destined to be friends. But, see, I...um...well, I uh… (he swallowed, trying to think of words) I dunno how else to say this, so I’m just going to be blunt. I love you, Riversnap. Guardian, I love you so much. I’ve fallen so hard for you that you’re the first thing I think about when I wake up, and the last thing I think about at night. I crave the time we spend together, because it makes my life so much better. You make my life so much better. I understand if you don’t feel the same way, but I can’t hold it back any longer. So, I’m asking you...will you be my mate?” There was a momentary pause, but to Droserathorn it took ages. All he could hear and feel was his heart pounding in his chest. He looked at her with wide eyes, scanning her bowed head for any trace of emotion. Suddenly, her head snapped up and tears flowed from her clear eyes. She rushed at him, burying her face in his shoulder. “Yes!” She cried “Yes, yes of course! Droserathorn, you don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this! I love you so much!” Droserathorn blinked in surprise and she licked his jaw and pressed herself against him. He nuzzled her and licked her forehead lovingly. “I love you so much.” She repeated quietly.
He pulled away after a few long moments. “So, I had an idea.” He meowed. “Oh no.” She purred jokingly. “I figured, the first act we do as mates is uproot that stupid vine.” He spat the words and narrowed his eyes at the long rope curled on the ground. Riversnap smoothed his ruffled chest fur with a paw. “Hold a grudge, do we?” She purred “That’s how we met. Why do you want to rip it up?” Droserathorn tilted his head. “Well, you don’t want me meeting more gorgeous she-cats out here, do you?” She prodded him harshly with a paw and rolled her eyes, reluctantly agreeing to his plot. As a team, they uprooted the dastardly vine, and had a great time doing it. When they were done, Droserathorn brushed up against her and they intertwined their tails. They started walking back to camp, both of them more happy than they had ever been. They were mates, and they loved each other more than anything.

Droserathorn walked through his dream world once again. It was warm, even if the air in the real world was quite bitter. The sun shone on him brightly as he waded through the tall grass. He enjoyed the soft blades brushing up against him, and the warm ground beneath his paws. Suddenly, he heard a hissing noise. He calmly looked around for the source. The grass parted in front of him and a small snake slithered from the opening. Droserathorn raised an eyebrow, watching as the serpent grew closer. Once the snake left the gap, more were quick to follow. They approached the cat, who was growing more uneasy at their approach. The snakes started to wrap themselves around Droserathorn’s legs and no matter how hard he tried, they wouldn’t let go. More appeared, and they were ambushing him from every side. Soon, he was covered in snakes, and they started nipping at his pelt. The shaman was alone in the grass field, but he heard the Guardian’s voice, as clear as if he was standing beside him. “Beware of snakes.” He said “You know not where they lie.”
Droserathorn bolted awake, huffing and puffing in fear. His panting woke Riversnap, who was sleeping beside him. She was instantly worried, licking his ears to calm him down. “What’s wrong?” She asked, keeping her voice down as to not disturb Frostpaw. The shaman shook his head and took a deep breath. “Nothing.” He whispered back “Just a bad dream.” Riversnap hummed and cuddled closer to her mate, warming him and making him feel comfortable. Droserathorn rested his head again, drifting back to sleep, but still keeping the thought of the possible prophecy in his mind.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Mornings in the nursery were always hectic, as Owlgaze had come to learn. Since Littlefawn’s kits had become apprentices, it gave the remaining queens more room to move around, but Skinknose’s litter had been stuck inside due to the chilly winds, and they were getting fairly rambunctious. Owlgaze twitched an ear, curling her tail around her ever growing belly, and listened to the rustling of nests. Her eyes were still closed, but she figured it must be close to sunrise. Skinknose’s kits had a pretty timely routine. They would get up around sunrise, pester their mother until she walked them outside to the dirtplace, and then came back. But the crisp morning always put energy into their little hearts, so they would instantly start playing. Today was no different, and Owlgaze lifted her head slowly to see Turtlekit hushing Oriolekit. Skinknose looked to her denmate and whispered an apology for disturbing her. Owlgaze purred and assured her it was alright. The mother led her flock out of the nursery, allowing the still expecting queen to look fondly at her belly. “Good morning little ones.” She purred, running her tongue along her flank “I can’t wait to meet you. I know I’ve just found out, but I’m counting down the days. We haven’t met, but I can promise you I will love you forever, no matter what. You’ll all do great things, and I’ll be here to look after you. You may not know your father, but there are so many great role models out here. I’m so blessed to be in RavenClan, and there’s nowhere else I would want to raise my family. I can already picture the other kits seeing you, they’ll adore you, but not as much as I will.” She nuzzled her belly once more, and waited for her denmates to return.
Oriolekit bounced up and down on the stone floor. “Come on, Picklekit!” He urged “Come play with us!” The small she-kit blinked her wide eyes, and snuggled in closer to her mother. Turtlekit stuck her nose in the air. “She doesn’t have to if she doesn’t want to.” Turtlekit stuck her tongue out at her brother and curled into her mother and sister. “Whatever.” Oriolekit snorted “I can play all by myself.” Owlgaze tilted her head. “Why don’t you go see if Cometpaw is busy. I think he’s already gone out for training. Maybe he’s up for a chat. Oriolekit’s eyes lit up and he rushed a quick thank you before sprinting to the apprentice’s den to find his friend. Owlgaze and Skinknose chuckled as the other kits settled in for their nap.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Droserathorn trudged beside Weaselstar. The previous day’s rain had drenched the ground, as there were still patches of mud scattered around the territory. The friends walked down by the lake. It had become quite overcast, and the clouds held much more rain, since snow was practically nonexistent in their climate. Suddenly, a gust of wind carried a scent through Droserathorn’s nose. “Do you smell that?” He whispered to the leader, turning his head. Weaselstar flattened his ears in embarrassment. “U-Uh, I um, fell in mud earlier.” He murmured. Droserathorn lashed his tail. “Nah, I know what you smell like.” He snapped, wrinkling his nose “This doesn’t smell like RavenClan. Similar, but different.” Weaselstar lifted his nose and inhaled the air. His friend was right, there was a sharper scent wafting around them. It smelled familiar, but before he could truly identify it, a cat stumbled into their path. The tom looked like he just survived a hurricane. His fur was matted and spiked, and he was heaving with the effort of walking. The stranger collapsed in front of the pair. Droserathorn’s instincts kicked in, and he immediately elevated the cat’s head to help with his breathing. He gave the cat a once over. “He doesn’t look hurt.” He told Weaselstar “He’s just very tired and needs food and shelter.” Weaselstar nodded, still partially in shock, and led them back home, supporting the passed out cat with his shoulder.
“Snakewhisper?” Agaricthroat meowed in shock. The tom had recovered enough for him to leave the shaman’s den and walk outside. Agaricthroat had instantly recognized him. “A-Agaricthroat?” The tom, Snakewhisper, returned “What are you doing here?” The warrior lashed his tail. “This is my home.” He said bitterly “After you kicked us out, Riversnap and I found a Clan that appreciated us.” Snakewhisper dipped his head, swallowing. “Ah, right.” He sighed “I guess what goes around comes around, eh?” Agaricthroat raised an eyebrow. Snakewhisper looked up at him with tired eyes. “I got exiled as well.” The warrior couldn’t help but let out a cruel laugh. “What?” He chuckled “You? You got kicked out? Yea right. Caesar would never.” He scoffed and shook his head. He was about to add something, when Weaselstar called him over. “You know him?” The leader asked him. Agaricthroat nodded. “He was part of my old group. You know, the rogues Riversnap told you about.” The connection hit Weaselstar like lightning. The scent of Snakewhisper was the same one Riversnap and Agaricthroat carried when they first joined. “Do you trust him?” The leader’s tone was strained. He knew the story, and he never wanted his Clan to suffer like that. Agaricthroat sighed. “I’m not sure.” He admitted “He was always one of Caesar’s closest cats. I mean, things changed quickly, but I’m not sure if he actually kicked Snakewhisper out. Maybe he did, but either way, I suggest taking anything he says with a grain of salt.”

Number of Cats: 16 toms ; 15 mollies ; 01 other ; 32 total| Next Starclan Visit: whenever | Serving Size: 6 | Mod Notes: please no deaths atm!archive
Weaselstar spotted the cream and brown pelt he was searching out. “Snakewhisper.” He called, waving the newcomer over with his tail “Join me in my den.” The tom nodded and trotted into the building. The tom instantly noticed the difference between the leader’s den and the warriors’. Instead of individual sleeping holes, the den had a singular ledge that jutted from the back wall. Weaselstar leaped up to the perch and curled his tail neatly around his paws. “I wanted to talk to you about something.” Snakewhisper sat below the ledge and swallowed nervously. “A-Am I in trouble? Did I do something wrong?” The leader shook his head. “No, no.” He chuckled “Nothing like that. I just want to ask you a few questions, that’s all.” The warrior hummed, but the uneasiness still remained in his eyes. “I was just wondering what happened with your old group.” Snakewhisper shifted nervously. “I was kicked out. They know you’re here, Weaselstar. This land was originally theirs, before they lost it in a battle. Anyways, they wanted it back. They told a few of us to infiltrate your camp, but I refused. They kicked me out for being disloyal. I realize that I actually ended up in your camp, but I don’t mean any harm to you or RavenClan.” Weaselstar flicked his ear. “Why do they want our territory?” Snakewhisper shrugged. “I dunno.” He admitted “You could always talk to Caesar to find out.” The leader raised his eyebrow. “You mean approach the cats that want to overtake us?” He scoffed. The warrior smiled weakly. “Y-Yea, it doesn’t seem like a great idea, but I mean, if you did you would know for sure what they want.” The ginger tom considered this. “Where is the camp located? Could you take me there?” Snakewhisper’s eyes grew large. “Oh, uh, no. I could lead you to the border, but I’ve been banished. I can’t exactly just waltz in. You can wait for a patrol to spot you. They usually go out around sunhigh.” Weaselstar peeked outside. “Then we better leave now. Wait for me by the edge of the camp, I’ll collect a few cats and we can go.” Snakewhisper nodded and slunk out of the den.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
“I don’t understand why we’re actually doin’ this.” Droserathorn muttered quietly. “Because,” Weaselstar sighed “We need to assess this situation. I want to get a look at these cats in case anything happens.” The shaman rolled his eyes. “Right.” He scoffed at his friend “Because goin’ into the camp of our possible enemies is a perfect way to calm tensions.” Weaselstar just rolled his eyes and looked over his shoulder. Antlerpool and Cubsnarl were walking dutifully behind him. He had only chosen two warriors to eliminate the chance of intimidating the rogue cats. Suddenly, Snakewhisper slowed in front of that. He turned and nodded. Weaselstar thanked him and the warrior scurried off in the direction of RavenClan’s camp. A strong breeze made Antlerpool shiver. “It smells weird over here.” She meowed, wrinkling her nose “Like rotting leaves mixed with twoleg place scent.” Cubsnarl tilted his head. “I mean, we are in the middle of the forest. Plus Agaricthroat and Riversnap said Caesar’s group came from the old city.” The she-cat sighed. “Great. We’re going to meet feral city cats.” Weaselstar clenched his jaw. “I’m sure it’ll be fine. We just need to take things slow and not make any sudden judgements.” He turned to his friend. “This place does give off a certain vibe, though.” Droserathorn raised an eyebrow. “What d’you mean?” The leader shrugged. “W-Well, I dunno. It feels like it’s had a long history. It feels...spooky.” The shaman laughed. “Well, I like spooky.” He meowed. Movement caught his eye and he saw three cats walking beyond the border. “I think we found our patrol. Let’s go talk to some rogues.” Droserathorn cleared his throat. “Oi!” He called to the cats. They instantly tensed up, flattening their ears and looking oddly at the group “D’You mind comin’ over ‘ere?” They cautiously obeyed, and soon the three cats were bristling on the border. “Who are you?” The leader of the patrol asked “And what do you want?” Weaselstar stepped forward. “My name is Weaselstar, leader of RavenClan. I heard that your leader wanted to talk to us.” Shock filled the cats’ gaze. They obviously weren’t expecting this to happen. After murmuring quietly to themselves, a she-cat nodded. “Follow us.” She meowed curtly. Droserathorn shrugged and motioned for Weaselstar to go first. The leader rolled his eyes and trailed behind the strange cats.
Weaselstar didn’t know what to expect the camp to look like, but it surprised him how much it looked like a traditional Clan camp. The camp itself was nestled into a round hollow, with bushes surrounding the lip of the small cliff, and trees sheltering the camp in the clearing bellow. There were kits and apprentices playing around the hollow, and queens watching from the bush nursery. There were warriors that looked like any other warrior would. It looked like a normal Clan. The patrol brought them to the far end of the camp, where a den carved out of the dirt wall smelled strongly of leadership. The she-cat dipped into the den and returned with what Weaselstar could only assume was Caesar. The RavenClan leader swallowed and on the inside, was filled with intimidation. The cat in front of him was massive. He had a dark, sleek black pelt that his muscles rippled beneath. His eyes were a piercing yellow, and Antlerpool had to look away from his stare. Cubsnarl tried to count the numerous scars that cut through his fur and his muzzle, but he eventually lost track due to their abundance. Droserathorn looked to Weaselstar, whose ear tips barely reached the tom’s chin. “Ah, RavenClan cats.” Caesar greeted. His voice was deep and velvety, but struck fear into the hearts of the puny-looking clan cats. “It’s nice to finally meet you.” He smirked “Please, come into my den.” He turned around and retreated to his den. The cats exchanged a glance, took a deep breath, and followed after him.
The den was large, it had to be to fit a cat of the tom’s size. Roots dangled from the ceiling, and Droserathorn tried to dodge them as he settled in. Caesar flopped down in his nest and smiled broadly at the group. “So I assume Snakewhisper found you.” He meowed, licking a paw and drawing it over his ear. Weaselstar nodded. “Riversnap and Agaricthroat, too.” Cubsnarl added. Caesar’s ear perked up. “Oh?” He gasped, clearly interested in the prior unknown information “And how are they doing?” The leader narrowed his eyes. “Good.” Weaselstar said simply “Riversnap is expecting kits and Agaricthroat is a fine warrior.” The black tom nodded. “That’s good. I’m glad to hear they’re succeeding outside of our group.” Droserathorn flicked his tail impatiently. “Why did you want to talk to us?” He meowed tensely. Caesar chuckled, and the cats had to force themselves not to shudder at the gutteral sound. “Straight to business, then.” He sighed “Alright. I wanted to talk to you about our borders. I understand that you are inhabiting the cemetery and the area around the lake. Look, I know you want to build up your clan, but my group is trying to survive, the same as you, and it can be difficult when you have competing cats as your neighbors. I’ll be honest with you, at first I wanted to conquer your land and slaughter your Clan. I wanted to reclaim the territory that was once ours. But now, I realize that we’re the same. We’re both trying to have our groups prosper. I like to consider myself an adaptable cat. So, we’ll make a deal. You’ve seen the border now. Stay on your side, and we won’t have a problem.” Weaselstar blinked. Confusion still clouded his mind, but he murmured some sort of agreement. “Lovely.” Caesar cooed, and got to his paws. “Lilacstream and Ploverclaw will take you back to the border.” He dipped his head to the group and nodded to his guards. The she-cat cleared her throat and led them out of the den. Droserathorn was the last one out of the den, and he followed at the rear of the group. As he was crossing the hollow, a small black and white apprentice came bouncing up to him. “Are you from RavenClan?” She whispered “I heard Riversnap is with you?” The shaman raised an eyebrow and nodded, continuing to walk. “My name is Gladepaw. Riversnap’s my aunt.” She introduced quietly “Please let her know that I miss her! We all do.” She looked over her shoulder. Following her gaze, he saw a group of she-cats and younger cats lounging in the sun. A few of them bared a striking resemblance to his mate, and he guess that they were the family she talked about. He nodded dutifully and promised her he would. She bid him farewell with a sweet smile, and the shaman followed his clanmates back home.

Number of Cats: 17 toms ; 16 mollies ; 01 other ; 34 total| Next Starclan Visit: whenever | Serving Size: 6 | Mod Notes: please no deaths atm!archive
Skinknose purred as she saw her kits tumble outside the nursery. They were already five moons old, and would be apprentices soon. Sadness clung to her heart. While she was overjoyed to see her babies grow up, she would miss them dearly. She could still remember the day they were born. Her thoughts wandered to Tritonkit and Scinquekit, the two from her litter that went with their father to ChessClan. Were they okay? She had heard rumors that there was a sickness spreading, and she sent up a prayer to the Guardian to keep them safe. The thought of ChessClan sparked remembrance in her mind. “I need to tell you all something.” She said quietly to the other queens. Owlgaze looked up from her kits. She had been tightly curled around them since their birth the earlier morning. The kitting hadn’t gone terrible, but Owlgaze had a complication. Luckily Droserathorn had a plentiful stock of chervil, and was able to save her. The event still had its effect on the new mother, though, and she had been uncharacteristically silent, taking in her kits lovingly. Ibisheart stirred slightly from their nap, and opened an eye slowly. They didn’t lift their head, but their eyes were still focused on Skinknose. The nonbinary she-cat had joined last moon, and was the sweetest member of RavenClan Skinknose had met. They told Weaselstar that they had a gift, and would help others surrogate if needed. Riversnap paused from grooming her flank, and tilted her head curiously. “What is it?” The she-cat asked. “I don’t know exactly how to say this, so I’m just going to say it.” She took a deep breath. “I’m aromantic.” She revealed “It means I don’t have romantic attraction to any tom or she-cat. The problem is, I have so much love to give. I never had a family growing up, and I just want to give so many kits a good life. I want more litters, because I want to love all of my children. I know it may seem like I’m a kit-crazed she-cat, but I truly adore kits. I even found another tom to father my next litter.” She gazed out at her current litter playing outside “I just don’t know how to tell the three. I don’t want them to think I’m replacing them.” She trailed off and lowered her gaze. A single tear rolled down her cheek. Riversnap came over and nuzzled her gently. “It’s okay, Skinknose.” She soothed “No matter what, we will always support you, and your kits will too.” Ibisheart nodded. “And just because you don’t want a mate,” they added “Doesn’t mean you’re alone.” Owlgaze nodded. “You have a whole community to back you. If you need any help whatsoever, you just need to ask.” The other cats wound themselves around the queen and Skinknose was filled with happiness.
Droserathorn poked his head into the den. “Oh,” He gasped “Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt anything. I just came to do checkups.” Skinknose shook her head and blinked away her tears. “No, no it’s nothing. Come on in.” The shaman nodded and hesitantly entered the building. He made his way over to Owlgaze’s nest. “Mornin’.” He purred “How are the little ones doing?” The new mother smiled weakly. “Good.” She meowed happily “They were both feeding recently. I take that as a good sign?” The shaman nodded. “Very good sign.” He picked up the brown tabby kit, who squeaked loudly when his mother’s warmth was taken away. “You’ve got a fiesty one here.” Droserathorn chuckled through his scruff “Any names yet?” He laid the kit on its back and pressed an ear to his chest, making sure his heart sounded strong. Owlgaze tilted her head. “I was thinking Yarrowkit for him. His father’s name is Yarrowstream. We aren’t mates, but I want him to be remembered in some ways.” She looked down at her daughter, who curled tightly against her belly “And this one’s Robinkit. Her little patches remind me of robin feathers.” She leaned down to nuzzle Yarrowkit as he was returned, and Robinkit was quietly taken in her turn. “Lovely ideas.” Droserathorn smiled as he examined Robinkit, eventually handing her back to her mother “They’re healthy, but not quite ready to be introduced to the Clan. I’d say one more moon, and you can present them!” Owlgaze purred at the tom. “Thank you so much, Droserathorn.” The ginger cat nodded sincerely, and turned his eyes to his mate, who had returned to grooming her pelt. “Riversnap.” He cooed melodically “You need to stretch your legs.” The she-cat grinned and rolled her eyes, rising to her paws. Droserathorn felt pride and joy swell in his chest as he noticed her belly had become slightly larger. He was so impatient to meet his kits, and his future successor. He gently nudged his mate’s rump to coax her out of the den, and the other queens watched happily as they went.
They walked side by side around the camp. Riversnap sighed with relief as her muscles stretched out. “I’ve been so sore.” She groaned. Droserathorn’s whiskers twitched in amusement. “You’ve been laying down for the past moon. Of course you’re sore.” They walked on, pelts brushing and tails entwined. “So you heard about us visiting the rogue camp, right?” He asked casually. The queen bristled. “Yea.” She meowed tensely “Which I’m still not a fan of, but continue.” The tom flicked an ear. “Well, before we left, a cat came up to me, apprentice-aged. It was Gladepaw.” At the sound of the name, Riversnap’s ears perked up and her eyes widened. “Gladepaw?” She gasped “How is she?” She pressed. “She looks great. A bit skinny, but other than that, perfectly healthy.” The she-cat nodded. “She’s always been a small one. But I’m so glad. What did she say? Did you see anyone else?” Droserathorn couldn’t help but let out a little laugh at his mate’s desire to know. “I saw a few cats behind her. Looked like a she-cat and her kits, but they were all apprentices.” He meowed, to which Riversnap nodded “She just said that they miss you, and to be safe.” Warmth and love spread through her gaze. “I miss them too.” She sighed “I hope everything’s okay. Caesar has always been unpredictable. I just don’t want anything bad to happen to them. I love them all so much.” The shaman pressed against his mate. “I’m sure everything will be fine.” He soothed, licking her ear “We can take a few more laps, and then you can lay out in the sun for a while.” She nodded, and the two continued their walk.
⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜
Owlgaze had decided to follow Riversnap’s lead and stretch her legs in the camp as well. Yarrowkit and Robinkit were asleep, so she had given Picklekit the important duty of watching over them. She purposefully curled herself around the pair. Yarrowkit let out a squeak, and Picklekit licked his head to calm him down. Skinknose was keeping a careful eye on her. “They’re so cute, mama!” The kit whispered with a wide grin. Skinknose giggled. “I know sweetie.” The young she-cat looked down lovingly at the kits. “I want some.” She sighed. Her mother chuckled again. “You have plenty of time, my darling. Plenty of time.” Picklekit nodded and rested her head on her paws, closing her eyes and dozing off to sleep, tail curled around the two kits she was watching over.
