The Matcha Pumpkin

Matcha's tail twitched happily as her owner put large, ripe pumpkins on the counter for carving. The chubby cat loved this time of year, it was so cozy and everybody was having a grand old time with the fall festivities. Matcha's mint green eyes squinted and she purred contently at the smell of pumpkin and apple cider. Her owner, Tellan, stooped and patted her furry head, pumpkin carving knife in hand. "Awww, sweet kitty." She said joyfully as she poured a few ounces of cider into Matcha's saucer. Matcha lapped it happily and watched Tellan at work. Tellan carved cat ears, a floppy tail, and a full moon. Matcha jumped on the counter and pawed a lump of pumpkin guts playfully, as Tellan chuckled. "Now, Matcha, that's not good for you to eat." She explained as she shooed her away. Matcha crept away silently, slipping into Tellan's room and taking a comfy spot on her pillow. Later that evening, as young children wandered the streets in silly and spooky costumes, Tellan let Matcha out on the porch for her usual evening stroll. Matcha was attracted by a soft and warm light, coming from the Pumpkin! She stared at it and mewled, confused. The light was coming from a picture that looked like her! She curled up next to it's warmth. As kids came up to the porch to ask for yummy sugary delights, they stared at the Jack-o-lantern and Matcha with expanding happiness. "A matcha pumpkin!" they squealed joyfully. They started coming just to pet Matcha, not wanting any candy. Now every year, on that day, Tellan and Matcha drink cider and carve the "Matcha Pumpkin".

Leaves

Finally, she’s gone. Three months of it I’ve had three months of constant sunshine and picnics and heaven forbid ice cream. That Summer thinks she’s so amazing, all floaty dresses and daisy chains, we’ve been arguing for eternity. Why do leaves die in Autumn? Because Summer went and complained to management about her season not being individual enough. Of course I lost my temper, what a ridiculous claim! Though I’m pretty sure that was her plan all along. My perfectly justified outburst ended up turning the leaves red, which then made the trees throw a hissy fit and just drop them. You can’t get the staff now these days. That being said, the evergreens are fairly calm individuals and entirely unaffected by the warring of seasons. Ivy, yes ivy is a constant fellow, always there when you need him, and sometimes when you don’t- that annoys Summer, which is just an entirely welcome bonus.

But in a reluctant way, I am grateful about the leaves. You know why? Because darling Summer hates the joy they bring. I see children laughing as they run, noses red from Winter getting a bit ahead of himself (I don’t mind really, me and Winter have an understanding, he’s a pretty cool guy, pun intended), cheeks rosy with exertion, coats waving behind them like so many flags, and then that final jump. The moment when they are engulfed in burning leaves and when you see in them that something that lets you know they will remember this forever. And whilst in Summer it’s what children want, Autumn is for everyone. Have you ever seen the moment when a moody teen looks around to check no one is watching, proceeding to jump in leaves with a sort of glimmer of hopeful optimism? Or when after a long day the businessman kicks the embers up with a nostalgic joy?

Summer could never achieve this. Summer is too easy. It’s pools and picnics and holidays, but Autumn is different. Autumn is the fire which fuels us all, the instinctual desire of a species too often bound by expectation. Autumn is personified by hope.

"When the summer ends, the weather gets chilly and the sun goes down. We all feel a kind of undescribable feeling of joy. Whether it are the mosquitoes leaving, the leaves falling or the mushrooms rising from the ground. Autumn is one of the most remarkable seasons of all, it both ends and starts something. As the weather gets cold, the leaves fall down, dying so their beloved tree can live on through the winter. Slowly floating through the air, with beauty and grace, like they're dancing in the soft breeze that bring it all together. Piling up overtime to bring us joy and fun, together in hundreds, all there for one reason.
Image
As Halloween approaches, the black, orange and red colours come out, in both decorations and costumes. As the leaves keep falling, they decorate our holiday, dying for the sake of everything around them. Selfless, beautiful, dying but still there, they make a great difference to our cruel little world. As they softly go in numbers, they leave us all behind. And the leaves, we miss them most of any other season. The colour they bring to the world, perhaps even make you forget that nothing can be as perfect. But yet it is. The soft pillow they form under the feet of a child, breaking their fall like they catch them in their lovable embrace. Leaves show us respect, mercy and life.
Image
As if it's part of a fairytale, leaves never fail to tell us a story, and create memories. They're so soft yet so harsh, giving us hope, or hopelessness, tears, or joy. The ultimate lesson as how to care for others, sacrifice yourself for the sake of millions.
Image
Everything around us is dying, and yet, it looks so beautiful. There is a kind of comfort they bring. A warm cozy feeling even a fireplace can't give. The feeling of Autumn.
As it gets colder, and the leaves vanish, noses stuffed, blushy cheeks, trembling hands, we all wish it was Autumn once again. Because nothing beats apple pie and the scent of the wet leaves outside, the leaves that are there for a reason.
To keep everything around them alive."

Marking, because this looks like fun! I might try my hand at horror again.

Oh, also, question, can I use more than one prompt? I love mixing prompts whenever I can.
