Avery sighed, setting up her tent for the night. The desert night was bitter and freezing, the cold creeping in as the fire at her encampment went out. She rolled out her sleeping bag and crawled into it, shivering. Her hand closed around a tiny rock, it's hue such a bright magenta that the moonlight caused it to glow brightly.
It was the rock Mako gave her when the two first met. Avery always kept it close by.
"Keep this on you and I'll always be with you." Mako had told her, before giving her a kiss on the forehead and heading off on ehr travels. It was almost the exact same color as her eyes.
As Avery closed her eyes, she could almost swear she heard Mako whisper her a good-night, but when she opened her eyes Mako was nowhere to be seen.

Workshop Two - Day One Exercise

Where do they live and what is the geography like?
Hiro lives in a remote area of Madagascar. The area consists of beaches and thick forests, however this doesn't stop tourists from visiting it every now and again for the beautiful waters and coral reefs.
What is the society like there, is there a hierarchy?
The only hierarchy Hiro know is similar to a pack one. He and his mate, Ico, are the ones in charge (or the kings) and their children are the people.
What kind of technology does the world possess: modern, medieval, fantasy, etc.?
Fantasy, but modern fantasy.
Do many or only a few people live here?
Only his general family group lives there. No one else survives in the general area often, the ones who do tend to leave quickly.
Is the history the same as our world, or is it different? If different, how?
The history is generally the same, but Hiro wouldn't know that. I'm literally just describing feral situations. Even if he was human he'd be relatively confused regarding the history of the world since he's isolated from society. The only difference is Kalons are real in this world and Sirens are real, though almost hunted to extinction.
Is your Kalon(s) considered lower, middle, or upper class?
He has no class.
What sort of language(s) is commonly spoken here?
I'm not sure Hiro knows languages. He communicates mostly through body language and some broken Malagasy, French, and English.

Workshop Two - Day Two Exercise

Story Behind their Name:
So for Mac's name...
I was working on her character concept in a call with some friends. One of them left to go get some Mac and Cheese and... I liked the name Mac.
Character wise, Mac isn't her birth name! She was given a different name but changed it legally once she turned 18 to basically cut ties with her parents. She didn't, however, name herself after mac and cheese. Mac just thought the name sounded cool.

How many different places have they lived:
Mac is currently on the run from some pretty bad people of all sorts, so she's never quite lived anywhere aside from in her youth. Nowadays she never really spends too long in one location. Mostly it's just nights here, maybe sleep during the day there... Mac never knows where "home" will be the following night.
Why did they settle down where they are currently:
The poor girl hasn't, probably doubting she ever will unless she fakes her death really well and changes her looks majorly.
Is there an ideal place they want to live, or are they already there:
Mac wants to live someplace where she's safe with people who care about her. Where the Mafia and hit-men can't find her or hurt her or her friends and family. Someplace away from the madness that is her life. Someplace where she'll never have to worry about where "home" will be.
What are the biggest moments that have defined their life:
The biggest moment that has defined her life was truly when she ran from the mafia. Had she stayed, maybe she could've been okay. Perhaps happy even. But she was scared of what could happen. What she'd have to do to others. People who're innocent who were deemed guilty by her Godfather. Ever since that moment she's been running, fearful that around every corner could be her doom.
Does their future have a bright or darker outlook, and can they change it:
Mac's future is relatively unknown to her. It could be darker than a moonless night but it could also be brighter than the sun itself.
She won't know til she gets there, but she's pretty optimistic. There's nothing she can do to change it, aside from run and hope her future isn't her being caught.

If they could write a letter to their past self, what would it say:
Hey, younger me.
I don't really know how to start this or really what to say exactly, but... Just know things are getting better.
Mom and dad don't accept you, but that won't matter in the long run. They're jerks, bullies. They're too blinded by their beliefs to see how amazing, smart, and clever of a son they have.
You'll really surprise yourself with how far we'll get in life. Percy will stick by your side even when it feels like no one else will.
He really cares about you, you know, and he'll get you out of the sad excuse of a family you're dealing with.
We can do this. We already have.
Just be strong for me, Percival. You're almost there.

Workshop Three - Day One Exercise


Has your kalon ever met their grandparents? If so, what do they think of them?
Red has not met her grandparents, nor have they really been mentioned to her. One of her fathers was orphaned and the other keeps quiet about his family.
What is your kalon's relationship with their parents?
Red adores her fathers. Despite the situations she gets into, she knows she can always count on them to back her and she always makes sure they know she's alright at the end of the day. She feels rather bad about making them worry sometimes and tries to bring them gifts whenever possible.
Do they have any siblings? Are they blood related or adopted?
She's got two adopted siblings and one blood related sibling. Avery and Kou were adopted long before Red and her brother, Dumpling, were born when her fathers were still unsure children of their own. Both the adopted siblings are grown up and moved out and she doesn't generally talk very much with Dumpling.
Does your kalon have children? Do they/did they ever want to have kits?
While she doesn't have kids of her own yet, Red wouldn't mind having them. She's a very motherly person as is and would love kids, adopted or otherwise, of her own.
Which family member is your kalon closest to? Why?
Red is very close with her father Miette. He was the one to taught her what she knows about poisons. She frets that she worries him too much with her ties with the Mafia and he is always happy to see her when she gets home. Miette is relatively protective of Red and wouldn't let anyone get away with harming her.
Is there a family member your kalon wishes they could know better? Who is it?
Red very much wishes she could be closer to her older adopted sister Avery. She isn't around with her family much and Red hardly remembers her at all from her childhood. Honestly, Red could see Avery on the street and not even recognize her.

Workshop Three - Day Two Exercise


Who is your kalon's enemy/least favorite person? How did they come to feel this way about them?
Cygnet's least favorite person is Plight. While Cygnet isn't the greatest person due to her thieving, she believes she does it for the right reasons due to her family's situation. She was caught stealing from him and he stole her away to his castle so she could work to repay her "debt" to him. Cyg is happy she wasn't killed, but she's still really angry with him for basically kidnapping her.

Workshop Three - Day Three Exercise

Besides their best friend, who else is your kalon friends with?
Aside from Plight, who'd grudgingly be called a friend, Alice doesn't really have anyone. She's got an unpleasant temperament that many Kalons can't stand and those who do don't generally get a chance to meet her because they're also the ones who're smart enough to stay away.
What qualities does your kalon look for in a friend?
Alice just wants someone who can stand there and look pretty while she talks, mostly to herself. She'd not be the best friend in the world, hence why her friend numbers equal out to one.
What qualities does your kalon dislike in a friend?
Weak people are some of the worst people to her. If you can't go a day without crying, Alice doesn't want you in her sight. She has no time for people who'll just be killed off due to natural selection.
Would they risk their life to save a friend? A stranger?
Alice in some cases would risk her life for a child, but only very rarely. She may seem heartless but something still beats in there. Her friend however can die and she'd not bat an eye. It's just the friendship they have.
Is it easy or hard to earn their trust? Why?
Alice trusts Plight and only Plight. Her trust is very difficult to earn and most will never earn it. Only a mate or possibly a child could be close to getting it.
