What will we call you:
Horse

What are your goals as an author?
-Edit my novel
-Finish writing my novel
-Publish my novel
-Become a professional author
-Be remembered
-Be someone inspirational

Can you give us a sample of your writing?
Momentarily, yes.

Are you currently working on any books?
Yup. It's a rewrite of Phantom of the Opera.

Why do you want to join?
Well, I'm the co-founder, so joining it is kind of mandatory . In all seriousness, though, I was looking for a community of writers with whom I could talk with. Sometimes the world can be very lonely for a writer, so having other like-minded people to talk to is wonderful! I have already made some splendid friends here, so I think I made the right choice to become a part of this.

Do you have published books yet?
Not yet

Do you wish to find a "writing partner"?
Sure, why not?

What's your favorite genre to read? Write?
I'm a huge fan of historical fiction, the classics, and the paranormal when it comes to reading. The same goes for writing. My goal is to write a Victorian ghost story, or something, though I'm content with rewriting classics. I also have this sci-fi novel stewing in my head.

Were you a member of the old thread?
Yup

What will we call you:
I like being called "Vrazda," but I also get called "Vradza" or "Vrazzy" quite a bit, so any one is fine. ^^

What are your goals as an author?
1. To get at least one book published
2. To improve my already fairly ample knowledge of utilizing the English language
3. To break at least one of Christopher Paolini's records. The way he steals from other people's works just annoys me, and I am hoping to show him up someday. =P

Can you give us a sample of your writing?
'Tis not great, as it is yet unedited, but here it is:
(This is the opening to an original novel - my writing style is not normally narrative like this, but I wanted a sinister opening that seemed best attained with this style) ;)
It was a dark night, though not a special one in anyone's book. The pale crescent moon slid behind some clouds, casting a weak and watery light on a tall and dark figure below. Snaps of blueish lightning writhed around his long fingers like an odd style of living glove. His skin looked crow-black in the moonlight, and the only distinguishable features on his face were twin peaks of reflective light where his eyes should be. Malice seemed to pour out of those black eyes, more than any human soul could hold. The figure knelt down, the movement smooth and surefooted, and gazed quietly into a deep, gleaming pool.
"Lord Misterothe!"
At his name, the figure slowly and unconcernedly turned to face the speaker, making it evident that he wasn't surprised.
"What have you to report, underling?"
"She's been found... the one concerning the prophecy?"
Misterothe thought for a while before he replied. Then, "There is something more about this that I sense. How did you find her?"
The messenger gulped, he was not looking forward to his reply. "We found her grave, sir. The prophecy must have been mistaken."
Now the tall Dark Elf fell silent, making the messenger wait a long while for his reply.
"No kin? Offspring?"
"My lord, we...," the young elf's voice wavered a moment before he continued. "...We did not think to check."
"Fools! Did I not tell you this may happen?"
The lightning around the tall figure's hands seemed to intensify, flaring for one brief second in reflection on the messenger's eyes. His terrified eyes. And what followed showed he was well right to be feeling so.
As the messenger's unfortunate body fell to the ground, still sizzling, Misterothe turned back to the pool, its shifting green-blue light reflecting off his disturbingly calm face. His long black hair fell from his shoulders, hanging around his head as he stared intently into the pool. The unnatural blue tips to it almost stroked the water as he closed his eyes and started speaking in a low voice.
"Tonight, mirror of the Ice, one of five, show me the One."
The still water remained cold and dark. Misterothe just smiled slightly and started murmuring in a dark tone, saying enchanted words that never should be repeated in the light. A large and dark bat flew to him, its spidery claws wrapping around the lord's shoulder. Misterothe whispered the same words to the bat, which leaned in and seemed to listen with a dark and unnatural intelligence. A sharp jerk of its head and it took off with a great flapping of wings. Misterothe watched it fly off into the night, then turned back to the pool, concentrating all his dark power on bending it to his will. Slowly, a watery image started to take form. The Dark Lord smiled, and his perfectly white teeth caught the reflection of the pool, no longer a pure green-blue tint.
The moon, high above in all its splendor, pitilessly watched all that transpired.
It was a night that marked the death of many, but was not a special one in anyone's book.

Are you currently working on any books?
I have seriously started work on two books, one a very long comedic fanfic and the other a serious medieval fantasy, and I have ideas for about five more completely original ones in the works. I also enjoy writing essays, (though in school I almost got demerits on some for taking too many comedic creative liberties on those normally dry and boring format essays), and I have written one or two short stories.

Why do you want to join?
The books I am currently working on I have started for NaNoWriMo, but it turned out I didn't have the time for them so they were bumped to the summer. Joining an active writing club is a way of reminding myself to keep writing in my spare time, and so I don't just drop my shoved-to-summer projects. Also, I've been looking for ways to get more involved around CS. =)

Do you have published books yet?
No... and quite frankly I don't have a great idea of how to get that accomplished, either.

Do you wish to find a "writing partner"?
No.

What's your favorite genre to read? Write?
Medieval fantasy, sci-fi, military-related action-suspense.
Those three answer both questions. ;)

Were you a member of the old thread?
Nope, I'm a newbie. :)

Vrazda, impressive application, but I need some form of a writing sample to accept you. Anything will do, and you can always change it later.

Vrazda! Oh! I see that sample now, and you are accepted. Adding you to the list! And Doctor Who is the best...though Sherlock may not begin to compete for my affection.

What will we call you:
VeritatisSplendor is a pain in the neck to type, so I guess Splendor...or something. xD I honestly don't care.

What are your goals as an author?
1) To come up with a writable plot that is not a result of just randomly starting to write and seeing what happens.
2) To use this plot to write my own, multi-chapter story that is not a result of a writing partner nagging me every paragraph.
3) To overall improve my writing, grammar, style, most especially characters.

Can you give us a sample of your writing?
I was having a little fun with making up a myth on why it was such a warm winter in America. ;)
It was a typical day on Mount Olympus. It was sunny and breezy, and nymphs danced in the streets. But in an ancient, almost forgotten tower, an epic battle was taking place.

"Give ME the globe!"

Pale, icy fingers curled indignantly over the controls in front of a large, glass globe and grasped the large lever possessively. "It's my turn! You get the controls next, wait your turn!"

A golden haired girl with flowers in her hair and grey eyes the color of hail frolicked around her tall, dark haired, harsh faced, but coldly handsome brother. She whined incessantly, alternately smiling and distracting Winter by making a flower pop out of the ground before diving for the controls. "But it's so boring! Autumn had all the fun and now you are just sitting here blowing a little frost on the ground. Everything is just so darn cold!"

Winter jumped out of the way, knocking Spring aside and regaining control over the globe, which had begun to clear of the thick grey clouds that had pervaded it earlier. He rolled his eyes. "Oh, so I should just go dump a few feet of snow on them like I did a year or so back? That was fun, but it left me in a coma for weeks! Anyway, things are going to go in a nice cold snap tomorrow so hold your horses. I planned it just in time to kill all of the flower blossoms you allowed to bloom after you knocked me out for a week and took over. Remember? How it was like 68* in DECEMBER? It was horrible! I am going to make sure these humans rue the day they ever begged for snow. Don't you have hair to brush and earthworms to coax or something?"

Angry tears sprang into Spring's eyes, which had become stormy. "Fine! You go and kill all that is alive and green while I plan for spring!" She flounced off, an April rainstorm developing around her and sending gusts of rain through the room.

Winter flinched as the rain hit him, and promptly turned it to sleet. "Spoiled brat" he muttered, focusing his attention on the mortals which had just had a wild day of sun interspersed with rain and gusts of cold north wind. He delved into the task of constructing an enormous snowstorm, gathering some cold air here, pulling some moist air there, pushing it with some nice wind and all the while making sure that the mortals experienced a nice, grey, rainy winter day.

****

Spring sat brooding on her bed, legs swinging as she rested her chin on her fist, forehead crinkled in meditation.
Winter always has all the fun, making things cold and never even protecting her plants with snow! Always ice and rain, it was boring!

She lifted her head and stared out the window, eyes growing misty as she looked far off from the mortal region she and her brother had been tormenting to where her aunt allowed for perpetual summer. Why not? It was certainly better than freezing to death!

She wrapped herself in a March fog and descended silently down the stairs, feet scarcely whispering on the cold stone. Reaching the room of the four seasons, she conjured her hoe and padded silently on Winter, who did not notice her. Too late, he glanced over his shoulder and opened his mouth in an exclamation of surprise, only to be quickly struck down. Winter sprawled on the ground, out cold.

Spring leaped to the controls, redirecting the snowstorm just in time to Texas and immediately raising the temperatures once more. A sunny day, 60* and perfect, rested gently on the mortals, who scratched their heads in confusion.

It didn't take long for Winter to come to. With a groan, he sat up blearily and saw Spring at the controls. With a roar, he jumped and slammed the control board, sending the next day into a bitter cold snap. Snarling, he turned on Spring and chased her about the room. Spring shrieked in terror and ran like a startled deer. Winter, with a grunt of irritation, changed into a biting north wind and swept towards her, sending darts of icy rain flying in all directions. Spring, seeing her chance, leaped for the globe and yelled "Spring!"

The globe contracted, moaned, and produced a mild, sunny, though cool day. Winter yelled and changed back into himself, conjuring his ice sword, and slashing at the controls. "Winter!" he bellowed.

And thus it went, and for weeks the mortals were baffled by sudden warm weather followed by snows, rains, cold frosts, which were then followed by baffling warm weather once again. However, they never suspected the epic battle which produced their bizarre weather.

Winter did eventually win out, and in February put Spring into a deep sleep that would last until her turn in April. Tired out by his hard-fought victory however, he was only able to manage some freezing weather and a light snow before falling into his deep, year long slumber once more. Not to menace the mortals for another winter.

Are you currently working on any books?
Yes...sort of. My bf Kess and I are working on a story that we hope to get published someday called Misunderstood.

Why do you want to join?
To maybe find help and commentary on my writing beyond just "oh I like it!" And also to read and enjoy other people's work. :D Also I guess to maybe find inspiration when even pressing a key to write anything feels like torture. Annd, that's all that springs to mind. *feels selfish for having self-centered reasons to join*

Do you have published books yet?
No.

Do you wish to find a "writing partner"?
No

What's your favorite genre to read? Write?
Adventure and fantasy mostly, though I have favorites in all kinds of genres. Anything with action! To write...Medieval, fantasy, realistic set in present, anything besides sci-fi or romance I guess.

Were you a member of the old thread?
Yes, I just changed my username from "HorseDreamer" page 19.

I managed to pull out an old bit of writing, though the opening isn't edited yet. :)
Sorry for not including it before - my writing was all kept on another computer so I had to forge through a mess of shared files and folders to find some. :)

...Sorry if I shouldn't be posting yet... =P

Fake!Edit: Oh, glad you already saw it. Thanks for accepting me, even though my writing isn't that great. ^^

*Flails around with a bit of mouth frothing* NEW THREAD!! *twitch*. I'm hyper - my apologies :D I just fixed my form mwahaha!

Welcome new members! ^_^

Quick question horse - Should there be a part of the form that says what sort of literature you're most fond of writing? (Aka poetry, novels, short stories, etc...?)
This is a shared internet connection with the rest of my apartment block, I also share this computer with my friend Cupsey, we may occasionally trade with each other! please don't ban us!! o3o

Second to last question, Lasesi. ;) I just combined the two questions.

And I think I am going to provide links to people's form instead of doing the code box. It is taking up a lot of room, but a link to the form might work.

And I'm going to test out the poll...and I'm kind of in a giddy mood...Mwhahaha!

Whoooops... I just overlooked that... completely o3o

POLL! Please! <3 I wanna vote! *Flails around some more*

Though with the forms - i don't think they're that bad? Maybe see how many people join before changing it... I sorta like the way its set up ^_^ And that way people are more likely to read the forms of others instead of just ignoring them? *shrug* I dunno - I can't focus right now... sugar happy X3

OH! and another thing (two things XD) What are the "ads" you're talking about? o.O Are they like banners etc? And also - perhaps you could make room on one of the posts to put lists of people who are looking for writing partners, and also perhaps a list of people who are willing to do edits / critiques and people looking for help with edits and critques or something like that? :) *cause I know i'll be on that list X3.. or both lists*

I keep remembering things to say! AH!

I was thinking maybe we could extend the mascot contest to maybe mid feb? I only say this to give the new members of this thread a chance? (and also most that joined after i did (At least) probably don't know much about the contest etc as well soooo...)
