These journal entries were written by Rynn several months ago. They tell the story of her Amulet, and bits and pieces of her life. Though its not very detailed, if you read between the lines you can see into her clearly. Take no harm from her words, and feel no guilt for her situation. Being born into a high up family brings upon no shame or pity from others.

(this is exactly 1000 words, not including the titles, anything in this post, or her name/signature)

DECEMBER 31, 2012

ghiI spoke with the Moon today, and Mother was not pleased with me.
ghiShe says the Moon is a curse, that only black and darkened souls filled with evil would ever align themselves with that "curse". I tried and tried to tell her the Moon wasn't bad, that it spoke of things never heard before, secrets unveiled to me that only I would understand. Then she slapped me, and hit and punched and bit and clawed at my fur, and at the charm that hung from my neck. Mother says that I'm a disgrace, that she and my ancestors have worked all their lives to keep themselves and the family aligned with the Sun. Mother says that I ought to be disowned and executed, but only Daddy has that kind of power (he is the head of the house after all).
ghiI know better than Mother, I know that the Moon doesn't mean evil, darkness, or whatever Mother thinks it means. She says all the Moon does is steal; it steals the light of the Sun, and casts coldness down on the Earth. She tells me that I will steal from the family, that I will steal our honored name and social status.

ghiSissy watched all of this arguing and fighting with her amber eyes wide. Poor Sissy. Three years old and she's already witnessing violence and hearing the cruel sounds of harsh words.

Perhaps things will get better with Mother.

JANUARY 2, 2013

ghiToday was a good day, in a way.
ghiMother has decided to ignore me, and she tells Sissy to stay away from me. But that doesn't bother me, not in the slightest. I walked around with pride throughout our camp, and many whispered and stared, mostly because I was the first in the Marcus family to ever speak with the Moon. The Moon spoke to me, and told me things about others I never knew before. The amulet I wore glowed softly bit brightly in the sun, glittering and reflecting light occasionally.
ghiSometimes, I wonder what my life would be without the Moon. I would know nothing, nothing at all. I wouldn't know that Mother does truly love me deep down, or that Sissy will never grow up to hate me. I would never have found out that the son of the Chief, Tyler, was supposed to marry me (ugh). My life would be meaningless, without purpose. The Moon and I are closer that siblings, closer than a mother or daughter would ever be. We are as one, and together we know all and remember all.
ghiI can clearly remember the ceremony in which I received this necklace, the way the piece of the Moon floated down through the center of the Healer's tent and turned the orange flames of the fire silver. I remember the way it spun a silver wire from it, and rested itself around my neck. Since then, it has never come off. I've been told it's impossible to take it off, and that the power never dies.

ghiI must go now, the Chief is calling for a feast. Tonight is the Festival of the Stars, and all are required to attend.

ghi The Festival of the Stars was wonderful! I hung out with Hickory, a rather handsome Dragon who knows much about the stars, which isn't surprising. Hickory speaks to the Stars, and he seems to know everything about them. We got along surprisingly well. Well, I guess its not that surprising since we are both connected with the night, but Stars aren't seen as evil.
ghiI believe I may have spotted Tyler eyeing us jealously but that doesn't matter. The Moon told me its history, which is much more important. It told me of how it came to be, and why it started talking with our tribe. The Moon told me that it was the first to speak with us, and that hundreds of years ago, everyone spoke with the Moon. The Sun was to stuck up and snobby apparently, and had no wish to meddle with the tiresome troubles of the Dragons. Not to long after the Moon began to speak with us, the Stars opened themselves up also, along with a few Nebulas and the occasional Black Hole. After seeing that the heavens were getting all the glory, the Sun began to speak to us. The Moon says that the Sun stole the true speakers of the Moon from him, and told the Sun speaking Dragons things that were not supposed to be told; things that could be used to manipulate and destroy.
ghiThe history of the Moon is much more detailed than this, but from what I understand, the Sun is much eviler than the Moon is believed to be. Knowing this makes me all the happier to speak with the Moon, and I know that Mother doesn't really hate me as she says. Its just the Sun putting those beliefs in her, telling her lies about my true abilities.

ghiAll of this new information is wonderful. Perhaps I will find Hickory and hang out with him tomorrow, and we could compare the histories that the Moon and Stars have. I dare not talk to a Sun speaker, for fear that they may slash at me and call me cursed and evil.

FEBRUARY 14, 2013

GHITyler proposed to me today. I wanted to tell Hickory but I didn't have time to, and was forced by my current situation to say yes.
GHIDaddy had disowned me from the family yesterday, and he was probably forced by Mother to do so. I had contaminated the family name she said, I was “diseased”.
GHII call myself Rynn Hawthorne as of now.
GHIThe Moon says not to worry, that Tyler will let Hickory and I be together, since Tyler loves me and wants me to be happy. I feel bad for Tyler, but I do love Hickory, truly and wholly. The Moon says that this is not unusual, and that the tribe will not scoff me for this.
