"My tomorrows cannot be your tomorrows," he whispered, kissing my forehead tenderly. I looked up at him, tears in my eyes, as he stepped back towards the edge of the cliff.
"I know," I nodded in a choking whisper. I knew what I was going to do. I couldn't live without him. I dashed madly towards him, pushing him away from the edge, and jumped off into the dark, swirling vortex. The last thing I saw before the darkness enshrouded me was him, leaning out over the cliff, his arm outstretched as if to grab me, his mouth open and shouting my name in horror - "Emily! No!"

The "inside" of the vortex was just as swirly and violet and black as on the outside. I fell onto what felt like a cold glass floor, so clean I couldn't see it at all. As I raised my head, still lying down, to look around, tiny, floating, red lights lit up, as if lighting the sides of a path. I got to my feet, following the path - which, I found out, actually was a path, since I didn't fall off and outside of the lights there was no floor. Then I slipped. Sliding down a hill that you can't see is terrifying - almost as terrifying as walking on something you can't see. I finally slid onto a huge glass platform. I heard something and turned around to see the red lights behind me going out. A few seconds later, I heard a sound like glass crashing and breaking. I turned again to follow the new path that had just lit up before me. This path was wider, but I still felt my way around carefully. It felt very weird to feel around like that when there was light enough to see.

Eventually, I reached what could be called a "throne room." Huge, looming, grotesque statues leered at me from on the other side of the dim, red lights that lit my way. At the end of the "room" was a throne of sorts. It was black - and therefore very hard to see - with gold edges, and empty. A chill swept past me as a cloud of darkness gathered on the throne to assume the form of a very large creature - if it weren't for the hugeness, blackness, horns, and claws, I would have thought it was a person. I watched it warily and studied it.
"Very few mortals survive in this place," a cold, stony voice came from the shadow-man.
