Red Eagle

A5
Red Eagle is not really a pride name in the traditional sense. It is not "Red Eagle Pride" for instance. They are merely the pride which resides in the land of Red Eagle. The land around as far as the eye can see is named Red Eagle as it is a base translation of the name of an old guide of the lions. When Sabira came across the territory, she was graced by the vision of the Red Eagle looking around, approving of the land. The pride has yet to give itself a true name. For now, they just call themselves the Pride of Red Eagle - their home.

A8
The emblem or symbol of the pride would of course encompass the name of the deity the founder Sabira holds so close to her. It would be a red coloured bird of prey, with a large redwood tree branching out behind the soaring bird. This symbol is to show the deity of the pride, as well as showing that although they live in the desert, the pride grows and stands strong like the redwoods that can be found in their territory.

Territory

A1
Image
Image

A2
Deep within the dense forest, lies a clearing. The ground slowly turns from grass to sand, with shrubs and bushes interspersed (like the texan desert.) In the centre of this sandy clearing is the mouth of a ravine. The ravine’s walls slope down in a steep manner - making it impossible for most, if not all, animals to climb. There is however a slope of jutting out stone and sandstone - still difficult to traverse but not for the inhabitants of this territory. This is where the pride makes their home. The different levels make for different paths to walk around the circumference of their territory, and one or two of the dens are actually natural tunnel systems which lead to caves further away from the main area. They have control however of the entire surrounding forest. Spread throughout the forest there are smaller, much shallower crevices in the ground - the pride use these for different things such as a dumping area for unwanted bones from prey. The valley in which the clearing is based, is surrounded by slightly higher plateaus of land. The forest gets more dense the closer it gets to the clearing, but the trees are sparse as you get further to the higher bits of land around. The entire land overall, both in territory and far outside of it, is a mixture of desert grass, sand and dust.

The climate is sort of like african plains - It’s mostly a decently warm temperature, not hot enough to cause serious discomfort but still hot enough that the terrain around is similar to a desert of sorts. Though the nights are nice and cool. It can get overbearingly hot during the summer season - but living in a subterranean cave system keeps a comfortable cool temperature. The winter months however, are quite different. It gets to a much colder temperature and snow is not too rare of an occurrence. There isn’t a definitively defined time of particularly dry seasons or rainy seasons, though it has been known to have some dangerously dry and rainy spells, there doesn't seem to be a particular pattern to them. The rain that does occur will usually drain through the compact sand floor of the ravine, though it can make the rocky inclines that lead in and out of the ravine a little slippery.

Flora and Fauna

A21
Image
Bombelion - A common weed, much like a dandelion, which grows solitary in the desert- the petals are a mix of neutral blues, yellows and oranges. During autumn, the bombelion will turn to seed - any movement or brushing against it will cause all of the seeds to explode outwards, picking up into the wind and then floating through the air.

Axehead Plant - This plant doesn't have the usual fully formed leaves you see with most other plants. Instead, half of the leaf is split in half with a sharp point to it, much like the shape of an axe. This is not a weed, it's a more lush plant that prefers rain to heat, but is able to withstand the temperatures of the climate around Red Eagle. This plant grows no flowers, the leaves however can obtain a colourful stripe if the conditions are right.

Scytheweed - Named for its shape akin to a scythe. The leaves curl round in a rather menacing manner. It is striped with lighter green, but also has striped of red in. This may be a natural indicator of it's poisonous irritants that it secretes through the pores of each leaf.

The territory is populated by prey and predator alike, though the animals are quite varied due to the variety of environments nearby.
The prey usually consists of rabbits, mink, boar, many different Cervidae, giraffes, and sometimes younger elephants. Though fish is not uncommon for a lion to catch.
The predators, or threats of the pride, are normally: Hyenas, other large cat species, bears, and gorillas are not uncommon to find near the borders of the territory.
There is quite a wide selection of species that can be found in the area of Red Eagle, as there are a few different - but not vastly different - environments around the outskirts, such as a jungle not too dissimilar to an African rainforest, or high mountains whose peaks can collect snow.
Despite the larger prey being an option, the pride actually prefer to hunt smaller creatures - they're faster to collect and there's lots of them (rabbits usually have a big overpopulation issue). The pride will hunt smaller animals - as well as larger - and add them to a pile in the territory for the pride to pick at.

A9
The pride's biggest threat could be a few things. Another pride for example could ambush them - though they have Templars keeping watch, Sabira likes to keep the pride as open to newcomers as possible, so they aren't overly offensive or defensive, therefore prides looking for new territory or looking to attack them would be relatively easy for them to sneak under the radar if they send a lion to front as prideless, or just a friendly visitor. Other threats could include whatever might be able to enter through the anomalies that have been popping up around the pride's territory. They have no idea what the anomalies are, though one idea is a portal; so therefore anything could come through and attack the pride. As well as this, dragons exist in this world. Though rare, not seen for a while, dragons are huge and deadly and could very well be a huge threat if one passed by. There are a few dragon skeletons around that well-travelled lions have seen, but there's no telling if any are still alive or not. Therefore, there's no way to defend against dragons preemptively, and they could cause massive amounts of destruction.

A10
The pride's biggest strength is that their camp is made in a deep rift in the ground. The path in and out is not carved out to be smooth, so it's a little difficult to traverse if you aren't well versed with the rocky steps. That path is the only visible entrance, so any attackers would find it difficult to get into the camp.
The pride's biggest weakness is that they are very welcoming to newcomers, so although they have Templars to keep watch - they are inviting, which means that at any time, they could be double crossed and attacked by another pride or a rogue lion.

A14
The pride lets cubs be cubs for a little while. They allow cubs to be inquisitive and aspirational, to watch other members of the pride and see how they do their own jobs, as well as play. However, when they come to a certain age, they start to be taught how to different roles in the pride. They are mainly taught hunting techniques and fighting techniques, but they are also observed and talked to to see what they are most interested in. If a lion seems more interested and skilled in the knowledge of medicinal herbs and healing methods, then they will be trained as an Ovate. Generally, Squires are able to pick what role they want to have at the end of their Squirehood, but they are nudged towards a specific role depending on what skills they have shown during training. If a Squire shows exceptional skills for both hunting and fighting together, they will be nudged towards Templar.

A19
Battle traditions greatly depend on the individual lion. For example, if a lion is spiritual or religious in any way, then they will pray to their deity before a fight. Or if they feel in the mood for it, they will do warpaint. Generally, with the Red Eagle being the prides' main deity, they will ask the Red Eagle for luck, strength and stamina in the fight.
Warpaint is an option that a lot of lions take up in the pride. The paint is usually applied in certain patterns, such as; swirls, triquetras, celtic knots, moons, the awen symbol (generally just any symbol which represents druidry or celtic history). Sometimes, during a battle, music will be played or a song will be sung; it'll be upbeat tunes to get everyone energised and ready for the fight. After a battle, the pride will usually hold a big ceremony which includes a lot of music and a big dance outside of the main camp - there will be woven flower headbands and neck wreaths made by any lion who wishes to make some, and lions will use this ceremony to exchange wreaths with a lion they may have a crush on and they can admit their feelings.

A25
The most common natural disaster in the pride's territory is a forest fire. As the desert land is quite dry, and there are quite a few redwood trees around, fires can start quite easily. They can also spread quite quickly and become very dangerous as redwood trees are very tall. The usual response to a forest fire is for a patrol to go out and organise things; some of them will split off to go into the depths of the fire and escort or carry out any animals who need help - usually tree-dwellers such as types of monkeys, birds or koalas. The rest of the patrol will go and gather the elephants together, who will then go to the nearest source of water - suck up the water and travel to the forest fire, where they will spray the water out over the flames. The lions escorting the elephants will carry small supplies of water in woven baskets and bags so that the elephants don't have to travel all the way back to the river to top up unless absolutely necessary. Together, all animals in the Red Eagle territory will work to help each other out and stop the forest fire.

A30
Romantic relationships are quite strong and important in the pride. If you have a mate, it is normally morally right to stay with that mate for the rest of both of your lives, unless it is agreed upon to separate. One time flings can happen but it is not common, and it is quite looked down upon to have a one time fling when already in a relationship - it's just quite rude that you would say you're in love and then betray that lion. There is a form of marriage that can happen, though it's not too common as mates usually just accept they want to be mates for life. Marriage ceremonies are akin to celebrations after a battle or on a solstice, where the pride will dance, play music and eat good food. However, a druid - either chosen by the lions getting bonded, or the eldest and wisest druid - will hold the bonding ceremony.

The Pride

A7
As the territory that the pride has made their home in is a majority of vast desert plains, there isn't much variety in hunting methods. For the main source of prey, an example being the grazing herds such as the wildebeest, the usual method of the hunt is to chase it down, lions on each side - chasing until it runs out of stamina or until they're able to catch up, then they take it down as a group.
The pride are also known to fish in the nearby river, though this is done less as a group and more as each individual fishes and they join their winnings together.
Sometimes, the pride will hunt for snakes around rocks - their affinity and skill at climbing in and out of their home making for a skilful hunt over the rocks.
They also use the rocks as propulsion to leap from when hunting birds. Though other than all of that, they don't do any really interesting or unique hunting techniques; the territory is something a lot of lions live in and are used to, so there's not much need to employ any different styles to hunt pray more accurately, especially as the land is so flat and wide.

A8
The pride's emblem would of course be that of a hawk, though it would incorporate some swirls. This is because of the deity Red Eagle who is very close with the pride's founder, he is practically a representive of the pride. The swirls would be incorporated because of the druidic symbolism that is within the pride.

The Pride - Beliefs

A3
The pride holds one value above all else, a value held high by the founder herself and kept as a big moral point for the pride, as they are a group brought together through lions wandering through the territory; whether by chance or on purpose, there are a lot of different characters, through personality and looks alike. So therefore, the value they hold high is family allegiance. They are accepting of all walks of like and all type of folk who wander through. Sabira holds no discriminatory views when inviting new members into her pride, and she makes sure that all members hold that same unbiased view, and if they don't then she will have a talking to. The pride is indiscriminate of anyone who they come across; which also means they've made acquaintances or friends with other groups of animals nearby (even the prey, they are on a respectable level with) such as with the herds of elephants who pass through, or the troops of gorillas in the jungle nearby. It is also why they accept any large cat into their pride, lion or not. If they need help or a home, then anyone is welcome into Red Eagle.

A4
The pride are welcoming of anyone mostly; their pride is a ragtag group of characters, and so they stay open minded and unbiased towards anyone. They try to be friendly and not so quick to judge or be on the offensive, and so they have quite a few allegiances with different animals.
For example, a patrol led the way into the nearby jungle for the first time to gather herbs and they met a patrol of gorillas, talking with them and helping them battle an enemy; they became friends, and then allegiances with the troop of gorillas itself. The pride isn't really that close to many prides, so they don't have many pridal allegiances, however; Summitfall pride is a distant pride that is an allegiance, as Aisling has found a mate with a lion there called Hemai. They sometimes travel the long distance to meet each other (usually Aisling more than Hemai), and though the prides are quite far apart, they have generally a good relationship. The pride are very welcoming and friendly, so as long as there's been nothing aggressive or offensive to happen, then they will be open to allegiances with near anyone who is also reciprocating that interest.
.
A6
Most of the prides around believe in multiple different deities. Some more seemingly malevolent than others, some who wish only for good, and some who are merely there to overlook. Sabira seemingly brought her own deity with her when she founded the pride in the valley of Red Eagle (so named after said deity); he watched over her to begin with, as he does now with the pride settled in the valley. Not many have seen him, though the pride do generally unanimously believe in him. He is seen as one who watches over the pride and keeps them safe - especially since no real danger has reached them thus far. There are a few other gods that lions believe in, ones that are usually of specific import, such as a deity who blesses the land so the animals - both prey and predator alike - can thrive, or a deity who provide strength where there is courage, and blesses you with power in battle. Though these are generally less-supported in the pride, there are some lions who come to the pride with an already pre-existing belief of a different deity to the Red Eagle, or some lions have no pre-existing belief at all.

A20
Within the pride, there are 2 main seasonal celebrations; the Summer Solstice and the Winter Solstice. The summer solstice is celebrated through a large fire, set safely in a large area of desert with nothing flammable nearby. Lions will dance if they can, and host a big feast round the fire, large piles of meat and fish to indulge on. The Winter Solstice is celebrated with less energy than the Summer; there is a communal meeting in the base of the pride's home, everyone will sit - sometimes snuggle up close - and talk. Usually what is discussed, is what the pride are thankful for, and what they hope for next year. More rustic vegetation such as berries, herbs and mushrooms are eaten at this time, and they watch the night sky rather than setting up a fire. Other celebrations the pride have are agedays, a day celebrated when a lion has aged up a full cycle of the seasons, a coming of age ceremony where the squires can be given full pride roles. Most celebrations cause for a pride gathering hosted by the founder, and sometimes a celebratory hunt; to get the finest meat they can for the pride to eat and celebrate with.

A18
When a lion comes of age, they hold a night of silence the night before that day. They will usually sit out at the top of the pride's home, keeping watch alongside whichever Templar's are watching the territory that night, and will stay that way until morning. The founder will call a pride meeting; where the pride will stand under the 2nd floor of the rift under the founder's watchful gaze. The Squire will be called up to stand with the founder over the pride, where the founder will announce the lion's successful night of silent watch and give them a role in the pride. This role is determined based on skills shown by that lion through their training as a Squire, and the natural abilities of the lion; if they are faster than most, then a wanderer role will be more likely to be given, where as bigger lions or lions with more strength will be Knights. A good balance of those can be Templars. Though no roles require any specific skills of course. Then, once the role has been decided, the lion will join a patrol to hunt, where they will show off their skills as their new role and just enjoy the hunt.

Sabira Prompts

P17
Sabira doesn't view herself in an overly positive or too negative way. She knows she has her flaws and faults - everyone does - for example, she wishes she had the bravery to say "no" more often. She is a very giving person and though it's counted normally as a negative trait; she wished to be a little more selfish - only for her own mental health. But as the Pride's founder and current stand-in leader, she needs to keep the selflessness up. Though she does like to consider herself a better leader than that of her family's old pride. As a cub, she watched her leader make many a brash decision without truly thinking it through - he would initiate a war without much of a second thought or consideration of a more diplomatic solution. Sabira aimed to not be like that, and she prided herself on her friendlier and more thoughtful leadership.

Lumis

P7

Lumis is generally a masculine name, It means "from the place by the pool". Her parents named her this because of where she was born, by the water's edge. It is generally quite accurate towards her character; she would consider herself a bit of a "tomboy", with a more bold and forward personality than some might expect from a lioness. However, the only accurate factor about her name is her birthplace. She has no real connection with water, her name was not too thought out by her parents - it was just a nice name they settled on to help her remember her roots.

P11
Image

S8
Image

D14
Image
The Fox - Lumis is cunning, she is honest but sly and able to talk her way through things with a smooth tongue.
The Sunlit Woods - Lumis's name sounds a little bit like light, like the light through the trees in this image. She also has similar colours, and her personality is quite bright which suits the photo well.
The Sparking Fire - Again, Lumis is quite bright and fiery, in an intriguing and beautiful way, like this pretty photo of a flame.
The Book - Lumis is honest at heart. She prefers bluntness and honesty, like an open book. She will be an open book to you if you are to her.
The Match - Despite the smoke indicating the flame has gone out, she's still burning - she will keep burning with optimism.
Kingfishers - Indicates her speed, both physically and also her quick wits.
Creek - A symbol of the meaning of her name.
The Sunrise - A colour aesthetic
The Misty Bridge - Lumis enjoys the fog and mist. It provides a comforting closeness. Things hide in the fog; she also enjoys hiding in the fog.

P17
Lumis believes she's generally an honest and quite a nice person. She seems to be liked by everyone, and she whittles that down to her confidence and forwardness in conversations. White lies and skirting around the truth is a sure way to make an unstable friendship, whereas she is able to form strong bonds from the get-go because she isn't afraid to tell it how it is. Lumis knows she is good at interaction, and is also good at getting what she wants. There's not many flaws she sees in herself, perhaps none at all? But she doesn't let anything get to her head - her being humble as well as confident within herself means she is a fine person to be friends with.

Re: Red Eagle - Ashari

Postby Nia The Elf » Thu Jul 09, 2020 8:54 am

Ashari

P7
Ashari doesn't have a set specific meaning, and the origin is unknown. However it is speculated that it could mean "Strong and free willed". Ashari would be considered a free spirit - she likes to be creative, relax, and doesn't make plans - she moreso goes with the flow. She is also strong, having been given the role of Paladin, to mentor younger lions and act as a role model for the pride; she has to be strong to fight and help others learn to fight.

P5
Ashari fears that the pride will lose their respect for her. She loves her position in the pride; she is appreciated for her creativity - decorating the sandstone walls of their home with skillful carvings, and she is also respected for her reliability - always there to lend a hand, carrying through with her task no matter what. It was why Sabira gave her the role of Paladin - a mentor, a lion of exceptional inspiration to those younger and in training. Ashari doesn't really have any goals, the pride is her main priority and so losing her place of respect and appreciation amongst the pride is the thing she fears the most.

P6
Ashari wouldn't consider dreams or goals a big part of her life. She is very much content where she is and doesn't spend time dreaming of much else. However, she does love entertaining cubs - its a big part of why she keeps drawing and carving in the sand of their dens, the younger lions of the pride love to watch her create something from absolutely nothing. And Ashari adores spending the time doing this with them. Cubs are innocent and precious, full of love and awe for everything around them. Ashari's greatest dream is to one day find a mate to settle with, and start a family. She has always been good with cubs, and enjoys being around them. Maybe soon she would have a chance for her own.

P11
Image

D14
Image
The Carvings - Reflecting Ashari's creativity and ability to carve patterns and illustrations into the ground and walls of her pride's home.
The Swan Family - She's quite motherly, works very well with cubs and has strong maternal instincts. She longs to be a mother herself.
The Overgrowing Tree - Quite connected with nature, Ashari prefers a more natural look to anything. It's mainly just her own aesthetic.
The Budding Branch - Ashari is like a new bloom, she's quite delicate but also resilient - she keeps growing and brings a brighter spring with her.
The Apple - I headcanon her voice/personality to be like that of Snow White from Once Upon A Time, so the Apple is a symbol of that.
The Grasshopper - He is unstable on that stem, reflecting how Ashari feels quite often.
The Rain - A reflection of how she views herself sometimes.
The Blue Sky - It's bright, like how others view Ashari - a contrast to her own views.
The Moon - A colour aesthetic

Ashari is not confident within herself. She wouldn't consider herself to be a perfect person by all means - she sees a lot of flaws in herself. She believes she is lazy, for preferring to decorate the dens than go out and hunt. She also believes she is undeserving of her role as Paladin; Just because she was one of the only Lions in the pride at the time, it wasn't like she proved herself to get the role. It was more of a pity-gift, since she was only good for one thing. And she recognised her gift in this; entertaining the cubs. A handful to struggle with, but one of Ashari's only true gifts is to keep them at bay. They enjoy her company and find her fun, even if she doesn't view herself in that same positive light.
