S1: Leto finds treasure - 633/500 - 2 points

Postby -Isabella- » Wed Jun 24, 2020 4:28 am

The treasure of Agnar. Leto was almost tense with anticipation. Everyone knew the store.
Agnar had been the chief, the king of his pride. A mighty leader who sailed the seas and conquered many lands. He had been brave, cunning, strong, none had ever defeated him.

He gathered riches from every land he conquered, building up a vast store of wealth. But for all his greatness, his luck did eventually run out. A storm at sea sunk his ship, and his most recently acquired treasured with it.
When he died his sons fought over his land and remaining wealth. They fought so long and so hard that by the time they were through all but two had died and the wealth had been spent on battles.

With nothing left the lands Agnar had conquered eventually made their way into new paws while the brothers managed to keep only a portion of it. In time even that portion was taken from them, and it became The Empire.
Leto herself had been born into the empire created after the fall of Agnar’s sons. But she had never like the way of life she was born into.

Her mother was a noble, and expected her to act as one. But her father was only a soldier, so while she was expected to play the part of a noble lioness, she was no better than a common lion really. She couldn’t inherit a title or much wealth from her mother.
But now she had a chance to change things. Now someone was looking for Agnar’s treasure, and Leto was as capable of sailing as any lion thanks to her father.

She would leave immediately before the news spread too far, hoping to get a head start. With the reward for finding the treasure she could build a new life. One of her choosing.

So Leto set out, hiring a small crew and taking her boat, the only thing of real worth she owned.

For many months she sailed the sea, trying to pinpoint the exact location of the wreck. When it had happened all those years ago some of the treasure had been found and claimed, so Leto would avoid the areas that had already been searched then for now.

First she and her crew dove beneath the water, carefully fastened to the ship with ropes and with another couple crew members watching. But their diving produced no treasure.

Next she landed at the nearest chain of islands and began the long search over the land. The first two islands yielded nothing, but when she reached the third her luck changed.
On the first day there she found some old jewelry, half buried in the dirt. Then she found broken vase, and at last the rest of the treasure.
It had washed onto the shore from the sea, entering a small pool fed by a stream coming in from the sea. The small inlet was mostly hidden by overgrown trees and bushes. Nearly invisible even from the sea.

But within it hid all that had remained of Agnar’s treasure. It must’ve been worth a king’s ransom the crew said! And that was when Leto had a thought. Why return it all to those who searched for it…when she could keep it all? After all, she was only offered a portion of its total worth as a reward for finding it.
But she had done all the work, why shouldn’t she keep it? Those who looked for it weren’t even related to Agnar so had no better claim to it than anyone else.
Her mind made up Leto brought the treasure back to her ship and sailed away, not returning to the Empire with it, but instead looking for new shores where she might find a new beginning.

S3: Leader of Nothing - 969/500 - 2 Points

Postby -Isabella- » Wed Jun 24, 2020 4:29 am

"We cannot give in!"

Maiara looked around the circle of lions gathered before her, feeling the tension of their fear and anger. As Sitara it was her duty to make this decision with their help, but there was no right way to do it. Either way they might be in trouble, and she had to choose one way or another....

Her mind went back to the previous day when one of the outer villages reported that strangers had found them, and entered their lands. Such a feat shouldn't have been so easy. Or at least they shouldn't have gone undetected as long as they did. But there was no use looking back on what should have been, or what ifs.
They were here now and requesting, all but demanding, a marital alliance. To refuse was to risk every village, all of the tribe. But to accept was to lose one of their own, and risk her abilities being discovered.

And for Maiara, it would be to lose a daughter. The thought broke her heart, but the other pride would accept no less than a member of royalty, and the daughters of the Sitara were as close to royalty as they would get.
But could she really send one of her own daughters off to an unknown fate? And yet, if she didn't, could she bare the danger it might bring down on them all if the other pride chose to start a war?

"My lady, we are waiting," someone hissed, jolting Maiara out of her thoughts.

"I need a moment with my daughters, if you will excuse me." She bowed her head slightly then turned to go, leaving the clearing beneath the trees and going to her own chambers in the great tree where her daughters waited.

Her oldest, Nesrin, stood quietly but tensely as she awaited her mother while the younger, Airi, had been lingering near her sister.

"What do they say mother?" Nesrin asked as soon as she appeared.

"Most think we should take our chances, but some thing we should attempt to smooth things over now with the alliance, before there is trouble."

"But, to go away, to a foreign place..." Nesrin glanced at her sister, ear twitching.

"What do you think is best, mother?" Airi questioned.

Maiara had to think a moment before saying carefully, "I think to risk war is a very dangerous thing. We could lose a lot, if not everything. Our tribe might never really be the same again."

"But they didn't specifically say they would fight us if there was no alliance, and I thought keeping our secrets was the most important thing," Nesrin countered.

"It is important daughter, always. But...I have seen the king, and his council members. I do believe we would pay for not forming this alliance."

"So you want us to give in to their demands?" Nesrin seemed disbelieving. "We are a strong tribe Mother! We could protect ourselves and our secrets. We should not give in to the desires of foreigners."

"It is not giving in if we are simply taking action wisely to protect our tribe."

Nesrin didn't seem convinced or pleased still and as Maiara looked at Airi she could tell her youngest didn't like seeing them argue. While the three of them were close Nesrin and Maiara clashed more often than Airi and Maiara did. Perhaps it was because Nesrin was so determined and eager to help the tribe move forward into the future. Or perhaps it was simply their differing personalities.

"Mother, if you feel you must do this, I will go," Airi finally said, her voice soft but never wavering.

"Are you sure?" Maiara felt a prick of guilt, finding that she had hoped Airi would not be the one to go. But it was not that she loved her more, but she was the youngest and so sweet and good-natured. Maiara had always wanted to keep her close.

"I am mother." Airi didn't say so, but she knew her sister was too strong willed to do well in a foreign pride where she might be expected to behave within certain perimeters.

"Very well, then I will inform the Elder Council." The Sitara left the room then, leaving the sisters alone.

"Airi, are you sure?" Nesrin looked at her sister, worry clouding her gaze.

"I am, sister. Better me than you. Besides, I always wanted to see different places." She forced a small smile, pushing aside her trepidation for now.

"I love you sister." Nesrin leaned to hug her and Airi hugged her in return, squeezing her eyes shut tightly and making herself memorize the feel of her sister's hug.

With little fanfare Airi was sent away in the next few days with the other pride who promised she might visit sometime. But once she was gone the Sitara questioned her decision and grieved her absence more and more as time passed.
The Elder Council began to doubt her ability to rule, so before long they insisted she step down.

Under the new Sitara things had settled again, but the scandal of the first Sitara in years to be forced to step down, and the arguing and conflicts surrounding the event, lived on in rumors and whispers spread around the court and villages.

Meanwhile Nesrin attempted to become the next Sitara but was found unfit, so her cousin Thalia took the position instead and Nesrin determined to try to find her sister.

And Airi, well she was never allowed to return to her family to visit. Instead she was drawn into the politics and danger of her new pride, and before long any hope or thought of returning home herself was gone, leaving her just hoping her own cubs might one day see her home and maybe find some peace there.

Re: S3: Foreign Marriage - 513/500 - 2 Points

“You cannot send her away she is young yet!” Airi’s protests fell on deaf ears as the king shrugged off her concern with an annoyed look.
“She is old enough. I must continue making alliances for the pride if all is going to come out well.”
“You should not use her to do it!” In her concern Airi didn’t think about trying to speak softly or be diplomatic, her frustration showing clearly.
“Do not tell me what I should, or should not do,” he responded, his tone dangerously even. “I am the king. I know what is best for my pride and my daughter.”
Airi could tell she was pushing him. Too far perhaps. But she dared one more question. “Why this one then? She favored the last suitor, so why overlook him for this one?”
“He had nothing to offer in comparison to what I already have. This king had strength on his side, as well as more advanced processes of doing things from what I hear.”
“But will he be good to her?”
The king shrugged just barely. “I have heard nothing of this pride being a dangerous one to its own members. Nthanda is well trained. She will know how to manage herself. And if we’re lucky how to manage him as well.”
Airi felt a growing discomfort, concerned that the king was going to be trying to use his daughter for more than a simple alliance. “But-“
“No more!” The king turned on her suddenly, his eyes bright with his anger. “I know what is best, I know what must be done and I will not have you questioning me. Now leave. I must speak to the others.”
In an instant his rage was gone as he settled back into his usual, unsettling calm, his fur resting smoothly.
Airi dared not push him further so left quietly.

“But…we have remained hidden so long, is it not dangerous to become known now?” The advisor who spoke seemed hesitant, not sure how the king might respond.
“Why do you think it poses a danger of becoming too known?” King Chikondi asked calmly.
“I...well it is a large kingdom. I’m not so sure that we wish the princess to become well known as queen of a large kingdom when she is so clearly connected to us.”

“I don’t know about we, but I think this alliance is more important than any risk of becoming better known. It’s may be a big step, but I believe the pride is ready.”
“But, might we not be better prepared if we...wait?” One advisor suggested.
“If I thought we should wait, I would not have entertained the champion king’s offer. I believe this is our best course of action, and I will not withdraw the offer.”
No one spoke again at first then, though a couple advisors still seemed uncertain about the idea.
When no one spoke King Chikondi stood. “If that is all, I’ll be going.” Without waiting for anyone to speak he stood and left, leaving the advisors to think over the issue.

Prompts for Amore X Taimo Breeding - 8 Points

Postby -Isabella- » Tue Jul 21, 2020 7:08 am

(Finish by July 29th!)

S4 -Write about one lion’s feelings towards parenthood. What do they want for their cubs? What are their fears and worries? How do they discipline their little ones when they misbehave? What would make them proud of them? Or disappointed? - 518/500 word minimum - 2 point

When Circe discovered she was expecting cubs she was more than a little nervous. Her father would not approve, and the nobility would likely whisper and point. As a princess she was expected to marry the lion of her father's choice and produce heirs. But instead she had chosen a lion her father would never approve of, and now she was going to have cubs.

During the time approaching their birth she was often alone, and it left her with a lot of time to think about the cubs and how she wanted to raise them. She knew that if possible she wanted them to enjoy freedoms she never had. She never wanted them to feel trapped or like they had to live the life someone else had planned for them.
Nor did she want them to grow up feeling like they were nothing more than an accident or mistake. She knew other lions might look on them in such a way, or treat them poorly because of the circumstances of their birth, so she didn't want to do anything to add to it.

She wanted them to be well educated but also kind, compassionate, and courteous, brave but also wise. Circe wanted them to be able to navigate the difficulties of being in court, around the politics and intrigue surrounding the throne. But she also wanted them to be just as capable of mingling with the lower ranking lions in the kingdom. She didn't want them to be cruel or take advantage of those who had less than them as far as possessions or freedom.

Of course she wanted them to overall be decent young lions with a sense of right and wrong, and she would do her best to teach them those things. She didn't want them getting dragged into the warped sense of justice that existed in her home pride.

And while she might dislike having to do it she'd certainly punish them for the things they did wrong if necessary. Most likely some loving but firm conversations and possibly some extra chores would be the go to for any kind of punishment. She'd never physically hurt them as punishment but she knows that it's important to teach them right and wrong, and responsibility when they are young.

Despite having not planned to have them, as the time comes for them to be born Circe is finding that more and more she is excited to be a mother. Even though she was more or less banished for her 'indiscretion' she doesn't think it will be so bad, living quietly away from the other royals and raising her cubs away from her father's controlling habits and the harsh eye of the other nobility.
It sounds like the quiet kind of life that she might have always longed for deep down, even if she will miss getting a chance to do some traveling and see more places.
But even if she is stuck here she hopes her cubs will get the chance to branch out and see new places in the future when they are old enough.

S4 -Write about one lion’s feelings towards parenthood. What do they want for their cubs? What are their fears and worries? How do they discipline their little ones when they misbehave? What would make them proud of them? Or disappointed? - 501/500 word minimum - 2 point

Subira didn't plan on having cubs. She always assumed she'd have to marry for convenience and raise cubs as everyone else would expect her to.
Then she met him. They were both wanderers, having left their prides to see some more of the world despite the disapproval of others. They found they had some things in common, and he decided to stick around a while.
Of course, neither of their prides would approve of the union, so they parted ways.

Upon coming home Subira discovered she was expecting. She knew that wouldn't go over well with the pride, but she managed to escape any terrible punishment.

Instead she was left to plan the raising of her cubs with no one to really help her or share their wisdom.

But from the beginning she was determined to raise them right. She wanted her cubs to know the truths of the world, how to survive and make their own way without having to rely on others. She didn't want them to ever feel helpless or like they had to depend on others to take care of them.
She knew all too well how good it could feel to be self-sufficient.

But of course she still intended to give them all the love and care she could in their younger years. She always wanted them to know they were loved and that she had their back whatever happened.

She was ready to protect them against any threat, and she did worry that threats might arise. The pride might not take kindly to protecting her fatherless cubs. And some might not be happy that her royal cubs might present any threat to the king's heirs. So she knew she would have to be careful and ready for anything.

It was a dangerous place she was raising her cubs in, but Subira was determined to keep them safe whatever it took. Before they were even born they became her main focus, her life really.

She knew she might not ever be really truly prepared for them to be born, but she wanted to do the best she could to be as prepared as possible when the time did come.

Some lions seemed to think her cubs should be punished for her boldness in coming back here, but Subira knew she would never let that happen. If her cubs did something wrong after they were born she would punish them of the course, but she would not allow anyone else to punish them for something that was in no way their fault and anyone who tried would live to regret it.

If her cubs grew to be confident individuals who could take care of themselves in every sense and in different situations Subira would be very proud indeed. Not because it would be some accomplishment of hers but because it would mean they would be okay even without her, that they were ready to be on their own in the world whether she was there or not.

Celestia has little to no desire to have cubs. It isn’t that she hates them or anything, cubs themselves aren’t bad. But she hates the idea of being expected to have them, especially with someone not of her own choosing.
Being a princess you’d think she would have gotten used to the idea from a young age but a rebellious streak in her refused to be suppressed and she has voiced her displeasure at the idea to her family on multiple occasions.

Of course, if she had her own choice of mate she might not mind it so much. If she did have cubs under such circumstances then she could raise them how she wanted and try to give them all she didn’t have.

Some lions might not understand that idea, as she is a princess and therefore has more than the average lion in terms of material possessions or a voice in society, but what Celestia might really long for is some peace and privacy, and the power to make her own choices. And that is what she would want for her cubs.
She knows how hard it can be to grow up in the spotlight, so to speak, and she wouldn’t want that for her cubs if she could help it. Having their every move and milestone moment scrutinized by the public, their every mistake judged harshly by strangers.
Celestia isn’t sure she could stand to have other lions constantly watching her and her cubs and judging them and her as a mother. Sometimes she isn’t sure how her own mother has managed it.
And more than that she would like her cubs to have options as to what to do with their lives, especially her daughters. She always felt trapped in the ‘princess’ image, like no matter what else she did she would always still just be a princess and no one would ever see beyond her title. She wouldn’t want her cubs to feel that way so it would be just one more good reason not to have cubs unless she can step back from the royal life somehow.

If she was able to do that she thinks having cubs might almost be nice. She’d love to be able to play with them and tell them stories like her mother did with her when she was a cub. And she would do her best to never do anything to hurt or betray them, and she would find a mate who would do the same.
Ideally they could form a family and it could truly be just them with no one else butting in where they weren’t wanted and offering unsolicited advice or opinions.

It would be her ideal situation but she doesn’t believe she’ll likely get that any time soon if ever so she has resigned herself to the fact that she will likely never have cubs of her own. And if it saves some other lion the troubles she has gone through she thinks it’s all for the best in the end.

Ravi never really thought he would have cubs. As a personal guard to a princess he had a time consuming and at times dangerous job and didn’t think he could make the time to really devote to a mate or family.
For the most part he just accepted that. He never met anyone he could have who made him want to settle down and have cubs anyway.
But then one day he was given the opportunity to adopt a homeless cub, presumably abandoned or orphaned. At first he didn’t think he could. He had never been a father, how could he properly care for a young cub? And a female at that?
But as he observed the helpless cub something gave way and he agreed to take her in
Having never really thought about being a parent before he had a lot of things to work through those first few days with her. Luckily he managed to secure the help of Nthanda who seemed very pleased to help him care for the young cub.

He named her Selene and vowed to do his best to raise her right and be a good father, even with his limited experience.

At first he worried that he wouldn’t have enough time for her and she would feel neglected, but when he couldn’t watch her Nthanda made sure she was taken care of and as she got older she had friends to spend time with and at times could accompany Ravi as he went about his job.

Being a guard Ravi had no real rank or fortune to give Selene. He wanted for nothing but still wasn’t any kind of prince or lord. He knew he could provide her with all the necessities, food, shelter, and clothing. And he was happy to spoil her a little at times with gifts.

It was always important to him that she be well educated as well so with Nthanda’s help he saw to it that she got to learn as much as she could to prepare her for whatever she might want to do in life. He didn’t want her to ever feel trapped into one life, instead raising her to look beyond the obvious limits and let herself dream a little. Of course he also wanted her to learn to be practical too when it was necessary.

At times he did worry she might not fit in well around the palace since he was only a guard and she might often see the princess’s children and some of the children of the nobility of the land. But Nthanda’s children seemed to think well of her and her good temper made her easy enough to like.

Ravi really never had much call to discipline her because she was a relatively quiet little lioness who didn’t push her limits or look for mischief. He was relieved really because as tough as he could be when fighting or protecting the princess or her cubs, he really couldn’t manage to be too harsh with Selene.
