Dutch trotted slowly down his normal trail, hair waving in the gentle wind fluttering around him. He snorted slightly at the chill, dark eyes scanning the terrain around him with disinterest. It was the same trail that he went down each day. It was the same area that he knew by heart at this point. Everything was the same and it was absolutely boring to him. Some days he would have a friend come with him so that he had someone to interact with but, today, nobody had time to venture out today.
The stallion was prized and, though trained, acted mostly as a trophy. He didn't have much to do besides some pulling at times and being shown off. Most days, Dutch was just allowed free roam. Not like he would try to venture out into the wild. The pampered life was boring yet enjoyable. The large stallion huffed slightly, stomping a hoof on the ground harder than what he had been walking at. A tiny cloud of dust particles rose up from his foot, brushing against the long fur of his hock before settling back down onto the ground. He wanted something interesting today. Absolutely anything would do for him.
Luckily, he should be careful of what he wished for.
It wasn't moments later of him being still standing that a sudden gust of wind brought a new scent to his nostrils. Confused, the black stallion raised his head and let his ears flip around slightly. He was used to this large property, used to the land; no scents would stand out as interesting to him. But this one did. A sudden wave of curiosity pulsed through him, making him swish his tail and slowly head off in the direction that the scent was coming from. Dutch had no idea what he was in for, following a strange scent that just suddenly showed up, but he was quite ready to find out if it meant that his early morning run would be meaningful.
Dutch was led far away from his original trail, evidenced by overgrown thorns snagging in his groomed coat, causing disruptions in the flow of his hair. He felt leaves and twigs breaking under his weight. Everything was new to him. Dutch had carved out a trail tailored just for himself and, well, this wasn't it right now.
He snorted in irritation when another branch, loaded with thorns, decided to smack him across the face. He was almost tired of this. Nonetheless, the scent was getting stronger and the overwhelming need to figure out what was at the end of this trail kept him moving forward against the thorns and overgrown greenery. It felt like ages before he was stumbling out into a clearing, nostrils flaring at the overwhelmingly strong scent of something new and lush grass. It didn't take long for the stallion to spot the cause of the strange scent; a small group of horses in the distance.
Dutch didn't want to intrude at all, so opted to standing by his treeline. It looked like a mare and foal. Farther off, he noticed a lurking horse; probably the stallion watching the two. The foal was hopping around what was, presumably, the mother. Dutch found the picture rather enlightening, huffing to himself that it wasn't something dangerous. The mother and foal stayed in the middle for a moment before they finally scented something in the air; probably Dutch. Not long after, they were retreating to the waiting stallion that was looking over at Dutch. They had to do what they had to do, he mused.
Guess that was his bit of interest for the day.

Dutch circled around the property a couple of times, stuck in his own thoughts and processes. He didn't have anything to do, as usual, and was just kind of wading in his own thoughts right now. Night was nearing and he was still trotting around, ears perked up and mane swishing with every jump in his step. There were some lightning bugs fluttering around him, blinking yellow and lighting up the area around him. No matter how many times he had seen the little bugs before, they never ceased to amaze him.
What if he could blink like that? It'd probably be a bad sight, honestly. He's just glowing like crazy because he has no idea what to do and all of that.
The stallion stopped when he heard rustling in the bushes, pulled out of his thoughts like a fish getting reeled from the water. Ears standing alert and body tense, he watched the bushes in question. The leaves and thin branches parted to reveal a raccoon clambering out, crossing his path just to make it to the other sea of bushes and brambles on the other side. Dutch snorted, the raccoon only flicking an ear at him before vanishing into the night. Rude little critters.
Dutch continued on after the minor stopping. The sky was black around him now, stars slowly beginning to freckle the sky above the trees. He started to move slightly faster, worried about the more dangerous critters that would be appearing under the blanket of night now. Cougars and coyotes didn't scare him but both of them could harm him equally if he wasn't careful. In leiu of the darkness, he was extra alert in all senses; ears tilted up, eyes narrowed and nose doing what it usually does. Right now, nothing seemed too out of place.
He started to near an opening in the woods. A tiny little fielded place, tall grass covering the land for a bit before it transformed back into dense woodland. He had gone through this little stretch many times before, the grass always tickling his lower legs. This time he took a little pause, slowing on the trail to a gentle trot. The air was cool and calm in the little meadow and he liked it like that. The vast sea of blackness and stars above him and the cool air around him made for a perfect moment of rest. Naturally, he stared out across the grass to make sure no blades were moving irregularly.
Thankfully, nothing was happening and he didn't catch on to any alarming scents.
The land before him did look oddly beautiful in it's tranquil state. Some lightning bugs floated above all of the grass, adding just enough glow to the area to look pretty. He stared in awe at the area. Something about the change of time in day ended up just making everything more appealing. You see a log during the day? It doesn't look too interesting. At night, though, it looks like the most wonderful log you've ever seen. Dutch nickered slightly, stamping a hoof before continuing on his slow trail.
Night had never been so cool to Dutch before but, on another note, he never had really stopped to look at anything.
