Snow-Rah's ears raised in alarm as the thudding of his patrols' large hind feet echoed loudly. He raced from his resting place at the entrance of the warren and appeared only as a brownish blur streaking through the tall green grass. As he approached though, his friends didn't seem panicked, in fact their hearts beat fast with eagerness, not fear.
"W-..what's this?" Snow spoke, his tone authoritative yet hinted with confusion. Mouse turned to greet his chief and Snow saw excitement glittering in his eyes. "The Emissary!" squeaked the palomino buck, "He's here! He's in Silver Shores!"
Snow's eyes widened and he rushed forward to join Blackberry, who was chattering his whiskers off to the...chipmunk? A million animals flashed through Snow's mind as to who the emissary could be and a chipmunk certainly wasn't among them. The buck cleared his throat and looked down to the small striped creature, smiling warmly in greeting despite his suspicions. "Welcome to Silver Shores, Emissary!" he announced, glancing to Blackberry who could hardly contain his pride. The chipmunk grinned defiantly, somehow sensing Snow's unease.
His whiskers twitched anxiously as he beckoned for the chipmunk to follow him back to the warren. The small creature playfully darted under the rabbits as they ran back, his tiny legs skittering quicker than the eye could see. Blackberry and Mouse hung behind, whispering enthusiastically and Snow felt foolish for being the only one to question this newcomer. Once they'd returned to the warren, there was no stopping the hoard of rabbits gathering around the chipmunk, only elevating his ego more. He repeatedly introduced himself as the Emissary of Frith and Snow simply rolled his eyes and hopped over to his seer, a cream colored doe with toasted brown paws and ear-tips.
"Maple...you didn't tell me the Emissary would be visiting us." The doe looked to him in bewilderment, her jaw slightly ajar, "Well excuse me! I didn't see this event occurring, you know I wouldn't told you.." Her mouth closed again and she looked to the crowd gathered around the chipmunk, irritation hooding her silvery eyes. The rah suddenly felt a pang of guilt and he pushed his nose against her ear, "Sorry...I know you would've said something if you'd seen it."
He still couldn't help but feel unease, even later when he invited the chipmunk to stay in their warren. Of course, his decision was highly pressured by the rest of the colony as well as his own knowledge of the lore. Those warrens whom allow the Emissary of Frith to stay with them shall receive great luck. It was a tale everyone knew, and Snow was aware more than anyone that denying shelter to even a possible Emissary would look bad. Down in the main chamber of the maze of tunnels that made up the Silver Shores Warren, Snow could hear nearly every rabbit chittering and laughing and story-telling while the high pitched chirps of the chipmunk echoed in his ears.
Maple would soon enter his chamber and settle beside him. "It could be worse," she shrugged, "At least he's just a little chipmunk, not like he could do much harm and he certainly doesn't eat much."
"I know.." admitted the rah, glancing sideways to his seer, "It just seems so unreal, I mean a chipmunk of all creatures, hanging the sun??" Disbelief heavily lined his tone, though Maple was right there to reassure him. "Well, couldn't hurt to at least harbor him, just in case," she winked, to which Snow-Rah slowly nodded in reluctant agreement.
