Prompt: While they seem stiff and unwilling, they can be quite openmined around close friends. Random strangers wont get much more than a stern, "Go away," from them, "I'm busy!" Since science takes over their life, they moved out to the empty desert wastelands of Kansas to escape bright city lights and smog. The trigger-happy move caused ruckus in Oxen's life, but her stubbornness causes it to rebound right back. After all, what good is a scientist who gives up on the first round?

Workshop One - Day Two Exercise

Write about a time when your Kalon(s) lost something important or someone close to them: Oxenfree took a leave from their packed city apartment in New York, just so they could follow up on their astronomy career. The sudden move shocked close friends and left with incomplete goodbyes. Oxen lost their one truest friend, a Boston terrier named Sam. Sam went missing two days after Oxen left. He was never found. Oxenfree's life was in shambles. Their emotions were taking over their work and daily chores. They stopped eating, excersizing, and studying. All of the blame mentally was put on themself. The second they leave without a proper goodbye, their life long company vanishes without a trace. Eventually, Oxenfree went to therapy to get back on track. Years went by, yet the thought of Sam's current whereabouts bring shivers to Ox, even to this day.

Do they keep promises, or break them? Why? That varies from person to person. Oxenfree is a strong believer in karma, so if someone has hurt them, spilling a couple hint here and there isn't too hard. When a close friend vents personal problems, she locks them away and offers them help. Not that she's a great physiatrist, but she knows bits and bobs. Maybe it's because she had hurt herself so terribly after Sam, she doesn't want anyone down that road again.
Are they a leader, follower, or loner? Why? On impulse, Oxenfree would much rather work alone. They trust themselves much more than any other. When being a loner isn't an option, they have to confirm temporarily. Surprisingly, they don't take control like one would think. They don't want the blame of not controlling a squad of irresponsible, young scientists when they knock of the Empire State Building! They lack good leadership skills anyway. They yell, even if they not mad, only because of their strange impulses. They try to make complex plans no one can understand instead of going with the flow. They aren't flexible, to say the least.
If they could change one thing in their past, what would it be and why? Oxenfree wouldn't have left New York. They would have stayed with Sam just a little while longer. Maybe he wouldn't have disappeared. Ox only thinks the worst when they think of what happened. Was he kidnapped? Did he get an unknown disease and die? If they had stayed even two weeks longer, or planned the move, maybe he'd still write letters and call.
Do they care what others think of them? Why or why not? No, why should they? Others words shouldn't effect her behavior, to an extent, of course. Works are just sound. They don't hurt you, or kill you. Ox doesn't want to get caught up on the little things when they're aim is for the moon.
Do they tend to argue with others or do they avoid conflict? While avoiding arguments would be ideal, Oxen can get quite a ruckus started. They don't understand keeping you opinions to yourself, so many coworkers and acquaintances get caught in a swirl of vile words and, if you're unlucky, a fist or two.
Are they more spontaneous, or are they the type that always needs a plan? Plans, plans, plans! If there isn't a plan for almost everything, almost everything is incomplete! Planning is fun as well. Knowing the exact time Ox be excites them! If everyone kept true to the plans they'd make, everything would function at max capacity.
Do they have any quirks, mannerisms, habits, or other defining characteristics? Quite a few, actually. Oxenfree struggles to work while others are goofing off. Their mind tells them, "If they can goof off, so can we, right?" This leads to half-naked work. Ox also used obscure adjectives frequently as they speak. If you don't have a dictionary on hand, you're in for a struggle. Only for fun, Oxen has picked up knitting needles, and it's quite good at it! They make sweaters for their friends and pet rat, Dolly. He doesn't use them as sweaters, though. He merely chews through them and adds to his blanket pile.

Workshop One - Day Four Exercise

Write about them interacting with their favorite thing: On their fourteenth birthday, Oxen received a telescope from their close friend, Sam. He new of her love for science, and though hard before choosing a rooftop telescope for them to envision the stars. To this day, Oxenfree still has the telescope pointed at the sky in the attic. Nothing could separate such an emotional bond with an object, except maybe Sam himself.
Her first view through the telescope was of Ursa Major. The Milky Way's visible star systems are gorgeous, and make any night a gallant ride. Oxenfree will never forget that moment on her cracking roof, aching from the weight of two steady children dragging a box of metal hunks up a ladder. Moments later, the easy set up hooked them into the sky, and reeled them in like fish from the deep.

Prompt: Oxenfree's life has had its ups and downs, so far.
First, there was the split. Oxen's mother and father lost them to a trapper looking to domesticate wild Kalons. They were sent to a pound in New York. Soon they were taken in by a young boy named Jay, but they took their one opportunity to dig under the fence and leave. They ran to the nearest woods and hunkered down, knowing they'd never find their mother or father again.
Next, they met Sam. Sam lived with a veterinarian named Cassidy. Every time Sam and Oxenfree would meet, he begged her to come and live with them. They would always decline, saying they had bigger plans for themself. They lived in a collection of trees behind their house. Sam left her a box with a telescope in it. He never explained where it came from, but that didn't matter to Ox. She wont tell anyone, but he actually started her study in astronomy. Their longing glances at the stars had began, and would never stop.
Then came the move. Oxenfree hitchhiked off the backs of cars and vans until they reached Arizona. They set up their tiny telescope under the shelter of a rock, and gazed and gazed until they would fall asleep. They moved all around Arizona, until she found an observatory owned by Evelyn B. Tillman, an astrologist. After finding Oxen sleeping near her telescope, she was stunned. If a creature could contain knowledge enough that would lead it to stargazing, it had the brain near that of a human. Push came to shove and Oxenfree eventually started living with her, reading books and looking through the massive telescope within the tower.
Finally, Ox heard the news of Sam. His disappearance was shocking. Who would steal a dog from his own home? Ox blamed themself. If they hadn't left, maybe Sam would still be around. Now, they live in a science observatory and their best friend, who they willingly abandoned, is gone.

Where do they live and what is the geography like? Oxenfree lives in Arizona. It's full of red clay, rocks, and cliffs. They hear us near unbearable, but the opportunities fill the blank.
What is the society like there, is there a hierarchy? Most people don't care much about each other's statuses, it's not part of society there.
What kind of technology does the world possess: modern, medieval, fantasy, etc.? Modern
Do many or only a few people live here? Very few people live near Oxenfree, though they're sure there are more people somewhere in the vast state.
Is the history the same as our world, or is it different? If different, how? It's quite different, since many events known well to us never happened.
Firstly, religion is practiced by few. It's not illegal, and it hasn't vanished, it's growth just stopped a long while back. This is because Emperor Constantine, the Roman emperor who legalized Christianity, was assasinated before he could complete the one thing he is remembered for. Religion just died down and lost popularity.
Secondly, many of the wars we know and study never happened. This is because of religious dying down. The Second World War never happened, instead, Germany never truly repaired and struggles with its stability.
Is your Kalon(s) considered lower, middle, or upper class? Upper-middle class seems to fit just right!
What sort of language(s) is commonly spoken here? English is the most common language in Arizona, though there are a few science dorks Ox has met that speak Latin and Greek with each other.

Story Behind their Name: Oxenfree, to me personally, always meant the game. I love Oxenfree, it has a sweet style, loveable characters, and a story no one could resist. It drew me in with its lovely indie style, and it's going to always be one of my favorites.
As for Oxenfree, they never liked the name they where given. The true meaning relates to a person who can never be found, yet Oxen always preferred nicknames, such as 'Ox' or 'Oxen'. The them, those meant they were stronger, mentally, of course.

Workshop Two - Day Three Exercise

How many different places have they lived: The first they can recall is being taken from their parents, which is an unspecified plot of forest in New York. Then, they lived with a young boy who took Ox from the pound. They ran away from there, and lived in the woods behind Sam's house for a good portion of their life. Now, Oxenfree lives in Arizona, in an observatory.
Why did they settle down where they are currently: The better chance they have at seeing the start, the better their life will be! Arizona is known for its star-seeing tourist attractions, so settling down there seemed like the only way to further Oxenfree's pulling interest.
Is there an ideal place they want to live, or are they already there: Oxenfree couldn't live anywhere better. They have food, water, shelter, and a caring friend at their side. Not to mention, it's stunning flora and fauna.
What are the biggest moments that have defined their life: Their move and their loss of Sam changed them completely. The move made Oxen feel more open to their surroundings, but in a plesent way. They noticed the back-breaking heat and rush or adrenaline when you bask in the sun on the back of a trailer. The cool of night brushes your hair, and the glisten or starts as the lurk in the soup of darkness. Sam's vanishing act caused them great sorrow. They felt the grieving pain of those who lost children, but at a second hand wash-down. Oxen doesn't talk about it much, so there isn't much to be said.
Does their future have a bright or darker outlook, and can they change it: Their future is quite positive! Everyone has ups and downs, sure, but there's nothing that could knock Oxen and further of course. They're happy where they are, and haven't the need to change that. Of course, that depends on if fate is true to itself.

If they could write a letter to their past self, what would it say: Oh, Oxenfree. You won't get it yet, but please, do leave New York. No matter how much it hurts you to leave everyone, you must, for yourself. You'll regret it afterwards, I promise. I don't know if you'll ever stop regretting anything you do, but you have to move on. You'll meet great people, everyone comes and goes. I know, even if you won't admit it, Sam means a lot to you as a friend. I'm being a hypocrite, but you come first right now. Yeah, being important just draws from your work, but you need to focus on yourself to further your work.
Don't stress over little details anymore. It hurts you and the others trying to work with you. And think before you speak, my oh my! If there's nothing between your brain and your mouth, you're in for a real treat. I know it's so hard for you to take advice from those you don't know, but you'll know me soon enough. The thing about people is, it irks them when someone blasts their opinion on top of their own. Learn a little compassion, you'll have more fun that way.

Prompt: Oxenfree's relationships die out quickly. That's just the way they live. Oxenfree had hope that their relationship with Sam would flourish, but then they darted off into the night in search for the better future they craved.
