Jaclyn // Background

Postby kiwi;; » Mon Mar 21, 2016 9:15 am

Background: Like many of the Viscets around her, Jaclyn grew up as a normal, only child. She was born in a large city, full of many talented viscets. Her city is often compared to Brooklyn, New York; crowded with people and always on the move. She had friends, went to school, and did all of those common "kid things". Though she was a happy, young child, Jac was never very "interesting". Jaclyn grew up with less money compared to other visctes her age, so she could never afford expensive bikes or electronics. She didn't have many hobbies, and there wasn't a single thing that she was good at. Of course, as the female grew, this negatively impacted her early life. When it was time for Jaclyn to find a job, she found nothing interesting, and always got fired or quit; or until one day, when Jac was walking home from a job search. Near her home, there was a small park, which was home to a large, legal graffiti wall. Although Jaclyn had walked pasted the wall hundreds of times, she never stopped to examine the artwork, or at least until that day.

Short Story: Jaclyn's pace slowed as she approached the slightly older male Viscet in front of her. In both hands, he held a small spray paint bottle, and alternated between the two colors. Jac curiously examined the illegible letters, and she tilted her head. "Hey sir," the male Viscet's head appeared over his shoulder. "Yeah?" Jaclyn grinned at him, "What does that say?" He turned back around to face his work, and shook his head, "Nothing." Jac's ears perked with interest, "What'dya mean?" By this time, he was completely turned around, and the two spray cans were set on the ground. Jaclyn began to worry that she was interrupting him. "There are no real words, just what ever you want it to say." Jac nodded, though she wasn't completely sure about his response. She noticed the male glance back at her multiple times, eventually he held out a spray can, "Wanna try?"Jaclyn backed up slightly, "Oh, no thanks. I don't know how." He shrugged his shoulders, "You don't have to know how. Just try it." She took a step forward towards the Viscet, and reluctantly took the spray can. He pointed towards a small open area on the wall, and gestured towards it. Jaclyn bent down onto one knee, and firmly pressed down onto the small button atop the can. Her hand movements weren't quick enough, and the paint started to build up, causing the excess to drip down. After she finished the shape, Jac stepped back and examined the orange, lopsided circle. "Oh..." She looked back up at the male, and he handed her another color. Without knowing what else to turn the "circle" into, Jaclyn drew two circles and a slanted line to finish her piece. Stepping back once more, she stared at the small, orange and black smiley face on the wall, surrounded by many advanced letters and paintings. She laughed at her own child-like painting, and looked at the male, who's name she still didn't catch. He smiled, "Gotta start somewhere, right?" Jac shrugged, "I suppose." He tilted his head, "You know what," an empty can fell to the ground, "why don't you come back tomorrow, I can give you some tips." Jaclyn smiled and nodded, "I'll think about it." So that's just what she did; Jaclyn thought about the offer, and after hours of thinking and arguing with herself, she decided: "what could it hurt?" So the next day, she went back to the same spot and crated her first official art peice. It was a small quote which read the words "to be creative, lose the fear of messing up" At the time, the quote had no meaning to her, but as she grew into the hobby, her whole mindset changed. And many years later, Jac never regretted that decision. She never expected a simple walk through the park to impact her life so positively, and who knew she could ever turn this art style with a bad reputation into a career.

Personality:
[Appreciative]- Jaclyn always knows that some Viscets have it worse that her, so she never takes anything for granted. She always puts herself in other's shoes, and always shows sympathy for the less fortunate. Jac also has a hard time telling other Viscets no, so often, she just appreciates what others are willing to give her.
[Rational]- Ever since those small classroom arguments in grade five, Jaclyn based her statements on real, proven facts, and always won those disputes. Though she thinks that other's opinions and emotions are very important, she feels that something cannot be true or justified without proper facts and explanations. Jac always has her fair share of facts and reasons stored in the back of her mind, suitable for any quarrel.
[Artful]- Throughout her years of art training and learning, Jaclyn has acquired the skill of being much more creative and cunning with her work. She has acknowledged that there is more to art that pencil on paper, or paint on a canvas.
[Straightforward]- Jac always states everything as it is. She tells other viscets exactly how she is feeling, she never feels the need to "butter up" anyone with her conversations. Jaclyn tries to keep all discussions effortless, and wants everyone to understand exactly what she is saying. If there's anything Jac dislikes more in life, it would be repeating herself.
[Experimental]- Like many artists, Jaclyn loves finding and inventing new methods for her art. But unlike many of those same artists, Jac doesn't mind messing up, and never lets the idea of ruining the art piece stop her from continuing. These trials and experiments keep Jaclyn's job interesting and keep her from getting bored.
[Realistic]- Jaclyn always tries her best to understand reality. She doesn't expect extravagant and perfect actions from everyone, and knows that it's only natural to make mistakes. Commonly, Jac will use the term "keeping it real" when another viscet asks for advice or help.

About the Hat: Jaclyn is a very simplistic viscet. She doesn't feel the need to prove herself through

clothing and money. Because of this, she only wears one small item; which was given to her by an advanced street painter. A navy blue baseball cap. When she was just starting out with the graffiti, Jaclyn would place the hat on the ground, and bypassing viscets would put small amounts of money into the hat. This was the only way for her to make money as a new artist. Of course, as Jac became a more advanced artist, she didn't need anyone's pocket money. Aside from this, Jaclyn still thought that the hat was an important symbol to her, an she is never seen without her navy blue baseball cap.

Why Graffiti?: When you hear the term graffiti, you might thing of illegal vandalism, and truthfully, this is what Jaclyn thought about it as well. Of course, that thought changed dramatically after she was positively introduced to the practice. After learning what legal graffiti was, Jac was instantly intrigued. Once Jaclyn was able to play around with different techniques and styles, she realized that there is much more to graffiti than spraying a can of paint onto a wall. She discovered how much talent and feeling the artist would need to create pieces. Instead of painting random words and symbols,
Jaclyn tries to create positive messages by painting hearts, flowers, quotes, and birds.

Quirks, Other Facts:
Every night, Jaclyn watches the sun set from the roof of her apartment. She has a rational fear of insects, and an irrational fear of riding in old cars. Jaclyn makes money by creating legal graffiti pieces for businesses. She has never eaten at a fast food restaurant. Jac has read The Diary of Anne Frank over three times. While painting, Jaclyn tries to start conversations with almost everyone that passes her. Since the first day of painting, Jac has kept a journal of what she did and who she met that day. Whenever she's stressed, Jaclyn craves ice or cold water. Unlike more graffiti artists, she never wears gloves, and actually enjoys getting the colorful paint on her paws. Jac is allergic to oak and peanuts. Whenever she messes up a painting, she circles it with red paint. Jaclyn has never had soda. She can speak French, and often includes French quotes or phrases into her art. She has a terrible memory.

Dreams for the future:
Often, Jaclyn dreams about her future, and though she is confident in her decision making, worries that her own actions will not pan out as she expected. One of Jac's main goals is to spread the passion and creativity in graffiti. She hopes to open and construct her own graffiti wall, allowing the public to express their creativity in public. Jaclyn created her own "bucket list" early in life, which she still sticks to. Some of the points include spreading her art, traveling around the globe, and her main goal is to inspire other visctes. Jac hopes to never be forced to leave her occupation, and she wants to create graffiti and other forms of art as long as her body will allow her to.

Jac's Best/Worst Memory:
It was the fifteenth of July; a very hot day in Jaclyn's city. The night before, she worked late into the night on her soon to be favorite art piece. Though Jac struggles to remember the original art work, memories of bright colors reminded Jaclyn of the huge piece. She returned to the graffiti wall early in the morning, for she painted very leisurely, and needed all day to finish the art piece. Jaclyn returned with horror and anger. Bright red x's and slashes were painted over her beloved art work. After catching her feelings back, Jac quietly began working over the red paint. -two hours later- She stepped back from her art, and a grin formed on her face. Bright flowers and vines were painted over the x's, as if the positive painting was taking over the negative. Quickly, this became one of Jac's all time favorite paintings, and she walks past it everyday to remind herself that good always takes over the negative.

Most Prized Possession:
When Jaclyn was thirteen years old, her mother, who Jac wasn't very close to, gave her a journal as a birthday gift. The words 'livre de souvenirs' were written across the black, speckled front in a cursive font. The words, which are French, translate to 'book of memories'. At her age, Jac found the journal pointless, and was even furious with her mother for giving such a useless gift. Jaclyn declared that she would never use the book, and stuck it far back into her closet. When Jac was ready to move out of her childhood home at age eighteen, she rediscovered the journal. Not a single word was written in it's pages, and Jaclyn regretted being so ungrateful when she was younger. Jac promised herself that she would use the journal to make up for her unappreciative behavior. During her younger years, Jaclyn had a hard time talking and expressing herself, so the journal easily allowed her to speak her own mind.

Re: Jaclyn // Relationships

Each of these small paragraphs are taken from Jaclyn's daily journal, where she recalls many of the viscets that she met on the streets.

Araxie & Jac: The strange speaker.
Journal Page 4 wrote:You know how sometimes you feel as if someone is watching you? Well for me, it's pretty common, and I've gotten used to the feeling of random viscets watching be paint. When I met Araxie, it was oddly different. I knew that she was behind me, but she wasn't watching my art, she was watching me. Staring at me. I was slightly hesitant to speak to her, and I wasn't sure what to say. She introduced herself, but spoke very abnormal. Araxie was older than me, and wasn't "quick minded." She spoke quickly, but as strange as it sounds, her words reminded me of quotes from birthday cards; as if she was quoting cards, books, or movie. I asked her a question, but that never got an answer or reply. She's the kind of viscet that I'll remember as one of the odd ones.

Arvan & Jac: The right-hand-man.
Journal Page 11 wrote:We all have those friends who just really understand you. Arvan (or if you're me, you can call him Arvy) is surly my best friend. He's so mellow and down to earth. I know, I talk too much, but he puts up with it all, and is still my friend over ten years later. Yes, he's been my friend since young school years, and he's honestly, as cheesy as it sounds, the only viscet that understands me! Avran's so calm and intelligent, he's so good in bad situations, and he really knows how to make a girl feel better.

Dune & Jac: Flock of friends.
Journal Page 17 wrote:You know those days where you think you've seen it all? Well June 14 was one of those days, at least until I was packing my bags to leave. It's truly frightening when you look up to see a dozen small, dark beating eyes looking at you. Ducks! Yes, ducks, the bird, you heard me. Behind them stood a tall, friendly viscet. He introduced himself and the ducks and that's when I met Dune. Now; aside from the tiny feathered flock near his feet, Dune was very normal. He showed quite a bit of interest in my art work, and talking to him was a pretty pleasant experience. He was friendly, understanding, and overall, just really nice and calm. Once you get past the odd duckling squad below, Dune is a really amazing person. I haven't seen him in a long while, but I kinda wish that I would.

Cliff & Jac: The two-faced.
Journal Page 23 wrote:So this is more of a story that I'm going to tell to myself I suppose?? It was about five in the evening: in my city, that's when it begins to turn dark. A viscet approached me, and introduced himself as Cliff Faraji. He seemed normal, aside from his unique & different appearance. I told him that I was getting ready to leave, and he insisted on helping. He was very friendly and eager to help, so I allowed him to gather my things with me. By this time, it was almost turning six o-clock, but Cliff seemed to change. You know how sometimes you know someone is acting different, but you just can't put your finger on what's changed? So, it was just like one quick movement changed his whole personality. After a few minutes of this, I stood up, and he threw his head behind his shoulders, and obviously, I panicked. (I mean really what do you expect me to do when that happens?) I asked what's wrong over and over, but instead of getting a response, he shuffled around, as though he was avoiding or hiding from something. Before I could get another word out of my mouth, he was yelling. Not quite yelling, but howling. As if he was the big bad wolf, letting the moon know where he was. And before I could react again, he ran away. He dropped the paint cans and buckets while running, and I attempted to call after him. Of course, that was to no success, and he was gone. Truly one of the most strange experiences I've have.

Iris & Jac: The artful one.
Journal Page 31 wrote:We all see many beautiful people during our day to day life, but Iris was something different. Normally, very few viscets will stand out to me while I'm out on the street, but she was so vivid to me, for whatever reason. I noticed Iris's floral and zentangle like patterns, and I instantly fell in love with her coat. being the outgoing and annoying person that I am I called her over to where I was. It was quickly clear to me that Iris was very shy, yet kind and humble. As odd as it sounds, examining Iris's fur patterns inspired me greatly to create an art piece just like her wonderful coat. Although we only spoke to each other for a few minutes, my creativity level skyrocketed, and I painted a small Iris flower; based from her.
