story:
A little longer....if I cant find anyone soon..im done.. Dakelh could not take this pain anymore. He had been out at sea by himself without his pod for 3 weeks or so. Hadn’t eaten in a very long time, and he had lost a great amount of weight. He knew that he could not go on like this anymore. There was nothing to hunt, and by now, he wasn’t even strong enough to do anything other than gently floating throught the currents. In his mind, the only thing he could do now was wait to die. He began to think. If he was found by someone, how would he know if they could be trusted. He looked around for a bit just to make sure he wasn’t followed. But off in the distance he could sense sharks. He knew that sharks couldn’t stand a chance against a Killer whale, but a young one that was injured and weak, a shark could easily take one down. Now he was very uncomfortably alone. He not only now missed his pod, but he was vulnerable and alone. It was starting to get dark now as well. He was sure he wouldn’t survive. He decided to watch, and wait until something came to end him.
He soon fell asleep from exhaustion…still floating. When he woke, it was early morning. His hopes were raised. He had found signs of other orcas. He dove into the depths and shot forward in excitement he sang out in ringing calls searching for a reply. He waited and called. He waited each silent moment after another, until the moment of truth. A soft high-pitched whistle ran through the cove and Dakelh could barely hold in his joy he raced forward with all the strength he had left and shot himself into the air. Sending a spray of cool fresh water into the morning air. He stuck his head out of the water and let out a squel of happiness and he could now see the other whales coming near, their dorsal fins cutting through the surface of the cold water with a spray of mist. And now if he put his head under water, he could see the approaching whales. And it looked like the whole pod.
The whales crowded around Dakelh, asking him questions and looking him over. “what happened to your eye?” one healer asked. Dakelh Looked at her with it. “The other whales at the compound called it a ghost eye. Its how they mark you for becoming a Zenachrome. They were going to shift me.” The healer looked at him in shock. “ you went to the compounds? You escaped?!” Dakelh looked at her and smiled. “Yes but not easily.” The healer suddenly turned around to talk to another pod member. “ Desoraan, go get Jolon. He needs to see this boy.” The large whale nodded and began to speed away. Dakelh saw him return shortly after with a large male. Much larger than that of himself. “Hello,” the large whale greeted with a grin. “My name is Jolon, leader of the Kheeri pod, your name is…..?” Dakelh was nervous, he was intimidated by the two large whales. “This is Desorran. He is the leader of warriors and battle training.” The whale looked at him with a serious face and gently curled into an almost-smile. “You can bunk with me tonight. Then if you wish I will find you your own place to live.” Desoraan looked him over as Dakelh. “You have the eye…” Dakelh panicked “Parden?” Desoraan nodded again. “The ghost eye.. the mark of the zenachrome..” Jolon looked at him “What do you mean? His eye? He surly is blind in it.” Dakelh spoke up. “Actually, I can see perfectly out of it. It was just clouded over by….them.” Desoraan looked at it again. “Yes. My mate had the eye like that. She fought the Zenachromes in battle.” Dakelh looked at him. “Yes… the last fight I got into with one, it scratched my eye.” Desoraan smiled. “It shows your strength.” Dakelh smiled back, and replied “Thank you, sir.”
