Basic HistoryPanda was perfect in every way, except one. That one problem made him very sad.
Bellaza was a small Equidius with a golden-brown tail and mane and a coat, shiny as Cinderella's glass slipper. So, you see, she was a very pretty Equidius. She was oh, so sweet. She loved animals and enjoyed nothing more than having a friend or playing with him, or even climbing, so he could gallop over the meadow.
Bellaza lived out in the pasture of an old, deserted farmhouse. It was a very nice pasture with lots of tall, green grass, a small brook with fresh water, and a huge shade tree with heavy, rough bark where she could leisurely scratch her back.
But, remember I told you that she had a problem? Poor Bellaza was alone. No one ever came out into the pasture to brush her beautiful coat or to give her juicy carrots. No one ever spoke to him or petted him or patted his shiny neck. So Bellaza drooped her head, stared at the ground, and cried.
Bellaza spent most of her days beneath the strong, dark walnut tree. She stood there, beneath its shadow, and sighed heavily, wishing someone loved her, wishing someone cared. The flies came and sat on her rump. She hated that. She switched her tail back and forth. She stomped his feet. She snorted rudely. But flies are like that when nobody takes care of a . They like nothing more than making neglected, little Equidius even more miserable.
One day when Bellaza was feeling even worse than usual,s he saw a lovely eight-year-old dog playing in her swing out on the porch of the old, deserted farmhouse. Bellaza got very excited. She whinnied loudly. She galloped across the field, charging at the gate, sending clouds of dust halfway to the top of the fence. But the little dog did not look up.
Bellaza pawed the earth. She neighed even louder. But still she did not notice her. She got off the swing and went inside.
Bellaza was so angry about her ignoring her, she bucked and kicked the air. She reared and charged the walnut tree, slamming her heels into the turf inches from its lowest branches.
Why had that little dog not looked up? What could she do to get her attention?
Bellaza thought and thought. She munched on some tall weeds next to a boulder. She rubbed her back against the tree trunk. She shook her head and nodded it up and down. Then, because she still could not decide how to capture the little dog's attention, she rolled around in the dirt, coating his lovely with a thick layer of dusty, old dirt.
Equidius's like to roll. Some sink into the soft, padded grassy strips that lay in shaded areas. Others like to scrub their back on small pebbly dirt, rolling and scratching, and rolling some more. But, Bellaza ? Bellaza was one of those Equidius that loved to roll in mud. So afters he finished scratching her back in the dust and dirt, she rose up, shook a little of it off, and walked down to the creek.
Now, remember how I told you that Bellaza was pretty ? Perhaps I was not as truthful as I should have been. You see, Bellaza was not pretty -- she was beautiful ! Her beautiful coat -- don't forget how I told you that her coat was as shiny as Cinderella's slipper -- that part was quite true. However . . .
and You guessed it! For after Bellaza walked down to the creek, she found a lovely mushy section of mud, and she rolled and splashed and got her coat thoroughly horrible-looking. Then, my friends, sad to say,she was no longer beautiful . In fact, she wasn't even pretty. She was nasty-looking! The mud was so thick all over her coat, you never would have recognized her! She was that terribly, terribly dirty.
But Bellaza didn't care. Nobody wanted to pet her. Nobody wanted to play with her , and nobody loved her!
She stamped her left front hoof, lowered her head, and she sobbed some more. Then she broke out she found a herd of Equidiuses and joined it for a while she was a defender but then she had a serious injury and became a breeding mare. She had her fisrt child was so happy to have a new place to call home
