While this design is very cute, I would recommend staying away from previously made character designs for adopts. I love Ariel but we dont want artists getting into trouble for copyrighting issues!

Basically unless the design is changed drastically from the original ariel, it looks too "skinned" for me. Meaning that they look almost identical to the original. Adding new design work to this would make it beautiful and original as well!

For mermaids, try adding "scales" on the tail and fur near it, I know it doesnt have them, but if you color it like there is you can make It seem like there are two different scale colors. Effectively changing the design and steering away from skinning a Disney character.
