peterson finished up at the last house in his neighborhood around 8pm. now, it was time for him to meet up with his friends to parake in their annual candy swap! the big swap was his favorite part of halloween night, somehow it was even better than choosing a costume. he met up with his friends at one of their houses. they all joined up in the living room and chatted about their stories from the night. cool costumes they had seen, good candy they got, the houses that gave out expired popcorn balls, and everything in between. finally, one friend announced, "okay guys, time for the big swap!" the excited chattering built up again as everyone poured their candy onto the floor in front of them. some would just swap from what they saw, others would try to pull a fast one over on their peers. peterson immediately began to sort out his candies. this pile for gummies, this one for chocolates, a pile for hard candies... "hey peterson!" one of his friends called. "look, i have lots of your favorites!" they said, showing off an array candy corn packets. yes, candy corn was his favorite. he knew it was a controversial opinion, but he just couldnt help but love that sickly sweet flavor. "ohhhh..." his eyes practically glistened with awe. then, he heard those beautiful words: "you can just have them, i hate candy corn!" he certainly felt like he got the best treat of the night <3


( its not a conventional trick or treat story, but i hope it's okay! with lolo and all else going on i was getting sick of the traditional trick or treat story ^-^'

rexian paused to inspect the candy he'd collected thus far, dropping the pillow case he'd been using to the ground and sifting through it. his eyes narrowed in disappointment; some of this stuff wasn't even edible! half of it was either gross candy, or various stickers, figures, and snacks. where was the good stuff? perhaps it was his lackluster "costume," which simply consisted of him painting a few extra bones on his fur. with a huff, he took his makeshift container back in his teeth and continued towards the next house. surely, if he just picked up his pace, he's collect more than his fair share of the good stuff.

house by house, arabella went, treat bucket held firmly in one paw. the wind howled, and the clouds remained dark as night settled upon the gummikit forest, but amidst all this darkness, they were able to find a light, small it may be.

arabella saw a small cottage, overtaken by vines and moss, with a single, candle-lit lantern, in the distance. with a hurried pace, they ran their way over to the cottage, just barely avoiding snagging their costume on the thorns and bramble along the path. as they approached however, they notices the lantern had mysteriously disappeared when they werent looking, and left them shrouded in darkness, only illuminated by the light of their light up magic wand toy.

"hello?" they shakily asked, as they knocked lightly on the door. no one answered though, but they swear they saw the curtains shift.

they tried again, knocking on the wooden door full of cracks and clearly worse for wear, but again no one answered. confused, but determined now, they shoved at the door while turning the knob stubbornly, and finally, it opened! only for them to find...

a ghost! the ghost of a young gummikit, looking at them dead on. ghastly tears stained her cheeks, and her dress was frilly at some point, but it merely laud flat and looked soaked now, and her bonnet was torn in several places and scuffed. arabella, despite being tempted to leave, they decided... to offer this girl a hand.

"are you okay?" they asked gently, to which the gummikit replied,

"no... im all alone, and it's halloween, and i cant get candy too... i just wanted to play with everyone else and get some candy too, but then i woke up here, and it's cold... i want candy too." she cried, and started to tear up once more, but arabella was quick to 'hug' the gummikit, who seemed about their age, and reassure her.

"dont worry! you can come with me, and we can get some candy! here, you can also have one of mine." they held out a mini hershey's bar, and watched as the ghost gummikit smiled, and happily ate the candy!

"oh thank you so much... i really wanted some candy, i feel so much happier... i feel like i could cry, in a good way..." she said softly, and arabella helped lead the ghost gummikit out of the house, telling her of all the fun things about halloween and the best spots they knew to get candy.

so absorbed in their talking, arabella didnt notice that as they walked, the ghost gummikit had gradually, slowly started to fade away, until they reached the next house on their stop, and turned to see the gummikit once beside them was no longer there... only the scent of vanilla and candy remained, and a small silk hair ribbon.

arabella smiled a small smile, and picked up the ribbon to tuck safely in their pocket, and said goodbye to the gummikit, even though they knew she was already gone.

as they knocked on the next door and happily shouted, "trick or treat!", they only had wished they had gotten her name before she moved on.
