Cottonkit tumbled out of the nursery, shrieking. 'Marigoldspark! Marigoldspark! I got a thorn.' Behind her, Twigspring was carefully picking up the remaining thorns and taking then off to the side.

'A thorn?' sighed Marigoldspark, flicking her stub tail. 'Again?'

'Yes!'

'From where?' the medicine cat inquired, sitting down to lick Cottonkit's paw pad.

'The nursery,' she mewed, watching closely. Cottonkit gritted her teeth, she refused to mewl as the thorn was extracted from her paw. Her tail flicked in horror as she saw how huge it seemed.

'This is tiny,' Marigoldspark meowed, tossing it aside. Cottonkit limped back to the nursery, where Whalekit cannoned into her, yelling about how she'd planted thorns in the nursery and now Pantherkit had trod on one too!

Cottonkit rolled on her back in the dust, staring at the clouds. She nudged Parrotkit with a grin, and pointed. 'That one looks like you!'

'Whattt!' Parrotkit exclaimed. 'It looks like you - i.e. fox-dirt!'

Cottonkit turned on her side and head-butted him. She dug her tiny, blunt claws into his thick fur. Parrotkit pushed her aside with a laugh. The calico molly glared at him angrily, standing up and licking her ruffled fur. Her green eyes flashed as she stalked off.

The 3 moon kit was smaller than Parrotkit and Pantherkit, even though they were barely 2 moons old. Her short tail curled around her paws and she tipped her head up to the sky. 'That's Parrotkit,' she decided, spotting one that looked like crow-food.
