how did they lose their ear? : Foampaw darted under the fox's legs and nipped its hind legs with her sharp teeth. The eleven moon old apprentice whipped around and leapt onto its back, raking her claws down its sides. The clearing was full of screeching cats and howling foxes. Foampaw flattened her ears and clung on as the hulking red fox wildly tried to shake her off. It swung her onto a tree and she felt the crack as her head hit it before she found herself falling. A heavy paw to the side of her head and a searing pain before she hit the floor.

The hazel eyes blinked open and Foampaw found herself looking up at the cobwebby ceiling of what she thought was the medicine den. She tried to sit up but found herself weakened and shaky. 'Hello?' Her voice scared her, it was echoed and hollow, as though it was only in her mind. Bewildered and in pain, she leant back again and tried to sleep.

A strong paw was shaking her. Her head was spinning, she had been back at the battle, falling again. Only that time she'd never hit the ground. Falling, falling...

Foampaw lifted her head and looked at Marigoldspark. She was unsure of what was going on, the medicine cat was trying to say something - but why couldn't Foampaw hear it? Foampaw shook her head in frustration and felt something strange. Right where that terrible pain was, right where her ear was. Correction, where her ear should have been. Foampaw put up a terrified paw and felt the cobwebs covering the empty place where it should have been.
