One’s 18th birthday is always a significant moment in their life. Not only is it the gateway into adulthood, accompanied by great privileges and serious legal implications, but it is followed by an letter in the mail, addressed specifically to said person. The letter has both first and last name printed neatly in cursive on the front, while inside had the receivers birthdate followed by their last words. Today was Dominik’s 18th birthday.
Dominik rushed outside to grab the mail from her mailbox, frantically flipping through news ads and bills before finally seeing the white envelope sealed with a red wax stamp. She flipped it over, revealing her given name: Dominik Petrov. Eyes glued to the name, she began to sweat in anticipation and slowly headed back inside. What was inside the envelope was top secret information, only to be seen by the person receiving it.Dominik slid her thumb underneath the corner of the envelope, peeling it open, and revealing a small slip of paper with the phrase is red ink saying: “please don't let me die”.
