this is steve. steve is an interesting fish. he doesn’t really follow the normal rules of nature, or any rules, for that matter. sometimes he changes colors, usually according to his mood. here he’s changing from happy to excited to an emotion beau hasn’t figured out yet. he thinks it’s somewhere along the lines of “spunky”.
beau isn’t exactly sure what steve is. he suspects steve is much more than just a fish. sometimes, steve will “speak” to him. it’s more of telepathic speaking than verbal. regular things said by steve are “hello”, “good day”, and “i would like to be referred to as ‘irwin’ today.” his words are spoken by a deep voice in beau’s head, distorted a little, like how most things sound underwater. beau tries to engage steve in conversation, and sometimes he manages to get some questions answered by him. if he asks too many, though, steve falls silent and the conversation ends there. occasionally, steve will answer strings of yes/no questions, the kind you’d ask a Magic 8 ball, like “should i buy a lottery ticket today” and “will it rain tomorrow?” beau always takes steve’s advice, but for whatever reason, he only ends up liking the results on ‘irwin’ days.
although beau doesn’t fully understand steve, he enjoys his company. he likes to believe they’ve become very good friends.
for whatever reason i felt like writing about steve’s backstory a bit and it got kinda lengthy, please let me know if this isnt allowed!
