◌ lives with her adoptive?? Dad?? in a little shack in the forest/by the riverside, they fixed it up a bit though so it's livable!!
◌ valley's half sister!! they know each other but got separated when they were real young. videotape's abt 3 years older than val (19 yrs). & after their parents couldn't look after them bc of the recent cryptid invasion they sort of just. left the two on the streets one day. both of em wandered together w/o guardians for a while but valley eventually got picked up by the local orphanage & vhs was adopted?? i guessss?? by some dude who ran a local milkshake parlour (+ was just v talented at making drinks in general)!! they were separated after that n haven't seen each other since
◌ also vhs wasn't adopted thru the orphanage!! she just visited the milkshake parlour p much every day & alan (who's actually pretty developed right now but i'll probably write abt him when i'm not half asleep!!!) just felt rly bad n started off giving this homeless 11 yr old free milkshakes & then ""adopting her"". the orphanages actually rly hated that he did this but videotape didn't want 2 go there so he was pretty much forced 2 keep her & wouldn't give her in.
◌ also turns out both she n valley hate goin by their real names : // if u call her vian you'll Die. or maybe she'll just put cryptid claws into yr tea but.... u know, call her videotape or vhs 4 short
◌ anyways so after vhs got adopted, uuh m gnna call her dad Alan, she lived in a little upstairs room in the milkshake parlour, but the parlour eventually got wrecked by a cryptid. alan didn't rly have.. any where else to go bc he also lived in his parlour, bt found a trashy shack in the sketchy woods & it was sort of his last resort. he took videotape w him & they fixed the place up a bit, but the only thing they found they couldn't fix was how many cryptids lived around the area. because of that, there's tons of traps around the shack & lots of weapons n such inside, hella dangerous & no one ever wants to go near their place. vhs + alan know the place rly well though so they never get caught in the traps or anything!!
◌ also both she nd alan are avid believers of the conspiracy that the cryptids have been appearing bc of humankind & not just 'naturally', most particularly believed 2 b the government. alan has noted; all the buildings that were torn down on the day his parlour was, were all businesses of some sort. they both do a lot of research into this nd are kind of obsessive about it. they have lots of ""evidence"" spread about their shack.

◌ if she ever has to go out to town a lot of people kno her as """That Weird Kid with the Dad""" mostly due to her nd her dad's antics
◌ probably has had a crush on evry girl on earth but has no idea it's love bc she was never taught?? the concept of love?? just gets like super warm n fuzzy & nervous around anyone she has a crush on & doesn't know how to deal w it?? deserves a girlfriend tbh. a gf who doesn't mind dead cryptids in the yard.
