Outfit Design:
Let's start from her head for what she wears. Usually sat
upon her head is a black bow attached to a hair band that
is only there for aesthetic, not to push her hair back. Hair
is always neat and presentable. Pulled back in a bun most
of the time, but on some days she lets the strands cascade
down her back. Nancy wears minimal makeup, opting to
using just mascara and occasionally subtle eyeliner. Around
her neck sits a small choker, a thin string tied cutely in the
front. A longer necklace sits upon her chest, a small light
green gem planted in the gold frame around it. A white
turtleneck is under it, tucked into a small black skater skirt.
The skirt is usually above her knee, but sometimes she ops
for a longer one when it's chilly. Black leggings are under it,
always there even if it's not cold out. Her shoes are a light
tan, giving a break from all of the black she wears. They're
boots with a two inch heel, giving some more height to the
short girl. To give herself more of the punk vibe, she slings
on a black leather jacket that only reaches to the end of her
rib cage and not down to her waist. Gold rings, some with
gems and some with carvings, adorn her delicate fingers,
even on each side. Two on her middle fingers, one on her
index fingers. Black nail polish is usually painted onto her
perfectly trimmed nails, her ring finger on her left hand a
white with black speckles.

Why is it their favorite?:
This outfit happens to be Nancy's favorite outfit because
not only is it girly, but it also gives off the punk vibe. The
leather jacket, all of the black, she loves it. When she
walks into school, nobody can really decipher what "clique"
she's in, and she likes that about it as well. She can hang
out with the outcasts as they call them, while also being
able to be around the more popular kids. Her outfit also
happens to receive lots of compliments, and she enjoys the
attention she gets from it. Along with the perks I've already
mentioned, it also goes along with her whole 80's aesthetic
that she's into, and it also happens to be one of her mother's
outfits that she passed down to Nancy. Not the leather jacket,
of course, Nancy had bought that with her own money, along
with the shoes and leggings. She can really feel like she's in
the 80's, considering that's when her mother use to wear it.

Gabriel huddled in the corner of the armory, hoping nobody would notice him there. The bullying had been rough today, rougher than normal. The other squires seemed to be sick of him, doing everything they could to drive them out. He could still hear their words echoing in his head.

“I guess the old master’s going nuts after all, taking you on. Sure your look more like a noble than the stray you are, but you’re more suited to the role of a lady than a knight.”

The Master had found him when he was young, curled on the side of a road just outside of the castle. The old man had told him the looks he was so often mocked for were a miracle, as he never would have spotted another kit in the rain and mud. He’d liked the fight he saw in the young kits eyes, determined even in such awful conditions, and swooped him up to take home. He’d given the kit with no memories a name, food, a home, a life, and while Gabriel couldn’t have been more thankful he sometimes worried the master made a mistake picking him up that night.

He could feel anger bubbling in his chest by the time The Master found him. The old kalon sat next to him, not bothered by the dirty floor a bit. They sat in a comfortable silence a moment before he spoke, voice patient, but true.

“Do you know why I named you after the messenger angel, Gabriel?”

Gabriel looked up, and shook his head. His Master smiled, a rare expression.

“Because I saw the fight in your eyes, and I knew you were a sign. These people… They are so caught up in their silly things… But you. You who are an orphan. You who is small, who is delicate… You are my best student. Your very existence will be a message to the others. It isn’t a matter of birth, or looks, but of soul and work. You are the strongest because you train the hardest. The smartest because you study the longest. The best because you put every ounce of yourself into everything you do.”

Gabriel looked down at his paws a moment before looking up at his master and returning his smile. The old kalon gave him a hardy pat on the back.

“So, Gabriel, the tournament is soon, and you’ll be needing a proper fitting armor set. Any specifics you have in mind?”

…

The day of the tournament he stepped out onto the field and stood proudly as the other squires laughed. His armor was beautiful, crafted from painted dragon bone, and fortified gold, formed to be easy to move in and resistant to magic. It shone in the sun as bright as his fur, and he couldn’t have thought it more perfect. It wasn’t like the other squires armaments, heavy, and bold, and harsh, but it suited his fighting style perfectly, it was strong, and most of all it was a perfect representation of everything he was.

A beautiful, delicately crafted knight, stronger than any other that would ever stand in his way.

His first opponent, the biggest of them all, decked all in black and steel let out a chuckle as he stepped up to battle.

As did the second. As did the third, though, certainly less bold.

But by the end the only sounds to be heard were cheers from the stands as Gabriel stood proud atop the winners podium, glorious, bright, and stronger than them all.
