Qirum #9 - Lion Heart

Qirums are beautiful unicorn-like creatures that initially were born
from forbidden bonds between dragons and horses, but eventually
evolved in a completely new race more similar to horses with some
dragon features like horns, scales, unusual tails. For a long time Qirums
were hiding in the caves, fearing humans and other creatures; caves
that were full of gems and precious stones changed the appearance
and genes of Qirums, making them more reminiscent of the gemstones
hidden in the specific caves.
Qirums never dare to harm any living thing. They appear in the areas
where changes are needed, they bring justice, good luck, a good harvest.
Flowers usually grow where Qirums set hooves. Qirums are very lightweight
and can jump quite high and literally "float" above the lands. They are
very kind, wise, and beautiful species. If you see a Qirum that left its
cave (which they rarely do) – then be prepared that your life will
change in a most wonderful way.

Fun fact: - A lion's back teeth (called carnassals) work like a pair of scissors, which comes in handy when tackling a fresh piece of meat. Though the teeth help cut up their meals, lions don't actually chew their food, but rather swallow it in chunks, using only one side of their mouth at a time.

The two majestic stone lions that stand guard outside the New York Public library are named Patience and Fortitude. They were named in the 1930s to reflect the qualities New Yorkers exhibited during the Great Depression.

In 2002, much to the surprise of conservationists, a lioness adopted and protected a baby antelope. However, two weeks later, a male lion ate the baby while the lioness slept. The lioness appeared to be stricken with grief and walked around roaring in anger.

The two bronze lions outside The Art Institute of Chicago were made for its opening in 1893. The south lion is (unofficially) named “In an Attitude of Defiance,” and the north lion is named “On the Prowl.”

A lion’s bite is 30 times stronger than the bite of a housecat. They actually have the weakest bite of all the big cats, at 600 psi. The jaguar has the strongest bite force of any big cat at 2000 psi.

It is a common belief that lion claws are retractable. Actually they are protractible, which means that when the animal is at rest, the claws are sheathed. This protects the claws and helps keeps them sharp. If their claws were retractable, lions would need to walk around tensing to keep the claws sheathed.

When a lion curls up its top lip and pulls a funny face, it is usually using its Jacobson’s organ, which is a small area on the roof of the mouth that allows a lion to “taste” the air. By sticking out their tongues and showing their teeth, which is known as the “flehmen response,” they can determine if there is food close by and if it’s worth eating.

Scientists studying the lions have theorized that the embryos of lionesses may have been compromised by a high level of androgens during gestation, thus causing these "masculine" lionesses to be born.
After Cecil the lion was sadly hunted and killed, another male lion named Jericho, who researchers claim Cecil had a brotherly bond with, stepped in to protect Cecil's pride, including the cubs, from rival males.
Lions are the only big cats that have a tassel on their tail. This tassel is used to signal other lions when hunting or traveling.
Lions sleep the most out of any big cat, with their "naps" sometimes lasting up to 22 hours.
The MGM lion, named Leo, has been used in every MGM movie opening since 1929.
The Nemean lion is the most famous lion in Greek mythology. This was the lion slain by Heracles, and it is represented by the consellation Leo.
