The wind whipped around the cliffs wildly the sky a reddish grey told of an oncoming storm as I slowed Aros to a trot after training with him for only a few weeks he seemed to be improving fast his head suddenly shot up his ears flicking back and forth as my eyes searched the cliffside to see what drew his attention a mare stood close to the edge so close it looked as though the faintest wind would knock her off she was a stunning bay appy with a muscular figure she watched us closely her sharp eyes following any movement we made Aros strained wanting to get closer but the pressure on the reins kept him in place suddenly the thunder roared above us and I heard something approaching from behind I turned my body toward the sound to discover only to find nothing as the sky broke open rain pouring down on us I turned back to the cliffs she was gone as though she had never been there nothing more than a phantom of my imagination

When I first met Terri, she was quite wild still. She had been gathered into a pen along with perhaps a half dozen others, all of them from herds that lived in the prairie.

I was wary, knowing that they may not take kindly to my presence after what had just happened to them. For the most part they milled around me, eyes rolling as they trotted past, never letting me out of their sight.

It took a good half hour, maybe more, but eventually I noticed one of the mares was watching me with soft eyes. I could tell right then she would be kind and easy to handle, but I still didn't approach her.

When she walked up to me and rested her head against my shoulder, I reached up and pet her neck, still wondering if she would rear back. It was a foolish move, in retrospect, but I will always thrill at the memory of how she'd just sighed as though she was ready to go home and knew what a long ride lay ahead of us.

First Encounter: The mare trotted down to her favorite spot by the lake, which was just beyond the barn where the tame-horses lived. Stars lit up the sky, dark as the trees in the distance, which were black blurry blobs on the horizon. She lay down, staring at her reflection in the cool, shining water. She realized something was behind her. It was one of those creatures that enslaved and sat on the horses at the tame-horse barn. Filling with silent rage, she whipped around. The creature crouched, covering it's odd, hairy head with it's weird, fur-less front legs as she reared up. This creature seemed different. It seemed to want to be her friend. She heard it whispering, "It's okay, girl, calm down. I'm not going to hurt you, pretty girl." She set her legs down, oddly soothed by the creature's soft voice. She saw it clearer now, with shimmering gold hair and eyes that seemed grey. She leaned down toward it, still cautious. She was stone as it reached it's hoof, well, paw, out to touch her face. She jumped back, not knowing that the creature meant well. The creature crouched low to the ground, almost looking like a stone. She lowered her head toward it and allowed it to reach out and touch her, then stand up and slide a halter on her face and attached a rope to it, then led her to the tame-horse barn. She was afraid of this place like a mouse in a room of cats. She saw tame-horses of many colors, sizes, and even types! She was led to a small, closed space. The creature opened it and led her in, gave her some tame-horse food, and left the space, closing the door to the spot after putting a weird, blanket thing on her back. The creature whispered to the mare, "I think I'll call you Wavepool, after your waves of fiery attitude."
