born and raised in iceland, avery is a very soft spoken kalon. when avery was born, his english mother was kind and loving and a wonderful mama; it wasn't until she had a miscarriage when avery was 9 that her drinking became problematic. by this point, his mom was rarely sober and her drunkenness often lead to violent outbursts. growing up in the environment he did, he developed a panic disorder and has frequent panic attacks. his icelandic father played several different instruments in the national icelandic orchestra and wasn't home much because of the travelling, as well as avery never spoke up about what was happening because he be blamed himself as well as didn't want his dad to be upset, as she didn't drink when he was home.

avery always received top marks in school, and was offered a full ride to yale in america when he graduated high school. he declined the offer because he felt he needed to stay at home to take care of his mother; he always had a deep love of plants, especially ones that live in cold regions and planned to be a botanist. it came as a shock when she passed suddenly and tragically only a month after graduation. it left avery bitter and angry, and he also like he had thrown away the only opportunity he had to get anywhere in life. a year passed before he reapplied to a few different schools and in the time, he had held a job as a florist at a local shoppe in his home town. he didn't have many friends and was incredibly isolated. his father was worried, but never to the point of interfering.

avery reapplied to different schools and was accepted at cornell university in ny and the next month, packed up and moved to america. he currently lives in new york, working on his graduate degree. he owns a small flower store and wants to eventually work for an institution. avery and michael met soon after avery moved to new york, and he's been a (sometimes unwilling) mentor to michael since then.
