Name: Hieu "Pudge" ZajacGender: Male
Who shall adopt this rpw?: MirellaWhy are they a good choice?: Mirella is a good choice because she completely understands children. Being a munchkin herself, she totally gets when others pick on the "little guys," and won't stand for injustice towards the poor pups that have to deal with bullying. She wants only to help others, and has a certain love for kids, so she's always been a little more inclined to help youngsters rather than those who are much larger than her. She'll help anyone if the situation calls for it, don't get her wrong - she's just more likely to jump into a situation where a child is being hurt rather than if an adult were, as she figures the adult can fend for himself/herself far more easily than a kid could. Trained in martial arts, Mirella is a spy for an unnamed organization. While her work is dangerous and not one that a child would necessarily be welcome in, she is very willing to have a sidekick and any help in her work. She'll never force anyone to do anything, which is the main reason she's never had a partner in her work - but if the kid wants to tag along, who's she to stop him? She's never had a mate, and doesn't know if she wants one...but because of her love for children, she's always wanted to have one. Without a mate, she thought this impossible...until she stumbled upon little Hieu, or as she lovingly calls him, "Pudge." She would fight for him in any circumstance, and she knows that she would love him and care for him with all of her heart.
One Extra - Short Story: Mirella stumbled out of the bar, dusted herself off, and straightened her scarf, the bow thankfully still intact. She sighed, ruffled the fur atop her head, and trotted home, replaying the events of the night in her head so she'd be able to write up a report on them later. She clicked a button, and a tape recorder started whirring softly. "Six-hundred-sixteen and Seventeen-seventeen are out of the picture," she murmured. "I hope they recover quickly. As for me, Agent Five-hundred-forty-seven, I have a few cuts and bruises, and am exhausted, but no large physical damage was done. Along with the previously-noted two agents, I took down Big Bill, the notorious gang member tonight, the seventeenth of October." She sighed, shook her head to clear it, and continued. "Tomorrow I will be asking for a leave of office for about a week - think of it as a vacation, Boss. After all, I do good work. I need a break. I can't do this 24-7 anymore - I'm not a pup, like I once was." She shook her head sadly. "I wish I had that energy, but I just don't have it in me anymore. If you wanna fire me, go right ahead - I'll find work elsewhere. Thanks for the laughs. Agent Five-hundred-forty-seven out."
Three days later, her boss got back to her, giving her a three week vacation.
"Boss...that's far more than necessary."
"You need it," came the garbled voice on the phone. "You've worked your butt off. Take some time to find yourself and get your life solidified. Find a mate. Have a kid. I don't care what you do - just take some time for yourself, all right, Agent 547?"
"Yes, sir."
"When you come back, your hours will be docked. Your pay will not be. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes, sir."
"Good. Now, get workin' on that!" He hung up.
Mirella sighed in frustration. "I don't want a mate. A mate will only drag me down further." Suddenly, she got an idea. "But I suppose I COULD check out the orphanage again. After all, I did save their butts after I stopped that idiot who wanted to buy the place and turn it into a parking garage." She smiled and slipped on her scarf. "Looks like I'm outta here."
Mirella trotted into the orphanage and self-consciously flipped her scarf up around her face, keeping her ears from the loudness of the place. Pups were screaming, racing around and careening into one another. Mirella smiled as she watched them, but knew that her choice would never happen. She'd never be allowed to take a pup home - not without a mate.
The owner of the establishment saw her and trotted over.
Mirella almost flinched.
He looks like a bodybuilder. This guy's a MOUNTAIN! Well, I can take him down if I need to - no need to get worked up about this. His voice boomed as he spoke. "Hello! What can I do for you today, Miss?"
"Um...I'm just looking."
"What, you don't want to adopt anyone? Isn't that the point of anyone coming here?"
She looked down, pretending to be meek. "Sir, I won't get to adopt one here. Don't the laws in these parts state that you must have a mate to adopt a pup?"
He laughed. "You're thinking of the county in the next province! We gladly allow singles to take pups to help them out."
"And...and we're not required to give them back?"
"Nope - you adopt one, it's yours to keep."
She smiled. "I'll look around. When I find one I think will fit me and my lifestyle, I'll find you again, all right?"
"Sounds like a plan to me!" He patted her on the head and then boomed off.
She flinched and glowered.
I hate it when they treat me like I'm some child. She suddenly stiffened. Something was tugging at her scarf.
She looked down at a pup not much smaller than herself. She smiled, taking a step back. "Hello."
"Hi."
"What's your name?"
"Hieu Zajac. Are you here to adopt one of them?"
"Pleased to meet you. I'm Mirella. Yes, I'm here to adopt a pup...but why did you say 'all of them'? Are you all ready adopted?"
"No...it's just that...no one likes me."
Mirella frowned. "What, a smart pup like you?"
"I'm not smart, ma'am. I'm stupid. Everyone who talks to me says so."
"Oh? Why do they say that?"
"You'll just think I'm stupid, too," he muttered, looking down to the ground.
She placed a paw on his shoulder. "I promise I won't laugh. Please, tell me."
He sighed. "Fine. Well, I love to eat, see, and...well...the other kids think I'm fat."
Mirella was shocked. "What?"
"They think I'm fat. And...see...that wouldn't be a problem. I don't mind being a little pudgy, but...well, it's what I want to do in life that they think I can't do if I'm fat."
She frowned. "First off, you are NOT pudgy. You're not even FLUFFY, for goodness sake! These ridiculous brats," she said, muttering out the last sentence. "Secondly, what do you want to do that they seem to think is such a stupid idea?"
He smiled at her first sentence. "Not everyone here is like that - some of the girls are really nice. The boys? Not so much. As for what I want to do...I wanna be a secret agent. A...a spy."
Mirella's face went completely blank, devoid of emotion. She deadpanned, "You're serious?"
"Yeah. I mean, I see all those spy movies, and I wanna be just like them someday! Do...do you think it's a stupid idea too?"
Mirella couldn't believe her ears. "Hold up, here, squirt. You're telling me that you want to be a SPY? As in...those wolves that go out and beat others up for the good of society?"
"Yeah!"
"As in...the wolves who have to go through years of training to become truly experienced in what they want to do, such as marital arts, or something?"
"Yup!"
"And...THAT is what you want to do with your life? You're sure?"
The pup had a thoughtful look on his face. "Well, that's what I've wanted to do for as long as I've been alive. But, you know, if I change my mind in the future, I think that's okay, too."
Mirella sighed, suddenly feeling rather happy. "Well, it's your lucky day, kid."
He frowned. "What do you mean, ma'am?"
"I'm gonna adopt you."
His ears flew back in astonishment. "But...ma'am...you haven't even talked with the other pups! Are you sure you don't wanna talk to someone better than me? I mean...I'm sorta a loser..."
She threw an arm around his neck and led him towards the mountain of an RPW she'd run into earlier. "I'm positive. After we get home, I've got a secret to tell you about that job you want, also."
He frowned. "I like secrets and all, but why can't you jus' whisper it in my ear right now?"
"It wouldn't be a secret if I did that," she said with a smirk.
Three hours and a short pile of paperwork later, Mirella had officially adopted Hieu. She smiled as she trotted next to him, a small brown paper bag in his mouth - it held all of his most treasured items he'd kept throughout the years. Mirella glanced over at him and spoke. "You'll have a bed in a few days, kid. I have to order one when we get home. In the meantime, you can sleep in mine - I'll crash on the couch."
"Thanks," he said, his voice a bit muffled from what was in his mouth. "But I'm not 'kid.' Call me somethin' else."
"Hm...what about 'Pudge'? You know, after your nickname at the orphanage."
"I'm not really pudgy though, right?"
"Of course not! It'll just be an inside joke between us."
He smiled. "Okay. That's fine."
"Sounds like a plan, Pudge."
He smiled as he trotted beside her. "Hey, what was that secret you were gonna tell me?"
"Hm? Oh, that," Mirella said with a smirk. "I'm a spy, Pudge. I know for a fact that you can do whatever you want to do in life. And, whatever you do end up choosing, I'll support it. I just want you to be happy, okay?"
He didn't respond.
Mirella frowned, stopped walking, and looked back.
He'd stopped walking, and was starting straight ahead. When he opened his mouth to speak, the bag dropped from his lips. "You're...you're a secret agent?"
"Yup," she said with a smile.
"That means...I can be one, too..."
"That's right," she said slowly, wondering if he'd even been paying attention to what she'd said.
"Oh. My. Cow. Ohmycow. OH MY COW!" He said jumping up and down. "I CAN DO IT! I can actually be a spy!" He suddenly stopped, and with a serious expression said, "Teach me everything."
Mirella laughed. "All in good time, Pudge. All in good time."
