• she only vaguely remembers them, which somewhat distresses her
• her parents were killed in the tsunami
• she was swept away and passed out when a large piece of debris hit her - she has no memory of this
• rescue workers found her trapped under a piece of debris and worked to set her free
• was bounced around from foster home to foster home
• has a real soft spot for younger kits, and hated seeing them leave
• hesitated to trust adults for a long time
• lux's aunt and her wife, who had been wanting a child, adopted her at age 11
• she and her new parents didn't exactly hit it off right away - she was distrustful and weary of them
• elie tried hard to please them, always trying to be the best
• the stress made her crumple, and she had problems believing anyone could love her if she messed up
• it took years (and counseling) for her to finally realize she was loved and to really warm to her new parents
• lux became her best friend - they were inseparable (they're two years younger than her)
• elie's missing? nah, she's with lux
• they'd explore anywhere they could get into, only getting in trouble for it when they couldn't escape fast enough
• elie brought lux out of their shell, and lux helped elie relax
• feared the water for a long time because of the tsunami, even though she didn't remember it
• though she could swim, she was put in swim lessons to help her be able to not freak out around bodies of water
• it was the one area her perfectionist tendencies would slip - during swim lessons, she'd just curl up into herself and tremble instead of trying
• if someone put her in the water, she'd just sink until they rescued her
• she kept this up until one day when exploring with lux, lux fell into a pond and, being a weak swimmer, quickly became exhausted
• the fear of them getting hurt made her jump in and drag them out, adrenaline keeping her from turning into a shaking mess like usual
• she's never told anyone about this, and lux is sworn to secrecy as well
• that was when she realized she could conquer the water instead of letting it conquer her
• needless to say, her swim instructor was flabbergasted at the sudden change in her
• the water quickly became her safe space, where she could just float and relax or swim laps and get things out of her system
• she was on the swim team for a while and was pretty good, but found she needed to swim only for herself and not for others
• elie basically lived at the pool - all the employees knew her by name
• hiring her on as a lifeguard was a no-brainer as soon as she got old enough
• after a while, seeing just how good she was with kids, she was trained to be a swim instructor as well
• absentmindedly chews on her whistle often
• laps up attention - she's always surrounded by Kalons and doesn't really know how to be alone out of the water
• hosts game nights every weekend (and usually wins)
• it's hard to get her attention while she's alone, but she's a great listener and will be there for you 100%
• will drop everything for her friends, even if it inconveniences her
• a total flirt, but really polite about it
• has probably crushed on all her friends at some point
• oh my stars can this girl pine
• will back off in 0.02 seconds if she thinks you're uncomfortable
• never the one to make the first move
• vhs aesthetic
• lactose intolerant

Do they keep promises, or break them? Why?
Elie feels strongly about keeping her word, and will do everything in her power to make sure she doesn't break a promise. If she does so, it's because it's simply slipped her mind.
Are they a leader, follower, or loner? Why?
Elie's a leader, realizing early on that the best way to stay in control of a situation was to be the cause of it.
If they could change one thing in their past, what would it be and why?
Elie would let down some of her walls when she first met her adoptive parents, instead of spending years mentally distancing herself from them for fear of messing up.
Do they care what others think of them? Why or why not?
Elie let go years ago, when being shuffled around from foster home to foster home. After all, why bother making a good impression if you're not going to stay?
Do they tend to argue with others or do they avoid conflict?
Elie is generally pretty laid back, the one who'll hold your bag while you fight but not get involved herself, but the one thing that'll get her riled up is people badmouthing her friends. Talk bad about those she cares about, and all bets are off - in a second she's abandoned any pretense of a calm and collected attitude and is going at it.
Are they more spontaneous, or are they the type that always needs a plan?
Elie likes to look as if she's the on-the-fly, spontaneous type, but in reality she's always planning and thinking ahead. This doesn't mean she's not up for adventure - far be it from her to refuse something new and exciting as long as she has a bit of time to feel like she's not being tugged this way and that by others.
Do they have any quirks, mannerisms, habits, or other defining characteristics?
Elie absentmindedly chews on things when she's thinking, part of the reason she always wears her lifeguarding whistle around her neck.
