-Whispers- Reserving with the name Neta and my character Hana (From The Royal Mirage's
Adopt-A-Deity) :d
---
Name: Neta
Gender: Genderfluid (No pronoun preference)
Orientation: Panromantic pansexual
Personality:Calm, patient, and easygoing, Neta is the sort of Vaiki who prefers to simply go with the flow - A sharp contrast to the likes of the eccentric Adam, hot-blooded Brooke, shy Ryth, basement-dweller Zekrom, gentle Clement, and the... Well, to be blunt, slightly cruel and controlling Lauren. They are, in a way, the most balanced of the group, sitting in the sort of middle ground between the others' personalities. In a way, Neta is average - Comfortable taking life in neither the fast or slow lanes, but rather the middle lane, overtaken by some but overtaking others. In their free time, they enjoy wandering about the parks and forests near their home, and occasionally traveling a bit further out and staying with friends in search of something new to shake things up for a bit.
Let me tell you 'bout my best friend:Hana was... A weird one, for sure. They'd met while she was traveling, bringing spring to the world as she did twice every year. While their initial meeting was messy, they quickly hit it off once the situation was resolved... Though she's certainly a bit out there!
I was eaten by a Venus flytrap once:Those plants were... New.
Neta had been visiting this new family for some time now - About a month, perhaps. In that time, they'd explored much of the local land, from the rocky outcroppings by the beach where the lighthouses sat guiding ships to port, to the vibrant and lively park in the center of town, to a popular hiking spot in a mountain a short ways north, and even to the decaying woods behind the nearby graveyard only accessible through a hole in the chain-link fence, stuck between the growing lot of headstones, the old train tracks, and the highway running nearby.
But this? These giant flowers and twisting vines bigger than they were? This was definitely... Different.
Stepping carefully over the marshy wetlands fed by the stream from the nearby pond and doing their best not to get sucked down into the mud (But still managing to get muck up almost to their knees with every step), Neta made their way over to the strange mass of plant growth. "Huh," they commented, running a paw over a long stalk of... Grass? It was as tall as they were, but it seemed to be grass nonetheless. How odd.
After a minute or two of walking around the outside of the growth, examining the cluster of vines and blooming flowers, some of which they'd never even seen before, they slowly moved a bit of foliage aside and pushed forward into the center, seeking some sort of source...
And then, just like that, walls started to close around them, clamping down around them and trapping them in the mass of greenery. They yelped as the mouth of the plant snapped shut, pushing against the walls in a vain attempt to get out. The plant closed tighter.
A Venus flytrap..? It was massive! Oh, this was bad. Very bad. Neta wondered how long it would take for the plant to digest them as they did insects... Then shuddered, deciding the subject was not something they wanted to consider just yet.
"Hello?! Anyone there?! Oh, someone
help!" they called, trying their best not to wriggle about in panic as they yelled. "I'd really rather not be eaten today, so if you can hear me, I'd really appreciate it if you'd lend a hand!"
After a moment or two of silence, they heard a slight rustling from outside the jaws of the massive trap, and then felt a slight jostling. "Aw, jeez, are you stuck in there? Sorry, sorry! Aw, man, it's the bird all over again..." A feminine voice rang out from the foliage beyond the plant's walls. Neta had no idea what they were talking about, but if they could help...
"I'm over here! I think I stepped on a flytrap, and it's massive!"
"Oh, jeez, it really is the bird all over again..! Hang on, I'll try and get you out," the voice called. Then, without any warning, a large jolt hit both them and the plant, knocking them down. The plant clamped down tighter. "Sorry, sorry! Are you okay?"
Neta winced, lying half on their side from the impact. "It's, ah... I'm alright, but it's a little tight in here..!" they responded.
"Oh, oh jeez... Don't worry, I'll get you out..!" For a brief moment, Neta thought they heard whisperings from all around them. "Oh, not now, you! I already know I messed up, can't you see I'm trying to fix it?!" the female voice snapped... In response? Perhaps they were going crazy. Did Venus fly traps produce hallucinogens?
They didn't have time to contemplate that thought, however, as another jolt knocked them aside again. The flytrap clamped down harder. It was becoming rather suffocating inside the plant... They supposed it was a good thing they weren't claustrophobic. "Oh, c'mon, stupid plant! Let go!" Another impact hit them, knocking them entirely on their side. Their head was starting to hurt. "Ugh... I'm sorry! I'll take care of this, I swear! Just... Just gimme a minute! Ah... Maybe... Hrm..." The other didn't sound particularly confident in their abilities.
"Uh... Maybe if we could cut it off at the stem..?" Neta suggested, doing their best to stay calm. Did Venus flytraps even have traditional stems? Well, this jostling and knocking them around didn't seem to be helping all that much, that much they were certain of. Anything would be better than that, really... Except, perhaps, for being digested. They shook the thought out of their head.
"The stem..? The stem! Of course! Just gimme a minute, I'll take care of this!" Just after they finished speaking, Neta felt some slight vibrations buzzing through the plant. Was it them cutting the plant from its roots? That made sense, they decided.
They thought they heard another whisper.
"Incredible, a total stranger knows your abilities better than you do," it spoke.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever! Who cares?" The vibrations stopped while they spoke. Were they... Gnawing on the plant to separate it from its source? "What matters is that we can fix this this time!" The vibrations started again.
After a few minutes of gentle shaking, Neta began pushing against the walls of the plant. It didn't budge... But it didn't seem to be clamping down tighter on them any more, either. That was a good start. "Any luck getting out?" the female voice called.
"Not really... But it's not tightening when I touch it any more!"
"Really? Great! Here, let me just-" Neta felt some pressure on their stomach... Were they standing on top of the plant? They looked up at where the mouth closed together... Its teeth? They didn't know the term. But they did know that they were seeing real teeth, sharp and prying the plant open as best they could. Neta joined them, struggling against the plant's grip as they slowly but surely pushed the flytrap's jaws apart. They were soon able to see their rescuer - A large pink wolf, female, with a small green gem on her forehead and flowers blooming down her back. "Oh, thank god - Thank me? Oh, whatever! It's great that you're okay! You are okay, right?"
With some effort, Neta extracted themselves from the plant's grip, immediately shaking themselves off and stretching out as they stood upright. "Ugh... Yeah, I'm alright. Thanks for the help," they responded, looking over at the wolf.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, no problem! I didn't expect anyone to notice me down here, heh. Looks like I oughta find better hiding spots when I stop for a rest. This has happened more times than I'd like to admit." She chuckled awkwardly. "My name's Hana. I'm the goddess of spring!" She paused. "Well,
a goddess of spring. There might be others, too? I dunno."
Neta looked at her in confusion. A goddess..? They couldn't tell if they were serious or not. "...Right. I'm Neta," they responded. "So... You're a goddess? Really?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah! Pretty cool, right?" she grinned. "I'm, y'know, still getting the hang of my abilities and all, and they still get out of control like... Well, that-" She gestured to the Venus flytrap. "-but I'm getting better at it! Gar's been helping a lot!" She looked around. "Oh, I know! Here, look at this!" She jumped out from the mass of plants, and Neta followed, trotting over to a patch of frost still hiding in the cool shade. "Watch this." She grinned at the Vaiki, then placed her paw on the frost patch. In an instant, the ice not just under her paw but all around it had vanished, and tiny flower buds had begun growing in its place. "Neat, right? So every six months I go around the world and bring spring to a different part of it!"
Neta watched as the little plants burst into bloom, tiny dandelions popping up and glowing bright, sunny yellows, little violets sprouting from the earth and blooming vivid purples and indigos, forget-me-nots pushing up between them and growing little flowers in sky blues and whites. "Fascinating... I've never met a goddess before," Neta stated. The idea of deities being real... They always took them to simply be stories. "Well, it's an honor to meet you, your grace." The smaller creature bowed.
Hana stared at them briefly... Then burst out laughing. "Ahaha! Oh, for Spectrum's sake, you don't have to worship me or anything!" She grinned. "I mean, aside from the powers and everything, I'm just like anyone else!" She nudged the Vaiki, snickering. "You're a pretty cool guy, Neta. We should hang out sometime when I'm not running around changing the seasons! Heck, maybe you could come with me, if you want! Gar's always busy with school while I'm out doing my job, and I could use the company~"
Neta raised an eyebrow. "Well..." They paused, taking her offer into consideration. "...As long as you try not to let those plants of your eat me, I might just take you up on that!" they answered, somewhat jokingly.
"Great! Then it's settled-" she announced, quickly diving underneath them and lifting them up onto her back.
"Woah!"
"-We're gonna be friends from now on! Happy to have you along for the ride!" She laughed. "Hope you like traveling, 'cause we're gonna be doing a lot of it! I still need to take care of all of Canada, and if Grumpy McBear is still wandering around spreading winter, we're gonna have a lot of running to do!" She turned back towards her new friend, grinning as they clung to her back, and took off running.
This would be an interesting friendship indeed.
