The city seemed to be awfully quiet and empty.... No matter how hard anyone looked, they couldn't seem to find even a pawprint,
but before they could call it quits, a loud beeping split the silence. Following the sound led them to an area that they had missed,
hidden away in the rubble. Inside, there were dozens of large, strange looking cats with matted fur and odd eyes.

Rusty Hazard Cats were actually an earlier version of the currently hazards, renamed after their failure. They're slightly taller, standing at 4 and a half to 5 feet and tend to be unstable. Their faces are sloping, eyes smaller, and ears shorter. Screens are often covered in static, flaring spastically, or not working at all. The only things that come from their grates are plumes of smoke accompanied by sparks or simply jets of flame. Due to erroring systems, they're prone to make loud beeping noises or blare warning messages beyond their control. Their tails lack the beam of energy shown in the later version. Instead, they have a cord rolled up in the metal shell. Rusty hazards have very high metabolism and find it difficult to eat enough to keep up, so they're often skinny with small frames. However, if they're able to plug their tail into a working outlet, their hunger will fade away in a matter of minutes. These cats are known to have "ugly" mutations such as snaggleteeth, unnecessary limbs, and patchy fur. Heterochromia and somatic mutations are common as well. Among rusty hazards, though, mutations are looked upon highly. Because of this, fourth children often find themselves in places of power and admiration. The rusty hazard line was not supposed to continue, but because some of the cats escaped, they effectively made themselves a growing species, much to the annoyance of those trying to halt their expansion.
