1. habitual sleeplessness; inability to sleep.

Hark is an insomniac, but that's okay.

Sometimes, while watching her client's kids play with one another or while sitting on the couch while a kid naps, she'll wish she had the ability to just..crash, like small children seem to do.
Up one moment, running around causing havoc, but totally willing to surrender to sleep the next before getting right back up to play again!
And despite the dark circles, and the tired fog that glazes her eyes, Hark can't help herself but to smile and maybe even laugh a bit to herself when her kids do resist a nap; claiming they aren't tired or don't need sleep.

Despite her paint's abilities, though, Hark doesn't use it on anyone...much. She doesn't like using it on herself, even, and instead resorts to taking normal medication for her sleepless nights, weeks, months. She doesn't feel right - almost selfish - using such an ability just to be able to be unconscious for a few hours.

of course there's some nights, when her body resorts to crying to get rid of all those chemical imbalances resulting from her not sleeping; or when she gets mad at the universe as a result of not sleeping and its 4 am for the third night in a row, where she wishes she weren't so reluctant about her paint.

Eventually, though, Hark usually ends up heeding to her born ability. Usually not until she can't stay awake anymore safely, or when the kids start asking if she's okay, she'll curl up in a nest of blankets or on the couch and just suck on the tip of her tail. Childish, really, but those few hours of sweet slumber make all the difference in Hark's work.

    >> about the user
i'm balinator 3000 [previously balto. oops], a fellow rpw owner but a not-so-active member of the community. I've been apart of the species for two years, and own currently 64 rpws of my own, all of who are listed here. And maybe Hark here will be my 65th. I tried out in his original contest, although had no time to finish my form, and he is dating one of my rpws, so already having some sort of connection to the character, I felt the need to try out, which is good since I do have the slots. He would be a well loved rpw in my group, and another character for me to develop that's different to the rest.
Anyways, enough rambling, lets move onto the form - I hope you and any guest judges enjoy it!

    >> the basics
I have decided that for my form, I of course would have to keep Hark's original name, Harold, since it just seems to fit. His middle name is James, and his last is Parker. Hark happens to only be a nickname for the wolf, although he does go by it more then his full name - not that it bothers him. Hark is a plain male, and is twenty-five years of age, being born in the year 1990, August 27th. He is demisexual, although he is taken as it is. He is also a bit taller then average, ranging around 5'7 to 5'11

    >> personality
Hark is your average, usually very awkward wolf, even as a babysitter. He is that one that usually has no clue what to do when it comes to awkward situations, and whenever he may be put on the spot he can't really say anything, for he would be caught off guard. When is comes to the kids, it is whenever he is in a tough situation of what to do, or if the kids are demanding to go somewhere - which doesn't happen often. He seems to do just fine in crowds, unless he gets asked questions here, there, and everywhere, then he blanks out. He does have the answer...probably, but he can never be asked out of nowhere about anything, otherwise, no matter how hard the babysitter may try to put it into words, or even pictures, he can never say the right thing - not even with the help of his paint, which does help sometimes.
Of course, to be a babysitter and do what Hark has to endure, you have to be a fairly friendly guy - no snapping, no being mean to the pups or generally anyone around you, it can't happen. So he has to keep a friendly, upbeat personality, especially with the pups to try and make them seem more happy that their parents more-or-less handed them off to someone else to go to work or take a small break. He has to be happy to keep them happy, for he knows from experience that pups don't usually like to see someone being sad or...generally not happy, as it may make some of them sad...most pups.
Harold is also a rather playful wolf when he has to go and look after the pups he babysits. He usually takes some games with him and thinks of new ideas of which he can try and keep the pups entertained with. He finds this to be good, as he can usually keep up with the majority of pups when they have a lot of energy, and he tends to usually be the one to initiate the fun when it comes to his time with Sam, as he tries to get her to lighten up even more. But it also helps with him having more energy himself, and to continue going on and getting through his day everyday, which each day can turn out to be exhausting or a vacation pretty much, depending on how much he had to do within his schedule that day.
When it comes to talking about something stressing that might've happened that day, or if the feelings are getting a little too much, Hark can be there to listen if he isn't busy with work. But even then, he always tries to make time for anyone who needs it - close friends, Sam, family or even a friend he may not know for long - perhaps even one of the parents he babysits children for. He just sits there usually and listens - and although he is awkward with feelings himself, he does try his best to comfort whoever is having troubles, which usually is him listening. But sometimes he will say words of encouragement to the trouble wolf, if it is needed, and if he can think of the right thing to say.
Surprisingly, Hark does tend to be a little loud...especially when it comes to babysitting. Not only does he tend to have to shout over some of the kids to be heard, but even when everything is well, he has to get a bit loud to make sure that who he is babysitting heard him - depending on their age, of course. This can sometimes take a turn onto his life out of work as well - he sometimes gets too loud at the coffee shop he works at, or even if he is just with Sam or some friends. But he does it usually without even realizing, so he does stop when its mentioned to him by someone...if it's mentioned to him. This wolf could go on for hours and not realize that he had been a little louder then needed.
It is known for Hark to be the fearful type of wolf - although it doesn't happen much, and only when he is around certain wolves, when he turns fearful it isn't a pretty sight. He can be found trying to hide, and although this is tough considering his height he does somehow manage it. This is usually when Sam will have to step in and try to solve the problem of whatever is scaring him. And he is also usually never scared when he is around any of the pups he may care for - for he really can't be, or he couldn't be a babysitter. Sam tries to help him with this when he is around her father and uncle, if he ever has to be but it never seems to help him, and if anything, makes his reactions even worse.

    >> occupation
Hark is your neighborhood babysitter - although thank goodness he doesn't have to work for a certain family, he is the babysitter that most other families would tend to recommend, if they are in the area. Although he hasn't made it as an official business, it certainly seems like one - most days he does have a family or two to babysit. He is a good candidate for babysitting, with his awkward but child-friendly temperament, and his peach-smelling paint which calms children down if they get a bit too rowdy, he seems to have it all in the bag...of course, unless the child hurts themself, then he tends to freak out a little too much. But apart from that, he is careful with his work, and is great with kids. Making this job perfect for him. He currently also has a second job, which he dedicates every second day to - a volunteer at a kindergarten, a job that also revolves around kids and being patient with them.

    >> pets
Harold owns a dog - a grey and white great dane by the name of Carlos, although he is only a pup. He is already up to the height of Hark's knees but is less then a year old. He got the pup from the shelter - or rather, Sam did with great reluctance. The rest of his littermates had been adopted, so he was the only one left. He is a puppy that seems to have trouble around every corner, and he can't seem to keep his jaws off of anything. Hark has been trying to get the dog trained, with little progress, so he'll just have to deal with the chewed couch arms for now until Carlos grows and hopefully, calms down.
Apart from the dog, he does live with another animal - a calico cat by the name of Lily. Of course, she doesn't really belong to him, but rather Samantha. The adult cat seems to prefer the taller wolf, somehow, and can be seen following him around and taking any chance to get to a high place and jump onto his shoulders. She also happens to tolerate his dog to a level, giving Carlos a good scratch from time to time. Hark just manages to tolerate the cat, but appreciates her non-destructive company.

    >> relationships
Samantha - This shorty of a wolf happens to be Hark's girlfriend, of a few months by now. She's a ninja like the majority of her family, and was one of his old babysitter projects a few years back, when she was no where near as nice as she can be now. Although she does have her father's flare, and he does call her a shorty - which seems to annoy her a little too much - he loves her. They like to just lounge around at the end of the day, cooling off from what probably was a tough day. She's also the only one of her family that he feels completely safe around, although not all of her family are bad apples, she truly is the peacekeeper for him to be able to stay alive around them.
Sasuke - No, no, and no. This guy scares him to bits...there have been times where Sasuke can manage not to throw a warning look at the younger wolf, but rarely. He is very intimidated, very afraid of what Sasuke could do if he did anything wrong. Sam and some others insist that he isn't really that bad, that he can be nice - although Ida did point out he wasn't the only one who had to suffer it. But suffering the 'never-welcome' feeling or not, if he had the choice he would stay ten miles away. He would hate to get on the guys bad side.
Madeline - One of the other family members Hark has gotten to know of Sam's family - one that wont try to hurt him at any meeting. He has no clue how someone like her ended up with a jerk like Sasuke - but he doesn't judge. He's rather awkward around her...maybe because he is dating her daughter, and by anyone else's view that does seem a little...weird, to put it short. But he has never felt a bad vibe from the older wolf, and she can be good company if she comes around, or if he and Sam go over...but from what he's heard, he also knows not to get on her bad side.
Minato - Harold doesn't really know what to think about the oldest brother in the family. Thankfully, he doesn't have the jerk-like personality or glares like his father, but at the same time he still does like to be careful because...well he is the older brother of Sam, no telling what he could really do if he did something wrong. He's never really spoken to him a lot, since he's never really been around, but that doesn't mean he can't be too careful...or maybe not careful enough. He would like to get to know him more, however, and Sam has said that he is good to talk to.
Idabelle - She's a rather...strange one. She's hard to read, and Hark never really knows if everything she says is real or just her joking about. She comes up with the most dangerous ideas, and seems to be the wild one. Even when he was babysitting Sam and she came along with an idea, even though she was older, he would try to convince her not to do it because then Sasuke would have his skin if something happened, most likely. Ida has never really spoken to him about the whole thing between him and Sam, and even if the two sisters don't get along he doesn't know how she feels.
Cassius - Cassius is one of the only ones in the family to think, which is something that Hark likes, in a friend way. Despite him only being called to babysit the youngest child of the family, Cassius seemed to always be around, and although not able to care for Sam himself, he stuck around and make it a little more bearable for the babysitter. The two have a fair bit in common, and seem a bit similar, both liking to read books and being a little awkward when it comes to big situations. Cass is always there for a lending hand when Sam gets too stubborn or hurts herself, and Hark is surprised how he puts up with her attitude.
Aldora - Hark never really saw much of Aldora, Cass' twin sister, although has seemed to only hear good things about her from Cass himself. From what he has gathered, she is a nice and sweet wolf, always trying to calm her siblings if it comes to an argument, as she doesn't like them (usually caused by Ida or Sam, the arguments). He can imagine her being a very sensible wolf like her brother, and even with the times he has seen and spoken to her, Hark has never really had anything bad to say about her, thankfully. He however, would like to get her more.
Itachi - To Hark, Itachi is just like Sasuke. Of course, he hasn't seen the older wolf nearly as often, although when he does he knows to run. He can't see how Sam admires this wolf, her uncle. He's very scared, and knows that if Sam even mentions going to see him, to pretend being sick...or going and digging himself a hole and hiding somewhere. He wouldn't even speak to him if he was given money for it, he feels very nervous for whenever he does meet him, aware of his abilities and what he is capable to do, like Sasuke. If he had the choice however he would go far, far away.

    >> history
Harold James Parker was born to two wolves in the country of Siberia. His mother was born and raised in this country, while his father had come from America, moving here due to his work placement when they were both in their teens, and they met, thus in making Hark, and next, two younger siblings.
At the age of just five, when his two younger siblings were three and one respectively, his mother vanished without a trace, leaving their father to raise the young pups by himself. Of course, he was upset at what had happened, but he never showed it around his children, being there for them and taking as much time off work as he could, just to care for them and give them as much love and attention as they would get from two parents.
Growing up, his father would spent a little less time with them, and more at work - for he did have to make money for them to live, and the economy wasn't that great. So sometimes, if no one else could care for them, Hark would step up and care for his younger siblings. Even despite his young age, he seemed to be a natural at it, his paint coming in handy.
So he grew up with the other three, and as he did, his father trusted him more and more to care for the two younger pups. And Hark developed an interest in what they called 'babysitting'. Of course, at first he thought you actually sat on a pup - but after caring for his siblings and seeing what it was really like, he warmed up to the idea...and didn't freak out as much.
At the age of twelve to thirteen, Hark's father received a new work place in his home country - America. Of course, the pups all agreed to the move, even Hark, as the cold snow was starting to bother him. And it took a while to get the funds to afford it - up to a year to move everything and the family, but they made it, right into the warm weather, where there was much more life then Hark had seen in all his years in Siberia.
Hark, and his siblings, were then put into school with the thanks of new neighbors who offered to show them around and even drive them there - to the relief of his exhausted father. And at the school, Harold fit in surprisingly well, he made friends fairly quickly, and did fairly good with his grades with the help of his teachers and father.
He would often spend his outside time in the area made for the pups just starting school, showing them the ropes and looking after them like he would his own siblings, stopping any bullying of another pup and helping the shyest gain confidence, and so the parents of these pups heard only good things about the young wolf, and that is where his passion grew.
He soon began to babysit around the neighborhood, once parents saw how good he was with children. The pay wasn't great, only about three dollars an hour, but he took great joy in caring for the younger ones, having fun and being able to handle their situations well, and making great friends with many. He was recommended to even expand to outside the neighborhood - but never did, as this was only really a side hobby while he was in school.

Soon, at the age of eighteen, he was called up by a wolf saying she had a teenage pup that was rather...difficult. This was Hark's first job. He accepted the challenge, thinking it wouldn't be so hard when he got there, due to his experience...oh how he was wrong. That is where he met thirteen year old Samantha, a rather rash, troublemaker of a child back then...if only he knew the risks of even trying.
He met the pups mother, who introduced herself as Madeline, to where he learned that she, along with the majority of the family, had a mission to go to and the youngest couldn't come along - this was by far the longest he had to babysit, which came to be about a week in total. He was still living with his father and siblings at that point, so after he told them where he would be, he crashed at the house...bad mistake.
Sam was by far the most difficult he has ever had to deal with - not only does she go out on her own, but it seems trouble follows her, and even if she didn't try, she seemed to hurt herself one day and break something important the next, and she absolutely refused to take any paint to calm down - she even refused any drinks he had made, due to the fact she probably knew he put paint in it.
While she hadn't been loud, caring for her had been mentally and emotionally exhausting, although he could see that towards the end of that week, that she did warm up to him. Only slightly, of course, and she never admitted it. Upon the arrival of Madeline and the family, she seemed to act a bit harsh, probably still hurt she hadn't been able to go on the mission.
This is where he met the rest, including Sasuke.

The older wolf had given a glare that Hark would never forget, even as he got payed and sent on his way home...just something about it sent shivers up his spine, and he knew, then and there, he wasn't liked.

He became their regular babysitter for when Sasuke and Madeline had things to do - mostly for Sam, but sometimes he was in company of Cass, Ida, and the other two, depending on what they had to do. Over the course of four years, he worked on his relationship with Samantha, and soon enough, the two considered each other friends - not only to his surprise, but also to Sam's. She became less hostile, less destructive, and seemed to calm down around him. But the two years soon slowed down as he was needed less and less, and soon, they stopped when Sam had to leave.
She was soon at the age where she would go from being an apprentice, to being a full-fledged ninja. This usually meant she needed to go on a mission, and for this, these missions tended to be long. The longest it could take was up to three or four years, and the shortest just short of a year. She had come to find him, and had said goodbye - short and sweet. He, by then, had his own apartment, but kept in contact with his family.
He saw her off, watching her go back to the HQ. His first real babysitting job was over, she was grown up.
Over the course of the next week, Hark felt something...missing. He kept in contact with some members of the family - mostly Cassius, but due to not hearing from her he just felt like he wasn't whole, and he had no clue as to why.
He actually brought it up to Cassius at some point, who had moved into the apartment next to his, and the darker wolf only shook his head, although he knew what it meant, he never told Hark - he only told him that he'd figure it out for himself.
Hark had no clue what this meant, but over the next few weeks he did begin to understand - but at the same time, no understand. It was strange for him, but thoughts of her were always at the back of his mind.
Harold soon decided to do the next best thing he could do - so he got a ring, a simple silver ring which seemed, on the outside, have no meaning. But on the inside, it had Samantha's name engraved in it, he seemed to finally understand how he felt.
He lived the next two years seemingly in boredom, having other clients to go to but none of them seemed exciting enough. None of them had such a troublesome or tricky child, none made him worry as much.

But after two years, he found Cassius knocking on his apartment door at almost midnight, the wolf had nearly fallen asleep, and opened the door, nearly tripping over his feet and having no clue what was going on...although he seemed to get wide awake once Cassius woke.
    Samantha was coming back.
She was already back - at the HQ, however, getting patched up. But she was back, after two years, and according to Cassius she succeeded, and became a full ninja.
He was excited, a lot more then he'd thought to have been, and Cassius saw this, before he suggested they hold a little 'welcome back' thing for her at Cass' apartment, to which the babysitter agreed to, having no clients the next day.
So Cass left him to go to bed, and Hark, too, went to his bed, but could not sleep. The next day's possible events on his mind. He thought of what he would say...what she might say. He did, near dawn however, fall into a restless sleep, only to be woken five hours later by Cass again - they had to get ready.
Hark and Cass spent about an hour getting the apartment ready and set up - Cass had contacted Sam and told her where to go, and the two could only wait for when the time approached. Sam arrived on time.
Cass had answered the door, almost flinging himself onto the younger and smaller wolf - despite them not having a very close bond, it seemed that even Cass had missed her. Sam had grown a bit, and seemed more calm and mature, more like the adult she was. She had more scars, which were bandaged up, but the face was the same, as Hark remembered.
Sam was a bit surprised to see Hark there, not being told he was a guest, and they did hug, although it was a little awkward for Sam herself. It seemed almost straight after, she acted a little...off. Something was wrong, although Hark had no clue...he had thought it was probably from what happened on the mission, or perhaps she was still tired, not noticing the glances, or rather, glares, Sam gave him.
A little into the 'celebration', Hark had turned to go where they had set up food, only to get a pretty strong blow to the back of the head. It had hurt - rather badly, and he had stumbled and nearly fell, not sure what had happened.
Hark had then turned, to see it had been Sam, who was ready to hit again before Cass had pulled back. Although they were usually hidden by her hair, he could see the smaller wolves eyes blaze in...anger? He was hurt, and confused, to which Cass had said something to the smaller wolf - she snapped.
She had gone to hit Cass, too, almost did, but soon stopped herself. She then seemed to take a step back, before Hark approached her - maybe she would confide in him and tell him what was wrong? He had grabbed her leg arm, with the hand which held the silver ring.
He caught her gaze, glaring at the ring before looking towards him, and what was wrong seemed to come together.

Hark had asked Cass to leave them alone for a moment, which he did, being left in the tension, the angry silence. Samantha then only growled, asking why he had bothered if he had that. Not that he blamed her, for she didn't know the reason why he had this ring.
But what had confused him was her reaction. They had never promised each other anything, yet, it seemed, Samantha thought something was going on between him and someone else, like she was perhaps jealous?
He had to tell her the reason of the ring, when he had gotten it and why, and once she understood, he could see her calm down...she looked even a little guilty.
After a slightly long talk, the two made up, both understanding, and proceeded to hug it out when Cass came in. Only for him to get a shoe thrown at him by Samantha, making his retreat for a little longer.
It was soon after that day that the two got together - although both were unsure and a bit awkward at first, mostly on Hark's side, they now enjoy each others company more then ever.

    >> regular clients
Hark currently has a few families he babysits for. The first is for Fafnir and Latsyrc, he babysits three of their seven children - Ora, Nox, and Lumos. Although Ora is a bit older, and is usually out when he goes over, he takes great care when looking after the youngest twins of the family. While Nox is a little mean, bossy and stubborn, he puts up with it, as she happens to be the complete opposite of her sister, Lumos, of which Hark can consider to being perhaps his favourite client, out of all the pups he has babysat. While he is a little fearful of some members in the family, Latsyrc assures him, and makes sure she is the only one at the house to greet him when he's called, as well as being the one to call him.
Bruce and Kaerts are the second family he babysits for, and by far, the most frequent. Despite the fact that they only currently have a single pup, Suicul. But this kid turns out to be a little nightmare if Hark can't get him what he wants. This is the kid that would cry just to get attention and anything he wanted, since his parents do spoil him. Hark can keep him occupied with little to no things, not even games - babysitting him involves running around after him, cleaning his messes and keeping track of him in public, which can be hard since the pup doesn't like to go slow, and he waits for no one to catch up, even with the risk of getting lost. Hark can safely say their child is a daredevil, and troublemaker, and probably the kid that makes him freak out for his safety the most.
Another family of which he helps with is with two other wolves, Guppy and Mikasa, and he helps out with their two only children, Hari and Unnamed. These two are relatively new for him, and he has only cared for the pups twice as of so far, but he really does like them. Since they are a little younger then the other pups he babysits, they aren't as active and don't get into too many things - which is also thanks to the parents proofing their house and locking everything. But Hark finds caring for these two to be very relaxing, and like with Lumos, he enjoys all the time he spends with these two young ones, considering it a bit of a break before they get older, and unfortunately, more destructive like other pups who are older then they are.
Hark also babysits for Antonio and Arthur, or rather, their two children, Abraxas and Unnamed, care for him. He enjoys these pups at times, and sometimes fears for their lives, as he does with most cases, but he makes sure to be extra careful with these two. With their fathers both having time-consuming jobs, or places to be, if another family member can't care for them it usually falls to Hark. Abraxas he worries for a lot, especially when the teenager goes out a lot without his permission, but his brother is the opposite, he doesn't usually have to worry about him, although makes sure to check on him frequently anyway. His paint also seems to freak Abraxas out a little, and no matter how hard he tries, he can't get the other wolf to calm down and take some, making him a hard case.
He can also be found sometimes caring for Elesa, who is left in the care of her adoptive parents, Janus and Kyle. Since the two are stay-at home parents, they don't need Hark too often, but when they need to go out somewhere or Elesa is getting into their hair, they hand her off to Hark to look after for a few hours while they relax and take time off for a while. Elesa acts like Abraxas, a rebel, and always doing something she's not suppose to, no matter how many times she may of been told off. But she is a bit calmer and easier to handle when it comes to his paint - as long as he slips some in her drink - if it be softdrink or an energy drink, she calms down and often falls asleep under the effect of his paint, giving him a while to sit back and evaluate why he agreed to babysit her.
Hark can also be seen sometimes babysitting for Danny and Pisces, caring for their youngest child Taurus when the parents themselves are unable to. He does tend to sometimes have a bit of trouble caring for him, but sees him as an interesting pup - especially due to the fact he has a 'dark side', so he does have a bit of fun tending to the pup. He isn't the most difficult, much to Hark's relief, but he is on the list of the most interesting pups...somewhere. And since this pup is a bit younger then the others he cares for, he is a bit more easy to distract and amuse - Harold usually only has to bring along a game or two, and that would keep the pup amused and content until his parents arrived back.
The last two wolves who call up here and then to be babysat are Wisp and Nirvelli, both of who are adopted and cared for usually by Minunn. While the wolf can usually care for the teens on her own, she may call Hark once or twice a month to help out with them if they act a little off and rougher then usual - but due to the two being almost adults, he looks at them as younger friends, more then someone he's suppose to babysit. He lets them have more range on what they can do then he does anyone else, since he expects these two to know what they can and cant do, and they seem to be much more mature then the majority he babysits for anyway. If either get a little upset or have a bad day, he can even go there to be vented to or to be the shoulder to lean on, but usually its all good times with these two.

    >> why did I try
Why did I try out...there are many reasons. One of those, is that I did try out for him when he was originally ufa, and although I couldn't finish my form, I still adored the character, and even liked what he became, and knew that he had gone to a good home. I started to love him more when we were roleplaying him and Samantha, and in turn, they eventually became a ship. He was a bit part of developing Sam's character - so I'm not only trying to keep a ship I really love together, but because he is a big part of her development in their relationship, and if they weren't to be together no longer I'd lose a lot of her personality, and generally how she is - and how she in turn, in my form, impacted him. I would hate for this ship to go, for the headcanons to go, for me to lose a part of Sam's character, and in turn, see Hark with someone I may not get to know very well - of course, I also know this time he will go to a good home - but I had to try, and even today, I feel a great connection to him.

"Some day, you'll regret it," a voice had once told him quite bluntly. Of course, at the time, Hark had shrugged it off. Harold, although much more well known as Hark, is a Rainbow Paint Wolf and was a teen when this had happened; he's DMAB, identifies as anoboy and is panromantic asexual. Anyway, he had continued on his way calmly, proceeding to his next appointment at some wolves' house (perhaps it was those weird parents, Hershey and Nefarious) to look after their kids at the time.

Now, that was a couple years ago. Hark has gotten everything under his belt. He's known throughout a small neighborhood that's tight knit as the unofficial babysitter. His soft voices accompanies his tranquil nature, as he is not known to raise his voice nor yell. Of course, Hark will step in as needed, but tries to find a compromise within in reach of children. He's even certified by the Red Cross! 10 USD is about all Hark can scrape up an hour from babysitting (unless Hark is lucky enough to get a bunch of rowdy quadruplets or he has to babysit for a long period of time), so as you can imagine for someone not going to college, it's not the best salary.

Yes, he did not go to college. Hark did not think it would benefit him because he really didn't know what he wanted to. On top of that, his family wasn't the richest and he hated giving them that kind of burden. It's not that he's incompetent... Hark is actually fairly smart. Well, psychology is his strongest point (he had taken classes in psychology from his sophomore through senior year in high school), which helps him better understand the children he has babysat. He had been a B and C student throughout school, which isn't necessarily bad. He could probably do a bit better, but at the time, Hark had been suffering from depression. His depression is chronic and along with psychotherapy, he takes medication for his depression.

Hark has befriended a wolf name Kimi within the last few years. The two had met in a coffee shop and Hark was particularly down at the time and with Kimi's openness, she quickly aided his dilemma. Kimi has babysat before as well, so the two bonded quickly. However, he was soon struck with an epiphany about Kimi! In reality, he didn't know all that much about her. He only knew what she wanted him to know... it's strange, isn't? You think you know your best friend, but in reality, you know only know what you want them to know? And to think they think they know you, when you don't even know yourself?

Anyway, Hark found himself approached by an ominous entity. Accepting the mysterious creature's invitation, he found himself with another job besides babysitting...

Oh, how the parents would cry with distaste! They could not know for their children could be in danger. Alas, Hark would never give up where his heart belongs. And no, it is not what you are thinking. It is probably his heart that obliged him to accepted. Weak hearts never pass up a job like this.

Hark was offered to be apart of an elite, secret team of wolves. Started by the government, their organization unofficially nicknamed "Project Ptarmigan" after their reclusiveness. This project is specifically to produce and eventually manufacture the future of learning.

The project was first started by an unknown wolf a few years ago after having an epiphany on the modern schooling system and criteria. He thought about how he could reform some of the struggles he and his peers had throughout school. He had suffered from low self-esteem in his work and intelligence (although if you have seen the work, you'd probably realize this guy was pretty smart). So, he began tinkering with a device in his garage. With many failed attempts and power outages that soon followed, this caught the eye of the government. After hiring him, they gave him state-of-the-art materials to work with... well, for the most part.

Imagine it: you didn't have to go to school to learn. You had all the knowledge of the world in your mind. Your mind was one of many archives of everything in the known universe. At any time, you could mentally browse through it and know the answer. Not only that, but your brain was enhanced to be able to comprehend this knowledge. You wouldn't have to worry about your brain being overloaded, as you had much room to spare in your mind. You don't forget anything. The best part is that you don't have to go to school. You might have to go to a different type a school -- a more practical school that teaches you how to live, survive and thrive in life.

It could be a reality. Many of the best and brightest were soon hired to work on this project (including Kimi). However, there was soon a dispute between the government and the founding man. He, the founder, left and took his brilliant mind with him. He disappeared completely and no one knows for sure what happened to him. Some say the government took him out, while others think he set off to make the device with someone else. Either way, the project became unstable and haphazard. The people were lost because they didn't have their guide. That was when the government began getting desperate.

The device is not an easy contraption to master. The original intent was that it was an implant that hooked up to one's neurons. How it would be powered, how all the information could be placed into such a small space without overwhelming the host, how to turn on the unused part of the brain and how new updates would globally be downloaded to each device still remain to be found to this day.

Hark was recruited a bit after the founder abandoned the job. I'm sure you're wondering why he was approached. He's probably not the brightest bulb in the box, but Hark did hold a position that the project was interested in. Trust. He held children's trust and kids would be their target audience. Hark was known throughout the town for being the coolest babysitter around (not really, haha), so with a little persuasion, Hark could probably get some kids to use these devices.

Of course he wanted to help the kids, but something about it all seemed... off. However, before he could further second guess, Hark was startled to find that Kimi was in on this. He became a bit worried what she might think if he chickened out or worse, didn't want to help society, which is what he had always set out to do. So, like that, Hark joined and like that, his judgement was clouded. He was confidant and ready to work.

Alas, Hark was in for it. He signed a contract that he neglected to read in its entirety. So, he was stuck with what he was direct to do. Hark's calm over children would not be needed just yet, so other arrangements were made.

Like mentioned before, the device's design is quite complex and ever-so-changing. Hark gets to do the undesired work (he's required by his contract!) of retrieving the rare and valuable materials. Hark sometimes has to travel across the world (although this is rare) to fetch materials for the prototypes. His paint comes in handy a lot because most of the time, when he gets these parts, it's not legal. Hark often is forced to used the black market, but also resorts to other methods. He's escaped danger more than once from his scavenger hunt for materials. It's really only a matter until one of the owners of the one-in-a-billion materials catch up to him.

The materials are not just rare, but often off-world materials with unknown capacities. The scientists of the project hope to find a suitable match for the device. Some have proven to be unsuccessful (some even a bit explosive, heh), okay, actually a lot have.

Hark has been flipflopping between the two separate lives daily. He's been remarkably calm in both situations. You probably wouldn't be able to tell... oh, but someone will find out. Who it may be remains uncertain. Until then, Hark lives in secrecy.

Hi there, I'm Vox Nihili. You can call me Vox, Nil or Snow! Honestly, you can call me whatever floats your boat. I'm not too picky. Anyway, I'm one of the admin assistants for RPWs and I've been around for 2 years now and going on 3 this May. I currently own 35 lovely RPWs (although this may downsize in the future?).

Alright, I just wanted to put a little message here, I guess... I'm not going to explain to you why I should have him or what I'll do with him. I'm not going to tell you what is wrong or right, nor will I predicate the future. The only thing I can promise is that he will be loved and he will not be forgotten.

I know I took more creativity liberty. I did that on purpose; I took a risk. I know that Hark wasn't preferred to "mean"... I suppose he's more controversial, but I'd understand it if someone saw him as "mean." Mean is a relative term as it just depends on your definition. I say this a lot and it's not a very original saying, but it seems to stand to reason: there's a yin to every yang. Take it how you want to. I also wanted to address some parts that might... make people question me. I only talk from experience. I am actually certified by the American Red Cross as a babysitter (I took a class on it) and around here, the price I mentioned per hour is actually about accurate. I've worked with kids before and I do to this day. I know enough that I do think that I could accurately portray his character. I know fairly basic psychology as well. Trust me, I would never make a character that I'm not comfortable with. I can assure you that I am confidant enough to get his character right.

Anyway, I purposely did not write about his beginnings, but rather what has been going on in the last couple years with him. I generally like to as it often shapes characters throughout their life. However, I got to thinking... Shouldn't you judge someone on how they are now? I know, I get the whole character development thing (and I'm sure he will be developed further with me if I win him), but I don't want his history to be what singles him out. I'd rather make a character that is unique now.

Yes, my form is short. Yes, I did not flat out tell you his personality. I did flat out tell you some brief information on him that is quite self explanatory (his name, gender, etc). I figured instead of telling you how he is, I'd show you more in a short story format. I'll let you decide what kind of person he is: good, bad or both. I also tried to tie in some little... messages, I guess you could call them. I'm not sure if everyone will pick up on them, but that's okay. I don't expect everyone to. However, if you see something that seems a bit of interest, all I ask is that you think about it a bit. Maybe you'll think, "wow, I never thought of that!" or "that's kind of silly..." or "what have I been doing with my life all these years?" or whatever. I'm not going to tell you what specifically it is.

Okay, I know this part is a bit long, but I feel the need to explain myself why I choose to leave some misconceptions. I'm usually not one to like misconceptions (especially about myself), but I wanted to step outside my comfort zone. I guess I've been doing that more nowadays, but that's okay.

There's one other thing I want to address: Sam and Hark's relationship. I'll be honest, I'm a bit hesitant about this relationship only because I've changed Hark quite a bit, or at least I feel that I have. I'd be willing to work with their relationship and give it a shot (assuming Balto is willing to meet me halfway), but I can't make any promises. I know it's very much preferred, but this is the one aspect of him that irks me. I would like for him to have a thoroughly developed and active relationship, whether that means it's with Sam or not. If I win, I'll talk with Balto about it.

Finally, I just wanted to wish everyone a quick good luck! There's so many good forms that scare the squids out me. Good luck!

This art piece below was made by me (a long time ago from when I first tried out for this rpw) and it shows Harold lying down with a symbolic pup yawning/yowling atop his back. It's not any specific RPW, but it represents both Harold's special talent/charm with youngsters as well as his secret hope/dream to someday have a family of his own.
