Flynn was feeling quite embarrassed and not a little sorry for himself as he looked at his current predicament. He'd left the castle that morning, full or excitement, looking for an adventure...or perhaps even a quest he could complete? Being a prince, it was somewhat required of his status.

But instead of adventure and excitement, he'd found himself being chased by a rather large yet beautiful dragonfly, and had run smack into a giant spider-web hanging between two branches! At least he could content himself with the fact that the dragonfly had also been caught, so he wasn't alone in his misery.

He'd tried pulling himself free, but it hadn't worked. Then he'd tried kicking at the webbing to see if he could kick himself loose, but that had just resulted in him falling into a rather undignified upside-down position, at which time his sword (which he'd been trying to get his teeth around) had slid out of it's sheath and fallen blade first into the ground beneath him.

After another sesison of struggling, Flynn sighed pathetically and resigned himself to his fate of becoming a spiders dinner. As he was preparing himself to mope some more, he heard a noise beneath him, so he craned his neck to have a look, thinking it might be the spider he got ready to fight...being a prince, he couldn't possibly go down without a fight!

But as his eyes adjusted to their upside-down angle, he saw a pretty little mare standing below him, she was smiling, but not in a mean way. She noticed him watching and asked if he needed any help? At which Flynn huffed out his chest and said he could handle it himself, but thank you very much for the offer.

The mare laughed and nudged his sword, asking how he was going to get free when his weapon was on the ground? Flynn deflated his ego a bit at that and admitted he really didn't have a clue, but it wasn't very seemly for a prince to be rescued by a damsel. The mare laughed outright at that, and told him not to be so silly, then she delicately picked up his sword in her mouth and nimbly hopped onto the branch holding the web.

She cut along the top edge of the spider-web until it collapsed onto the ground below with both Flynn and the dragonfly ending up in a rather messy heap. Then the mare hopped down and cut the webbing until Flynn was free enough to take his sword and finish the job. Then they both freed the dragonfly, who seemed quite happy about not being someone's dinner and hurried to fly away.

Flynn put his sword away again, and with great flourish, he bowed his thanks to the pretty mare and introduced himself as Prince Flynn of the Shining Castle in the East. He was quite smitten with this lovely mare, she was brave, intelligent, much more sensible than himself, and she was really quite pretty. He asked if she lived nearby, but she said she had no home and was a traveler.

Flynn thought this was quite wonderful, and asked her if she might like to come back home with him and be his princess? She laughed again, and said very politely, No thank you, but if you're going on any more adventures, I would like to join you in your travels? Perhaps afterwards, I might follow you home, just to see what your home is like, mind, I'm not committing to anything.

Flynn laughed that time, and thought she had a wonderful sense of humour as well. He agreed to continue adventuring just so he could spend more time with her. He asked her to choose a direction, and she pointed west, toward the setting sun, let's go that way, she said. And so they traveled toward the evening sun...to be continued in the next adventure of Flynn and his companion?
