Do their eyes remain open or closed? They are open. Lainey wants to learn how to walk without sight, so she practices often. She wants to learn this because she has very sensitive eyes. Her eyes are so sensitive because her pupil is shaped differently. As a result the light enters her eye in a different way than that its supposed to do for a mako, this makes her eyes sensitive. It happens mostly if Lainey is in a busy area with many objects and moving people at the same time. If she is exposed to these stimuli for too long she'll feel dizzy and light-headed. This does not mean that she cannot like colours, in fact she loves them. She simply cannot deal with them for too long. This means that she can still assist during shows, but not every day and not for more than half an hour at a time. She is following training to increase the strength of her eyes, but that training is not very effective, so she'll probably always keep her eyes closed most of the time.

This is what her eyes look like if they are opened.
PersonalityLainey is a very energetic and adventurous girl who likes to do whatever she wants whenever she wants. Her parents are part of a traveling circus that tours all over the United States, but they have also been to Europe. Laney loves exploring and always leaves the circus during preparations to go into the city or village and meet with the children there. Since Laney is EPS, she is young and she would be unable to defend herself well if something would happen, so her parents are all but happy that Laney goes out on her own. What her parents are unaware of however is that Laney has learned skills to evade and avoid strangers. Laney is very observant and she's cautious enough to make sure the coast is clear before she ventures somewhere. She is able to do this because she has exceptional hearing due to her keeping her eyes closed so often. She is also smart enough to know where she should and should not go. This attitude has saved her a couple times before, although she would never tell that to her parents. Laney has no sense of time at all, and she is so carefree that she will not worry even when she should. Because Laney likes to explore more than anything else, she also shirks her chores and other responsibilities. When she's caught doing so, she'll try to charm her way out of her troubles. She succeeds in this too often, which makes her somewhat spoiled. When Lainey does not get what she wants, she'll sulk or even throw a tantrum. All the while claiming that she's "too old to do kiddie chores anyway" she is, after all, still a child.

EPS?Lainey has known she would not grow up for a couple years now. When Lainey first stopped growing, her family still thought she had gone through a growth spurt before, and was now calming down. However when she had still not grown after four months, she was taken to the doctor where she was diagnosed with EPS. Lainey's family was devastated by this news at first, because they'd never be able to see Lainey grow up and become an independent adult. This would mean that Lainey would never be able to do chores bigger or more dangerous than what she did now, so her family began to fear for her safety, taking all work away from here and treating her as if she was weak. Lainey herself however did not like this at all. She felt that her condition was not a disability but just something that complicated her life somewhat. Lainey loves playing and hates responsibilities, so although she struggled with being EPS for some time, she came to terms with her condition relatively easily. Since her parents reacted so differently, Lainey rebelled heavily, doing everything her parents forbid. It was around this time that Lainey started going out to explore her surroundings and sneak out unnoticed. After much conflict with her family, Lainey finally managed to make them understand that she was the same person and they stopped being so overprotective. Although Lainey can do the things that she wants again, old habits die hard and the mischievous traits that she acquired during her rebellious period stayed with her, making her more difficult to handle than before.
Why Balloons?
(source: here) As was mentioned before, Lainey is part of a traveling circus. Many children of performers are also taught skills they can use later in life. Children like to do what their parents do, and Lainey is no exception. Lainey's father is an acrobat and her mother is a knife thrower/swallower. Her parents decided that knives are too dangerous for a small child, especially since she has EPS, but acrobatics were allowed. Unfortunately Lainey soon discovered that she her talents did not lie with acrobatics. Because Lainey is young, she clumsy when using her hind legs, and her reaction speed is not fast enough to be able to pull off dangerous tricks, even after several years of practice. Lainey also has less balance than average mako's due to this. After a visit to a physical therapist, the therapist concluded that Lainey did not have the necessary strength for acrobatics and that she had to give up on pursuing her dreams. Lainey returned to the circus, her dreams crushed and in low spirits. That is when the clown showed up to make her smile. 'Mr Clown' as she called him had always been good at making her smile, and she loved his tricks and wacky mannerisms. That day Mr Clown taught her a cool trick: how to fold a balloon. Lainey enthusiastically tackled this new challenge and discovered that, although her hind legs were weak, she had surprisingly dexterous front paws. Lainey quickly mastered several different balloon animals and began assisting Mr Clown during his shows, with the stage name "Mini Zooki", more commonly referred to as Zooki. The clumsiness that prevented her from doing acrobatics make her an excellent clown and she is now Mr Clown's trusted sidekick. She often makes balloon animals to hand out to the children during the show and afterwards and loves the attention she gets. Due to this, Lainey is always seen with balloons and she will not stop until she can't use her paws anymore.

This Makoatl seems to wear a inner-tube and floaty wings- Are they scared of the water? Why?Lainey isn't scared of water, it's more that she's not able to swim well enough yet. She can swim in a pool, but only if the water is shallow enough for her to stand when she gets tired. The sea's current is too strong for her to go in without her inner-tube and floaties. Because she loves water and she loves balloons, she learned how to fold balloons so she could make her own floaties and inner-tube. This way, she can also change her floaties if she wants to, since she loves colours and wants to keep up with the latest 'floaty-fashion'
Hobbies- Lainey loves exploring and balloons a ton, but these are not the only things she likes to do. She also loves to bake. This stems from her being Mr Clown's assistant. Throwing a pie in his face is fine and all, but someone has to bake the pie first. Lainey is the one who bakes it. Baking a pie for throwing is different from eating one. Since the pie that is thrown has to be soft enough so it won't hurt the victim. This required some practice, but Lainey can now bake pies and cakes with several flavours. Her favourite is still good old apple pie, the first she ever learned to bake.
- Next to baking Lainey also likes to design accessories. Although it seems unlikely with a personality like hers, Lainey actually really loves fashion. She is not very skilled at making clothes, since the only thing she learned about clothes were to make them too big (Clown's clothes) but accessories are a different matter. She can currently make a few balloon accessories, which she wears as floaties, but she is also learning to make her own bracelets and necklaces from beads and pieces of fabric. Her sense of fashion itself is not that great, she is never up-to-date with the latest trends, but she loves to wear things just because she likes them, such as colourful and bright things.
MemoriesOver the years Lainey has met many children all over the world. Lainey has the uncanny ability to remember the names and faces of all the creatures she befriended. She keeps a big diary with filled with scraps and loose notes that holds all the information about these children. Lainey feels that it is important not to forget others. This is because Lainey has few friends in the circus itself and being lonely or forgotten is something she absolutely hates. This is also where her headband comes from. She wanted something that would match her fur colours, yet still remind her of flowers, which she feels make excellent gifts. Her headband was given to her by one of her most treasured friends, and she always wears it wherever she goes. Lainey really loves flowers but has no garden of her own, so she takes any flowers she receives or picks and sticks then in her hair and the headband. She then hands those flowers out to people who she feels need them. This has earned her the nickname 'Flower Girl'. When Lainey visits a new place, she usually heads straight first for those children who are quiet or stand alone, to make them feel more included with the rest. After she's formed a group, the children go on exploring trips or 'adventures' as Lainey calls them. These trips are some of her most precious memories that she will always hold dear.
