Rules and Breed Standards wrote:These guys usually range from 12.3Hh-14.2Hh (or .3 depending) and are strong little guys. They used to pull coal from mines, so they needed to have stamina of a quarter horse but power and accessibility- making them muscular and stout. So please when entering, enter by the standards of breed! Thanks all!<3

meeting your horse-
I walked down the isle way of the large AIWP barn. I looked around at all of the poor abused horses. One of them I stopped at to read the sign on the stall door. It said 'Della: overworked, whipped, and dehydrated.' I continued down the hall until I reached the office door. I walked in and the owner of the barn stood up from behind the desk and came over to shake my hand. "Hello, I'm Alice. Are you here for an AIWP?"
"Yes. I am here for the one called Madison."
"Okay, if you would like to meet her, then follow me."
We walked back down the first ally way and and took the first left turn. I saw so many abused horses that I felt so bad for. I followed Alice down to the last stall on the left side. I looked down at the sign which read 'Madison: dehydrated, starved, and chained.' She wasn't all that filthy, though she had a scar from the chains on her neck. "If you would follow me back to the office so you can fill out the paper work for this girl, then she is yours. I will help you load her in your trailer afterwords, okay?"
After returning from the office, Alice and I walked down the same isle to find Madison was opening her stall door. "Madison," Alice said. "Oh, I forgot to mention that Madison will try to open any gates that don't have a lock on them. Alright, let's get this gal into the trailer and get you two on the road."

introducing them to their new home -
I opened the trailer door into the fencing leading to Madison's stall. She trotted out gracefully and stopped before the stall. She looked back at me and turned back to go to the trailer, but I had already closed the door to the trailer. Madison turned around and I grabbed the halter that was on her and urged her forwards to go into the stall. She stopped for a couple of seconds and took a step. I was glad that her stall was a sliding door so that she couldn't open it or get out. She repeated the last action of one step then waiting a while. When she was in the stall, I quickly closed the door and locked it. She turned to the food and water and started to eat and drink. You could tell that she was hungry because she kept eating for at least five minutes. I'm glad that I put extra food in her stall for today and I probably will put extra in until her regular size comes back. Madison seemed to like her new home here, and I'm glad that she would settle in quickly.

gaining their trust -
I came into my barn early in the morning to check on Maddie. All of her food was gone and she had a bit of water left. I went to get the food and opened the small barred window above her buckets to pour in her food. I went to the wash stall hose and brought it to Madison's stall. I hovered it above the water bucket and went to turn the hose. After I finished filling her feed and water buckets, I went into the tack room to grab a treat.
When I returned to her stall, Madison was awake. "Good morning girl," I said. "Today, I think I am going to take you out to the paddock. But first, I will need to gain your trust."
I opened Madison's stall door and stepped in, closing the door behind me. She backed away, so I held out the treat that I got out of the tack room earlier today. She looked at it, hesitant to move, she took a slow step forward. I reached my hand out farther, but she stepped back. After waiting for five minutes, Madison decided to take a few steps toward me. She took the treat out of my hand and let me pet her. "Good girl," I said. "Let's get you out to the paddock."
I lead Madison out to the paddock and locked the gate. I stood there for a while to watch her for a little while to see if she would open the gate door. She did, but I took her back to the paddock and this time, put an actual lock on the gate so that only I could get her out. She trotted over my way and nudged at my face. I pet her on the muzzle and left her in the paddock knowing that I could trust her and she could trust me.

bath time -
I lead Madison out into the wash stall. She seemed very excited to get her first bath. I turned the hose onto warm and sprayed it into a bucket. I had put soap in the bucket as it was filling up. Maddy looked back at the bucket, being curious of what that sound had been. I turned the hose off and threw a sponge in the soapy substance. I reached in and grabbed the sponge. Then, I went and placed the sponge onto her back. She stood calmly as I worked the sponge up and down her body. She held her ears back as I started to sing a soft tune to myself. I guess she liked the tune. Next, I lathered shampoo and conditioner into her mane and tail. She still was standing still. I turned the hose back on and rinsed her now shiny coat off. She was so happy to finally be clean. I poured the warm, soapy water all down her fur coat and took my jell scrub and rubbed it all up and down her coat. Then, I turned the hose on and rinsed her off. She was finally clean and I got to see her nice, beautiful coat.
