Meeting the Horse
The rusty, blue trailer slowly pulled into the driveway and back up into my indoor arena. The loud clang and clinking of the horse bucking against the metal trailer rattled and echoed in my mind. I knew horses like this weren't perfect, but I could tell she was a wild one. I could hear it. Her loud whinnies and neighs rang in my ears as I bit my lip and said hello to the handlers. The handlers's faces showed one thing in particular I couldn't get out. Their dark eyes and baggy cheeks showed a nervous look. Maybe I should have been more nervous. I peeked in through the small slits in the trailer side, coming face to face with a terrified golden gaze. The handlers all ran out from the ring and blocked the small gaps on each side of the trailer. All that stood between freedom and an arena was a few men. I noticed them push out a man, who seemed a bit shrimper from the rest. He stared at me and looked at the rattling trailer. "Uh-I got it." I said with a small smile. "A-Are you sure, Miss? This mare is a bit wild.. She likes to run, b-but she is friendly when she calms down. W-We all loved her, but she can get pretty stressed out. S-She turns into a different horse." I know I would regret it later, but I did it. "No, it's perfectly fine. I've worked with a few horses like this before." Without any other words, the man scurried back with his group and have me a look of gratitude. How bad could this horse be?
I unlocked the trailer and slowly lowered the rusty, creaking door.
Bam!
The mare came rushing out in a blizzard of bucks, rears, and leaps. "Woah!" I yelled and slowly walked after the mare, but left her some space. "Shhh.. Your alright." Like a magic trick, the mare suddenly stopped and stared at me. It was an understatement to say that I was extremely relived no one got hurt and the mare was ok. I could see her black coat peaking out from the coating of mud with a small hint of white. Even with a mane plastered in some sort of mixture between dust and dirt, I could tell it was made of fine strands of silver. The mare slowly walked towards me and stared me straight into my eyes. Her golden gaze was intimidating. In a blink of an eye, she snatched the lead role from my hand and went galloping off with it. "Hey, come back here, troublemaker!"
After an hour of this "game", I raised the white flag and sighed. "Ok, ok, you won for today.. I'll be back tomorrow." I walked out of the arena and threw in some hay and water for the night, but not too much in case her immune system couldn't handle it yet.
Wanted something a little sassier, so her show name will be "Troublsome Tomorrow" and her barn name will be "Chaerin". Thank you!
