I woke up, the sun streamed through my window. I stood up and looked outside at the empty horse yard, it took me a while to realized she was gone! Staring at the damaged horse yard, i rushed outside to see my mustang grazing on the grass through the fence near my other horses.
Slowly I walked up beside the mare, she threw up her head and galloped off, lucky the front gate was closed.
I left her to de-fuse and went to set up the make-shift horse yards.
I swung open the gate, and went to find the smart mare. I rode for hours when finally, I found her, grazing at the river on the sweet grass that grows in between the rocks closest to the sweet mountain water that flows from the mouth of the river, I dismounted my gelding and went over to her, I talked to her softly "Hey Midnight, hey girl, it's okay i'm just gonna go beside you, okay?" Slipping the rope over her head, as the rope tightened, the mare threw up her head and reared, knocking me to the ground.
My dog ran straight to me on the ground, "Get her" quickly I ran over to my bay gelding, swinging on to the Quarter horses back, tightening the reins and galloping after her, "To me, Drill! To ME!" I told the dog, but the young kelpie just kept going. "Drill! GET BACK!" hearing the tone in my voice the dog dropped back to me. This mare was fast! Easily out running my fastest horse, I had to play it her way.
Going wide around her, pushing her towards the metal yard "Easy does it, settle Sticky, whoa." pulling him back, I eased the speed on the mare as we cam to the yards. "Get round 'er" I commanded the dog "Okay, push her." "Get back" the dog mustered her into the yards.
Quickly I got of my horse and swung shut the gate. putting on the latch and making sure it was firmly shut. I put Sticky into the yard next to her, thinking maybe they'll be friends. I left the horses to go fill up the feed buckets.
After putting chaff and grain into the two buckets, I walked back over to the mare. Putting the food buckets over the fence, one for Sticky and one for Midnight. Sticky went straight for the food, putting his nose in it and resting his body against the fence, Midnight went near it, seeing sticky enjoying it she tried it too. At first she took a small bit and pulled back as if she expected it to hurt. Then digging in, enjoying it herself.
Well, better go fix that broken fence in the round yard.
