I brought in a new Nera mare, I seem to have an addiction to keeping a whole herd of mares. She's been super shy so I've been spending hours each day just sitting in the pasture while she's avoiding me, trying to show I'm not a threat. Today I slip into the pasture early in the morning and sit next the her as she lays asleep on her side. I wait for her to wake, it takes a while, but she sleepily shifts her head into my lap and I very tentatively stroke her cheek. "Hey there girl.....~" I croon quietly at her. Of course, that's when she wakes completely and gets up to shift away from me. I allow it, but it still hurts a little

I approach the mare, who I've now named 'Deepest Despair//Grimm' and bring her into the barn, I put her in the crossties and rub her neck in the way she likes before I step back and get the testing saddle out so I can tack her up. She's surprisingly compliant while I put the silly thing on and strap her into it. She's also surprisingly compliant when I lead her to the indoor arena, but when Ilet her go she just stands there, looking confused and uncomfortable. Her expression is clearly asking me why I do this to her, and I gaze innocently back with a sweet smile on my face. Eventually she starts walking around, scratching at the saddle with her hind foot. I continue to watch.
