While it does not literally contain such, it has become a psychological thing: if she does not have it with her, it makes her physically incapable of performance and will. All of her self-confidence and comfort disappears, even though there is no difference besides whether or not she is in possession of the comb.

"Have you heard of this story? Well, this is my story. Once upon a time, legend foretold I would pick up something on the ground. It was a comb. The end."
It was a long time ago when her shadow, Ana found her, in an abandoned house. The house owners had been driven away by raiders; and Yun had belonged to a little girl around the age of five.
"Long story short... I made a pact with Ana, and I got a life in return, instead of lying beneath the rubble in that miserable house."
When Yun climbed out the window, she was struck by an impulse to collect something to remember this day. As she landed on the ground, Ana having changed his form to the original snake-and-mirror in her hand, she found a undersized comb on the ground.
"I remember that. The colours of the comb were faded after being in the mercy of nature for so long. But as I bent over to try pick it up, I accidentally dropped Ana on the ground."
"I bit her for that."
As Nakano's shadow fell to the ground, the handle of it's mirror shape touched the comb. From that part, a brilliant red ran across the comb, like paint running.
"But there were two patches left untouched, black, in the shape of a snake. I do not know if it was done by Ana. Perhaps the mysterious magic that allowed us to be alive in the first place."
"If I did, then I do not know how. I'm much eager to learn."
"Of course. And brand more objects with your shape."
"Yes. You know me well."
"It now serves as a memory. It reminds me of the first day I came alive; red for a beginning and black for an end."
"It is fitting as well. Curled hair is bad luck for women, at least that's what I heard from some of the older shadows."

"How did you come to associate that comb with independence..."
"What you said. Once. Long ago. I don't remember. Only low-ranking women in Feudal... Where was it? Jepan? Brush their own hair, since higher-rankings have servants."

the comb is an item she feels an odd connection to, she suspects it was important to her in her past life as a samurai's wife. she keeps the comb close to her as it carries an odd sense of power for her, she keeps close at all times as it enhances her sword skills and she thinks that in her past life it was a memento from her family.

The comb is the last memory of one of her best friends who was broken beyond repair. Before Manami came to the dollhouse, she traveled with another doll all around Japan. Her friend, however, was taken by a bird to the nest where the bird's chicks pecked her friend to pieces before realizing that they weren't edible. Manami was able to avenge her friend, but hasn't been the same since.

The comb, a beautiful comb, in which was given to her by her Sensei, the one who trained her and built her up into the woman she is now - she doesn't know where her Sensei is, she went travelling three weeks after she had finished her training with him. But this comb, she never leaves without it - especially on formal occasions, in which she uses it to place her hair in a nice, elegant bun.
