On the Surface

When you first meet Grace you are confronted with a quiet horse who seems to keep her distance from everyone. Though she is kind and polite in interactions there is definitely a wall with a clear separation between you and her. She is slow to trust and can seem a little aloof in her actions. If she feels like she doesn’t belong or that others are ganging up on her she can quickly become a cold and defensive. Most people think she has a higher than thou attitude and that she doesn’t care for anyone but herself due to her seemingly emotionless reactions. Due to this she tends to end up alone on her own side of the paddock.

Soul of the Heart

But the persona she puts up with those she doesn’t know is only a mask. In actuality she is only quite shy and is afraid of getting hurt. She longs for close friends and friendly interactions but doesn’t know how to go about it due to her fear of rejection. She feels as if keeping herself separate is easier than baring the pain of dismissal. Once someone gains her trust and friendship they find a very caring and loyal soul. Once she trusts she trusts with her whole heart and will do anything for them. She is calm in a crisis and extremely smart which would make her an excellent leader if she could overcome her fear of others. She is a wonderful listener and is always there if a friend needs her. She can be a tad over protective and she is stubborn when she puts her mind to something. Whatever she does she does it 150%. If she is wronged, she will forgive but never forget and she can be a tad skittish around that person until they regain her trust again. Over all she is a beautiful horse who once you get passed her walls will give you her whole heart.

As a Foal

Grace was born on a small Tolter Farm in Scotland. The owners of the farm had been breeding and selling tolters for generations and they took excellent care of the beautiful filly and her dam. As a foal Grace knew nothing but love under the watchful eyes of her mother. She would frolic next to her dam in hopes she could get the older mare to play and when she could she would race around the paddock with the other foals. It was a carefree existence filled with the spontaneity that only children can seem to come up with. When she wasn’t with her mother or the foals she was with a boy by the name of Colin. Though he wasn’t her owner he had taken a liking to the spunky filly and had grown to see the boy as a friend. They would spend hours together and eventually Colin was given the responsibility of training and getting her more used to human interactions. As she neared her first year she noticed with slight alarm that she was slowly being distanced from her mother. Confused and unsure of the reason behind it she became more nervous and let herself get closer to Colin who was her constant companion.


As a Yearling

By about a year old she was mostly weaned from her mother and hardly ever saw her. It was a strange thing, she still thought and she still felt quite alone at night when she really felt the absence of her dam. The only time she ever really felt confortable was when Colin was there and so even when he was just in the area she would follow him as far as the fence would allow and call out to him. It became a sort of game, her trying to get his attention while he tried to go on with his duties around the farm. As the year went on he continued to work with her training her further all the while having fun. She was a quick learner and became very well accomplished under his teachings. By now she had turned into quite a looker and many people were interested in the yearling. As she neared her second year the owners of the farm sold her to a buyer in the United States. Colin though helped load her up for the journey was clearly upset. She remembers having tried to comfort him even though she didn’t know what the problem was. With a pat he left and closed the door. And that was the last time she saw him.

As an Adult

When Grace arrived at Treelake Stables she was skittish and confused. Everything was different and everything had changed. Most of all Colin whom had stayed with her through it all, was gone. It took her a while to settle in, but she even then she was slow to trust. She kept herself separated from the other horses and though behaved as she was trained was skittish around the people too. As time passed she seemed to open up a little bit making friends with Magnus and Alec as well as excelling in her lessons from Cate and Jay. Slowly her friendly demeanor and trust in others started to return, but she was still afraid that she might lose those she cares about again. Even so she enjoys the company she has come to know and even has started to have feelings for a stallion that had been trying to catch her eye.
