"Colt" enjoying some of the shade closer to the trees on side of one corner of the paddock.
Today was the day I finally came into his boundaries, without the blockade of fencing between us. I believe i had caught his interest, and I had to move fast before he lost it again. I finished feedings, and grabbed my water bottle, sliding through the slats with a little 'oof'. I plomped down, not looking at the horse who was warily eyeing me from under the tree's shade. Even in mid-morning, the day was turning out to be hot. I was leaning against a fenceboard, ready to slide under it if I needed to.
I sat out there for out there for hours, taking the occasional sip from my no-longer-cool water bottle. I watched as my colt made his way around the opposite side of the paddock, no longer staring at me as though I was an affront to his presence. He was munching on some grass shoots, just as I started to pick up humming silly disney songs. I'm not a skilled singer like my siblings, but I can carry a tune- and a hum was a good way for me to make sure I was relaxed and wasn't giving off a tense vibe to the mustang. I shut my eyes for a moment, and was greeted to a grass-scented hot breath of air against my face. One eye squeaked open, to peer up at the pink muzzle shoved in my face. Staying still, I let him give me the sniff-over.
I slowly moved my hand, and surprisingly, he didn't shy away. I didn't venture out to touch him, but let my hand hover near his cheek. Continuing to hum, I offered my hand for him to sniff, careful of the teeth. While this was the precaution for dogs and cats, surely it wouldn't hurt with a horse, right? He blew another hot breath onto my palm, before giving it a slobbery lick. Well, I guess all this heat and sweating was nice for someone! I softly snorted, and cautiously reached up, starting to rub at his forehead and cheek. He flinched once, but quieted back down, letting me stroke and rub at the center of his forehead, where a soft whorl in his coat was.
He left after a few minutes, and returned every few minutes, grabbing drinks and quick snacks in between. After a few hours, the heat was getting to me, and when he moved off once again, I slid out from under the fence boards. I was given a look that almost seemed... hurt or disappointed, before I brought him back some hay. Giving him his dinner, I departed to finish evening chores, coming back to check on him. He didn't approach this time, but he didn't seem to be bolting about anymore.
No, just don't fit him...
OOC Notes: A few days behind, but my schedule is slammed. I'll be back this week to do more!
