Day Three- June 24th, 2014

"Colt" after his dip in the water trough!

Unfortunately, my time with my mustang today was cut short by an issue over at the "Stallion Sanctuary", which is really just a silly name for our area for the stallions. Across a large bunch of hay, crop pastures, and thickets of trees, was another half of our stables, kept apart to avoid the drama between mares and stallions excepting during breeding times. We've made a few exceptions; (Coyote and Jig are near impossible to break apart sometimes, so they live together when she's not in season). But most of our stallions stayed over there, where Derek had his house. Conquistador, in all his golden-coated glory, decided to kick down a fence during round-pen work, and ran all over the facility, and since Annika was in school, it was up to me and Derek to catch him and the other two studs that were accidentally freed. I got back by lunch, to discover my mustang a bit less muddy and enjoying himself- gasp!

He was pawing and bobbing his head in the water of his trough, so most of the dried dirt had either flaked or washed off, except for some streaky patches on his blue coat. More and more of his coat and face have been exposed, and I can't wait until I get the full view. He has a beautiful blue coat, with dark points and a face that looks like seafoam on top of a wave. Now I have a thousand more name ideas circulating in my mind. Most importantly, I have an idea of some methods and games to play with him. He likes water! There's so much we can do with that.

I grinned, shaking my head as I retrieved the hose and brought it over, to refill the trough, since much of the water had been sloshed over the sides. He dashed away from me and the trough at first, but seemed intrigued by the stream of water spraying into the trough. He followed me and the hose with his eyes, before cautiously moving forward, sticking his white-flecked face into the stream of water, closing his eyes at the impact of cool water.

He looked like a giant version of some of the barn dogs, cooling off during a hot day. I stifled a laugh, but he still jerked back his head to stare at me. He didn't dash away though, and waited until I was still again, before returning to the water. I waited for a few hours, spending time hanging around him, thinking quietly to myself about the opportunity for actual contact...maybe just one more night's sleep away.

No... too violent for him.

OOC Notes: Still a day behind! Busy schedules bring me down! I'm going to be chugging away to hopefully catch up tomorrow... in between lunch with a friend and rehearsal! Argh, schedules.
