It was my 18th birthday, the day I became a true Kitsuneko. My mother had been the one to gently whisper the command into her ear.
"What is it mother? I do hope you didn't go over the top..." I worried. My family never had any luxuries, and when my parents would surprise mr with gifts, they'd always cost father more than a month's hard work for a more powerful Kitsuneko.
"Don't worry Basa. These weren't all that hard to get. In fact, I made them myself." Mother declared as Father lifted his paws from my eyes. There, my mother held the most amazing gift I could have ever wished for.
A pair of black fishnet fingerless gloves. I cried out in happiness as I hugged my mother and father. "Thank you so much, they're amazing!" I said, gently taking them and running a paw pad along the softness of the cheap cotton Mother had used to make them. I slipped them on and turned in front of my parents.
"What do you think?" I asked happily, right before a jealous gasp came from nearby.
My fraternal twin sister had invited over a friend, who happened to be the daughter of a very powerful Kitsuneko.
"Where did you get those?! I simply
MUST have them!" She asked, her eyes narrowing.
"My mother made them for me..." I replied warily, not liking where this was going.
"Then hand them over!"
"But they're mine!"
"I'll have my father come over here and take your father away to work for him forever!"
"Try it and see what happens to that pretty little face of yours!"
My father interrupted. "I'm sorry, but they're her 18th birthday gift. You cannot have them."
Miss princess smirked, and trotted off with my sister, who had her ears flattened and her head bowed.
Then next morning, a group of Kitsunekos came to take away my Father.
