      Irish Draughts are a popular choice for crossbreeding, used to produce Irish Sport horses. Due to the calm good sense of the breed the Irish Draught gelding are a popular mount for police forces in Britain and Ireland!

Fact about Irish Wolfhounds:
      The breed is believed to have been brought to Ireland as early as 7000 BC! These dogs are mentioned, as cú (variously translated as hound, Irish hound, war dog, wolf dog, etc.) in Irish laws and in Irish literature which dates from the 5th century or, in the case of the Sagas, from the old Irish period - AD 600-900. The word "Cu" often became an added respected prefix on the names of warriors as well as kings denoting that they were worthy of the respect and loyalty of a Cu.

Galway seems to suit this young fellow, as it is a place in Ireland.

Cant be any strong whole colour, with grays being prevalent. White legs, above the knees or hocks, not desirable; Spotted/pinto/paint marked horses not permissible.

I do believe that one year, it was an Irish Wolfhound dog that had the longest tail of a dog in the world! If I am correct, that is. I remember it being in my National Geographic Magazine.

Irish Draughts have been in existence in Ireland for centuries even though the breed of horse was almost extinct or lost during times of famine and poverty. Irish Draughts again were almost lost after World War II when thousands of animals were shipped overseas to feed starving countries.

The Irish Draught is neither as massive nor as heavily feathered as its name implies and has movement that is smooth and free, Not rough and Heavy.

Niall ( Although it ay sound like he's names after the one Direction singer, The name Niall is actually an ancient irish name associated with the 5th Century King. The name "Niall" is in the top 100 names in Ireland.)

Irish Wolfhound

The Irish wolfhound is one of the tallest dog breeds, one of the tallest being as tall as a small pony!

Fact about Irish Draughts:
The breed originated from the Irish Hobby,a small ambling horse with many similarities to the primitive Garrano and Sorraia horses of Northern Spain and Portugal. War horses brought to Ireland during the Anglo-Norman invasions were bred with this local stock and later, additional Iberian blood was incorporated as Spanish horses from the shipwrecked Armada found their way ashore near Cork and the South West of Ireland.
