Tvetyals are a unique species of dragon-like mammals, the closest modern animal approximation being a big canine with the behavior of a puffin. They come in a large variety of sizes, with the smallest about the size of a medium dog and the largest closer to the size of horses. Tvetyals are pack animals, and typically live in family units called bevies, which range in population from 7 to up to 40. Tvetyals can sport many different traits, but the most prominent is the heterochromic eyes that all Tvets possess. Some traits are more rare than others, and on ocassion, it is said that a Tvetyal may even be born with wings. Notably, Tvetyals are separated into two primary groups: Wild and Domestic. As the names may suggest, Wild Tvets are generally not receptive to humans and cannot be ridden. With enough work, a Wild Tvetyal can become Domestic, at which point they can be lifelong companions.

The Shakespearean character Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream is King of the Fairies, but the name, with its strong 'O' beginning, projects a far more virile image than that.

Oberon was also seen as a fairy king in old German legend, in French heroic song, a Ben Jonson masque, and several operas. And an Oberon appeared in Disney's animated film "Gargoyles."

Personality

Oberon is extremely loyal to those he considers friends, and will defend the ones he cares for with his life. Oberon exudes a confidence and contentment, and is very sure of all actions and decisions he makes. Intelligent and very good at summing up ones personality (before you'd think he even got a chance to know you) Oberon concludes whether you are a person/creature to trust and confide in. Oberon has a soft spot for the sweet and innocent... Even tho he wouldn't admit... Once he was found with a small child clinging to his mane fast asleep, the child had gotten away from her mother at the Center. Oberon has a love for sarcasm and jokes, and will appreciate the class clown type characters, although he's not one for pulling pranks regularly himself, he has done a few in the past. This user trying out for me? I believe she calls herself "CeruleanRush"? Quite the odd name, I know. Anyways, she's not what you're here to see, that's me. The name's Tamu Massif! Tamu or just plain Tam works fine, though I'm fine with anything you come up with. Want to call me something stupid, like, well, "Stupid"? Go for it, my actual name will still be my actual name, no matter what you refer to me by. Meaning? Tamu Massif is the largest volcano on Earth, only 25% smaller than Olympus Mons on Mars! The most interesting fact about this volcano is that it is completely underwater, and incredibly mind boggling. If you were to stand on its slope, you wouldn't be able to tell what direction was downhill due to its sheer size. I recieved his name due to the dull blues that make up my coloration, painted with shades that seem to be just as intriguing as the volcano itself. To put it simply, I remind many of the ocean's less explored areas, as Tamu Massif was only recently discovered due to the fact that it sits on thin oceanic crust that can't support its own weight. My mane, being a deep fiery red, reminds many of the lava that erupted for over a million years during the early Cretaceous period. Lastly, if you didn't already know, I'm male.

Well, you're still here, so I suppose I can tell you a bit more about me...
When I was born years ago, Tamu Massif hadn't even been discovered. My parents had actually named me "Tam", and had regretted it ever since. Who named their male child "Tam"? To this day, I don't mind it much, but back then I did. My name was all I had, and it wasn't the greatest either. So, as soon as news spread of the discovery of the volcano, my parents sprung upon the chance to say that they had "known about the volcano all along" and had been "waiting to announce to this day that my full name was Tamu Massif." It was a sad excuse, and everyone knew it was a lie, but nobody really cared all that much to say anything. Except for me. I was overjoyed with my new name, wanting nothing more than to say it over and over and over as I started down at my reflection in a nearby pond. I had never actually been to the ocean; it was fairly far away, and my family wasn't one of travelers. Tamu Massif became my new fantasy. Every day as a child, I would imagine myself diving down to explore it, finding new friends and riches along the way that I would always share with my family upon every return from my imagination. They considered it a normal thing for Tvetyals my age to do, but what they didn't know was that my imagination was replacing the friends I had used to play with. I no longer ran to them every day to see what game we were going to play. My fake adventures were much more fun to me, and over time, they had all grown up and I was still spending my days sitting by the pond.

Adulthood pretty much ran into me at full speed.
It was then that I looked around me to see everyone that I had ever known with full families of their own. They had all moved on, and yet here I was, pretending that my life was suddenly perfect because my name had some extra letters. I stood up from the pond, opened my eyes, and left to rejoin my species once more.

I haven't been back to Tamu Massif since.

Meaning: This name, of English and German origin, means "from the hills." Quite simply, it was derived from a term describing someone who lived near a hilltop or mountain peak.
Reasoning: I chose this name because Tvetyals, and this guy in particular, remind me of stormy coastal seas. I instantly thought of how the dark clouds of a stormy sky sometimes hug close to the top of a mountain and lightning lights up the sky around these cliffs. The warm colors of the fur running along his spine remind me of lightning against the dull blues of a stormy night. If I won this guy he would live inside the base of a lighthouse with his rider.
